Hi rarepair lovers!! I am so so so excited to announce that I have officially reached a conclusion about the shape of the Red Dead rarepair events! Yeah, events! With an S!
Results on the interest form were split between a low-investment event and a more rigid one, so I have decided to run two forms in 2027, just to try them out and see what runs smoother/ connects more with y'all!
If running two events ends up sailing smoothly, maybe I will keep it up beyond just one round, but I will likely consolidate to one for future rounds, based on how these go!

Event 1→ Red Dead Rarepair Week!
Prompts Revealed, Creation Period Begins: December 2026 (specific date TBA)
Posting: February 15-21, 2027
This will work as any other fandom week: seven days long, with a few short/open-ended prompts set for each day (+ a make-up/ free day)!
I will release prompts ~8 weeks before the start of the week, to give everyone ample time to create! There is no expectation or requirement to include every given prompt; take, disregard, or interpret them as your inspiration leads you!
General idea is that it’s very open and relaxed, and meant to kind of test out the event as an actual working thing! There will be no max or min word count for fic, nor any minimum requirement for any other mediums! You may create for as many or as few days as you feel inspired by, and there is no formal signup required to participate! If you want to make more than one work for one day, feel free!
Why February 15-21? For one, I think it gives a bit of time for people who sign up for Secret Santas/Holiday Exchanges to shift gear. For two, it’s my birthday week lol :)

Event 2→ Red Dead Rarepair Fanworks Exchange!
DATES TBD, below are rough estimates, and are liable to change:
Signups: Mid-Late Spring 2027
Assignments Out: Summer 2027
Assignments Due: August 2027
In a fandom exchange, participants offer a set of likes/dislikes/prompts, and are assigned another participant to create a fanwork for! In turn, they are assigned to another participant, and will receive a gift work based on their stated likes! During the event, all work is anonymous, and creators are revealed shortly after the initial work reveals!
This will be a more structured event, with a signup aspect and more rigid requirements. It will be hosted on AO3, using the collection and gifting features, so please do make sure that you have an account if you are interested (or reach out to me and we can discuss)!
Rules, Guidelines, and Further Info will be released closer to event signups, after the Rarepair Week has ended.
Note: For the sake of matchability, I will be asking that participants request and offer more than one rarepair (likely 3+)! This event won’t run until mid-2027, so you have plenty of time to brainstorm XD

Have you fallen for a ship with 0 fics? Perhaps you even thought about writing it but weren't sure there'd be a point. Why not join Launch the Ship—a multifandom challenge to write the first fic for a ship! It provides a friendly little community during what can often be a lonely voyage.
All you need to do is choose a ship with 0 fics, and complete a fic for it before the deadline, July 20th. Everything else is optional, though there are opportunities to share ideas and check out each other's work.
Sign-ups are now open and will be until the deadline (July 20th, 23:55 UTC). Fics will be revealed July 21st, 00:01 UTC.

I have a few housekeeping notes to cover before I share the form results:
1) I will be back on here some time in June with a solid decision about the shape of the event, and possibly a provisional ruleset and very broad timeline as per a schedule!
2) If you have any comments/input now that the form is closed, please so not hesitate to reach out to me via email or DM! You can find my info in the Pinned Post on my Tumblr.
3) Quick reminder on what I'm defining as a rarepair for this event:
A Rarepair is any ship between 2+ canonical characters from the Red Dead Redemption duology, with less than 1,000 works attributed to the ship on AO3. This definition excludes:
- Original Character, Self-Insert, & Reader POV ships
- Arthur Morgan/Charles Smith
- Arthur Morgan/John Marston
- Dutch Van der Linde/ Hosea Matthews
- John Marston/Abigail Roberts Marston
I just wanted to clarify that because I got a response on the form that cited Charthur as a rarepair they liked, and I don't want anybody to be confused about the parameters I'm setting here. Charthur is a wonderful ship, but it is not a rarepair!
I have these exclusions in place to keep up the spirit of an event that celebrates ships that don't get as much attention as the bigger ones! I am happy to answer questions on this topic.
Now, on to the Interest Form Results! (Below cut)
Over the last few months, the Interest Form received 32 responses! Thank you all so much!
100% of responders expressed interest in an RDR rarepair event!
Interest in specific kind of event was pretty split!
Overall, 'Event Week' got the most interest (25 votes), but was very closely followed by 'Fanworks Exchange' (24 votes) and 'Big Bang' (23 votes). All very different forms of events, which I will have to consider further! I am currently not leaning in one direction more than the other, so if anybody has any input they would like to share with me on this topic, I would be happy to hear it! (My contacts are in the pinned post, and you can see my previous ideas on the matter in the previous IF update).
Possible Due Date ranged largely towards the end of summer/early fall, with the majority responses being 'Don't Care/Any Month Works' (16 votes) and 'August' (13 votes)! Note taken: winter is already loaded up with Secret Santas/Holiday Exchanges!
Preferred Min Word Count Range was interesting to me!
Majority favored the 1-5k range (just over 50%), with 6.5% favoring any possible WC range and 9.7% favoring no WC min! This was a tetchy stat for me, because in the event of a big bang, the writing period would be longer than my stated 2 month range, so would probably allow for a higher WC minimum range. But I definitely have a better idea of the scale of writing for the event!
Resoundingly, people stated interest in the event being hosted/ updated/ etc primarily through Tumblr, but there were 9 in favor of a Discord. I have a Dreamwidth and email set up already (see pinned post), but Discord is something I am a bit more hesitant to be in control of. I will certainly give it some thought, because I do love the community aspect of Discord, but also am wary of having to mediate a communal space like that. Needless to say, Tumblr will be the main channel of updates for the event, and I will likely keep the DW up-to-date as well and put out emails, if there is a signup aspect involved.
No new ships to report as-per the for-fun question! But please, do feel free to come yap with me about any of your rarepairs at any time!

Hello Friends and Fellow Fans! I've had an idea for a rarepair-centric Red Dead event churning around for a while, since I love rarepairs a lot and always love to see more fannish works made for them! I have finally put together an interest form, to see if y'all would like to participate!
This form will be open for the next few months, and an event would start next year most likely, so I have time to really get it streamlined and organized. With that in mind I would love to hear your thoughts!
On the form, I have specified what I am defining as a 'rarepair' for this event, and have a broad range of questions and textboxes for other input. You may edit your responses, and your email info will not be saved (the form is totally anonymous on my end).

I will have make a wrap-up post by May 20th (will be traveling & busy this week), and hopefully will have some provisional Event Info ready some time in June!
So... I missed last month's update post (my bad), so here's a little catch-up update post, ft. some reminders, updates, and numbers!
1) Most importantly, the Interest Form will close at 11:59 pm (CDT) on May 15th!! So if you have not filled it out yet, or were thinking about sharing the link around, now is the time to do so!
2) Next, I have a quick clarification, because a question rose up in the form that made me think. Rarepairs, in an open-world game with hundreds of npcs can very understandably and easily veer towards OC territory. For the purposes of this event, a Rarepair is a ship with less than 1,000 works on AO3, where both/all members either a) physically appear in the game (from major npcs like Abigail or Hosea, all the way to like Saint Denis Busker or Valentine Deluxe Bath Girl), or b) are mentioned as existing in the canon (e.g. Princess Isabeau Zinsmeister or John's Daughter). They don't need to be prominent at all, but they must be canon characters!
3) I have a neat little bit of the interest form responses to share: the votes for what kind of event people want is kind of an even split on all sides! So, this aspect of the event is still in limbo, but I am brainstorming how I want to tackle it! My current idea is possibly hosting two events throughout the calendar year: one prompt-based with a looser structure and a lower wordcount min (like a kink/prompt meme or a daily prompt week), and one an exchange or bang-style collaborative event, with a higher wordcount min and more rigid structure. Also considering alternating types of events between rounds.
Thoughts? Nothing is off the table yet!

To quote the Event's Dreamwidth:
Participants will write, and receive, a complete fic of at least 1000 words focusing on in-universe correspondence written by a requested character, either intended for, about, or read by another requested character. At least 500 words must be in a requested epistolary format.
The letters do not actually need to be unsent.
Correspondence includes: letters, emails, voicemail transcripts, journals, publications, and other public/private written communications.

Hi all! I am happy to announce that The Interest Form for a potential Red Dead Redemption Rarepair Event has officially been live for one month!
In light of this arbitrary milestone, I thought I would share with you all a little post about all of the wonderful responses I've received so far, because there's been quite a bit more hum-drum about it than I had truly anticipated!
Three Small Updates:
I think I am going to keep this form open until May 1, with a monthly update like this on the first of April and May to keep everyone in the loop! That way, there is enough time for everyone who may reasonably see this form to get their two cents in, but a limit so I'm not just keeping it open indefinitely instead of actually formulating the event itself lol.

I am definitely going to be looking into a few of these!!!! There's a few that I recognize and expected like Bill/Kieran, John/Charles, Kierthur, VanderMorgan, or Arthur/Albert, but honestly a lot of these were new to me, or ships I had only previously looked up out of curiosity (like my current fave Sadie/Mary).
I loved to see an OT3 in there, and an unnamed NPC with the Saint Denis Police Chief! And of course, I have to shout out the five femslash responses on Femslash Febraury! So much Molly love here, it's a beautiful thing to see ✨
Also love seeing some RDR1 represented in here with John/Bonnie and (implicitly I guess) Jack/Francis, and some pre-canon ships with Hosea/Bessie and Arthur/Annabelle! Exploring the great potential for ships in this fandom is what I'm all about!
A whole lot of Arthur ships, but I guess that makes sense XD

Candy Hearts is a fanworks exchange which hosts work reveals on Valentine's Day! Multi-fandom, and open to fic, art, and podfic! There are a ton of fandoms and pairs nominated, and lots of fun signups already! (I am not a mod, just spreading the word <3)
