kid had a great week
happy 77 years to the best week of this kid's life
btw while people continue to fight the system don't forget about Undue Medical Debt (formerly RIP Medical Debt), a charity that buys and forgives medical debt. on average a donation of $10 will forgive $1,000 of medical debt.
I'm fairly confident that this is now the one original post I've made that has gotten the most notes, and I honestly couldn't be happier. the more attention we give this, the higher the chances that someone will see this and donate. medical debt is both one of the most crushing things a person can deal with and one of the stupidest things humanity has invented. and if you live in the US, I have no doubt that you've had to deal with medical debt in your life, either for yourself or a loved one. even a small donation can do so much good, and now is the time of year when we are encouraged to think of others.

this is a masterclass in buildup and payoff. hollywood could never.
Happy Labor Day. Today I learned about probably the first strike to happen IN SPACE.
āWe would never work 16 hours a day for 84 straight days on the ground, and we should not be expected to do it here in space.āĀ

Shut up. I'm going to stop you there. You're wrong. If the words coming out of your mouth are not "Hunchback of Notre Dame" you're just going to look stupid. You got the choir hitting every goddamn note that humans can produce. You got chanting in Latin. The fucking bells. The full orchestra going as if Alan Menken would systematically come after their families if they didn't play harder. If those 15th century bitches in the film could actually hear the score playing in the background they'd all shit themselves and be on their knees venerating god. Frozen fucking who
they used to make smackable technology. you used to be able to hit your tv when it didn't work good.
when I was a kid I had an old tv in my room that would always turn to unwatchable static in the middle of shows but one night my sister and I were watching Naruto & every time Kakashi was on-screen the static cleared so we were like āhahaha the tv looooves Kakashi.ā
I had a Kakashi bookmark so we held it up against the screen as a joke but the static actually cleared up. Mystified, we tried different bookmarks and objects with the same plastic material but nothing else worked, only the Kakashi bookmark.
We ended up taping it to the corner of the screen and it stayed there for 11 years until we moved out. When I was older people would be like ācan you move the bookmark off the screenā bc it did sort of block a bit of the view but I would demonstrate the static issue and everyone was always just like āhuh. what the hell?? wellā¦alright.ā
No explanation, but thanks Kakashi.
I had a similar tv! It was a tv with a built in dvd and vcr because it was in college and Iām apparently old now. But! The dvd player never wanted to play- unless it was Chicago (2002). First, we would put that dvd in, let it start, and then swap it for the movie we really wanted to watch. It got to the point where we would put in the dvd we wanted and sing āhe had it coming!!!ā At the screen at volume. Fucking worked *every time*
Bizarre.
I miss when technology had real personality, instead of fake ones designed to generate lies and nonsense and spy on you.
I dunno man. I found out today that a subway sandwich is $14 now. A shitty subway footlong sandwich that isn't actually 12 inches long and is occasionally made with expired ingredients and was never a great option to start with. I ate those in high school because I was broke and at the mall a lot.
There are poke bowls in my city from a local place for $16. Super fresh fish and veg, warm rice, more than I can eat in one sitting, for the price of a sandwich and a drink at america's most mid-tier sandwich shop.
Someone in another post said (paraphrased) you used to be able to get something mediocre for cheap, but now the mediocre things cost as much as the nice things so why would you?
This is me when I realized I could get a proper bowl of curry from the fancy indian food place for basically the same price as a fuckin McDonald's hamburger meal these days
I heard an ad the other day for a "fantastic deal! Four dollar four inch subway snack sandwich!" And like. I'm sure that would seem like a much better deal I'd I wasn't one of the ones who grew up with obnoxious "five dollar foot long subway sandwich" ads.
A dollar an inch of sandwich. When it used to be 2.4 inches. 240% markup is GOOD? Fucking bite me
Yeah with fast food having delusions of grandeur these days it's really made me appreciate the non-chain food places in my area. The other day I went to the local Hawaiian BBQ place and discovered that they have teriyaki chicken AND Beef BBQ musubi for 3.99. and they come in pairs. PAIRS.
I KNOW.
So I immediately bought an order of each and had 4 delicious musubi and a drink for less than a combo at Burger King.
So yeah, show em we don't need their shit sandwiches.
There's some hilarious irony in that by creating an ad campaign so incredibly catchy and memorable that it entered public consciousness (the dream of any marketing team), Subway ensured everyone of a certain age range would view them as the poster child of fast-food price gouging.
Me: dang I hate how my voice cracks on the chorus of Pink Pony Club but the rest of the song is so good.

Also, like, get this. The people who go through college may go on to pay proportionally higher taxes and enable a more productive economy in ways that benefit people who didn't go to college. And will then also pay for taxes for things they don't directly benefit from.
thank you for following me I have nothing to offer
it is so important that you are a little bit ugly. please get comfortable with having unplucked eyebrows and nonexistent jawlines and wrinkles. let your blue hair grow out into an uneven pale green and your clothes be old and mend them and modify them until theyāre unique to you. wear lipstick which doesnt compliment your skintone and mismatched outfits which went out of fashion 5 years ago. be a little bit too loud and a little bit too passionate and as weird as you can be because oh my god there is nothing more disturbing to me than perfection. beauty is manufactured and sold to us and you need to realise that you are a fucking animal to live a joyful life I am so serious. you cant obsess over aesthetics forever please just live messily and make your body your home however you please.
if you dont do it for you, do it for all the teenagers who will see u in the street and know that they are not obligated to be attractive
if you were getting married, would you change your surname?
yes
maybe, it depends whose surname is cooler
I'd double barrel/combine our surnames
no
no and I'd want/expect my partner to take my name
doesn't have to be a definitive or strongly held opinion, just which option seems preferable currently. also sorry for neglecting the people already married lol in that case obviously just pick what you did!
