I learned in a Latin Studies class (with a chill white dude professor) that when the Europeans first saw Aztec cities they were stunned by the grid. The Aztecs had city planning and that there was no rational lay out to European cities at the time. No organization.

When the Spanish first arrived in Tenochtitlan (now downtown mexico city) they thought they were dreaming. They had arrived from incredibly unsanitary medieval Europe to a city five times the size of that century’s london with a working sewage system, artificial “floating gardens” (chinampas), a grid system, and aqueducts providing fresh water. Which wasn’t even for drinking! Water from the aqueducts was used for washing and bathing- they preferred using nearby mountain springs for drinking. Hygiene was a huge part if their culture, most people bathed twice a day while the king bathed at least four times a day. Located on an island in the middle of a lake, they used advanced causeways to allow access to the mainland that could be cut off to let canoes through or to defend the city. The Spanish saw their buildings and towers and thought they were rising out of the water. The city was one of the most advanced societies at the time.

Anyone who thinks that Native Americans were the savages instead of the filthy, disease ridden colonizers who appeared on their land is a damn fool.

They’ve also recently discovered a lost Native American city in Kansas called Etzanoa It rivals the size of Cahokia, which was very large as well.

1. Your parents mean the most; listen to them.

2. Make time for the outdoors (physical activities)

3. Finish up school as fast as possible; time is money

4. Focus on the little details in everything you do 

5. Don’t get strung up on relationships; Dating is cool but.. 

6. Important things take time; don’t give up when things get tough in life

7. Learn proper money management. Don’t spend money on unnecessary things

8. Eat more vegetables

9. Ultimately, live for yourself

10. Don’t pop your pimples!!! Avoid future pain

11. When it comes to occupation or field of study in the future, do what you want to do and not what your parents want

12. Talk to parents more 

13. Don’t fuck around too hard...draw the line somewhere

14. Develop study skills! Life isn’t a breeze like high school is

15. DO NOT SMOKE CIGARETTES. NEVER START!!!

16. Slow down rate of speech, especially when you’re nervous!!

17. Start saving for your future!!!

18. Go outside your comfort zone because there’s a lot you can learn outside it

19. Network more

20. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it; your pride is not more important than your success

21. Don’t let things get pent up... Find healthy ways to release stress. Don’t follow Dad in that regard

22. Be patient with decision making; don’t rush into something

1. Take time out of your day to do something you love, even if its meaningless, immature, silly. 

2. Family deserves all the love, respect, support, and attention in the world. Moreso than what you owe yourself

3. Acknowledge your flaws. Acknowledge your shortcomings. Make the conscious effort to see yourself for who you truly are

4. Change yourself everyday; be your own role model. Be your ideal person

5. Be smart in who you give your heart to (friends, relationships, etc)... People will take it, use it, spit it out, and demand more. You’ll never get that piece back.

6. There is a lesson in every good and bad thing that happens. Find it and learn from it. 

7. You can not help others who do not want to help themselves

8. Be as strong as people think you are. Be as strong as you want to be seen. 

9. Understand both sides of everything. Understand, acknowledge, and accept. Then can you take a responsible course of action/response

10. Life is going to be hard. But you will come out more resilient than you know. You will be the support people will look to

11. Don’t give up. If you want it, fight for it. Because you probably can do it, and do it well

12. Keep your ego in check. Shut your mouth. If what you did was that great, then people will acknowledge it.. don’t go looking for it

13. Money comes and goes... but happiness is irreplaceable. Spend the money. 

14. Photographs are more important than you know. They are your only link back to the past and the memories you have. Take as many as you can, but don’t let it detract from the moment

15. These are the golden years... Today will be the oldest and the youngest you will be at this point in time. So make use of this time. Make the memories you want to tell

16.  Friends are hard. You’re hard to understand and like. It’s a 2-way street but it’s okay... keep trying

17. You have a lot of TRUE and HONEST friends... you just overlook them. appreciate them. build on them. don’t ditch them for the next person

18. Love is fickle. Its a little stronger and little weaker everyday, but it’s still there. It never disappears, it’s just differnet

19. Never lower your standards. 

20. Appreciate your culture. Appreciate your language. Learn and immerse yourself in it because you are the generation that could possibly lose it all

21. Learn about your parents... who are they. What were they like? what’s their story? Talk to them about how they are now

22. Everyone you meet has a purpose in your life. Everyone you meet has something to teach you/something for you to gain from. Be thankful and open to them, and never regret them
