Fun little math trick I find really helpful: the ratio of a mile to a kilometer is within 1% of the Golden Ratio. That means that if you have a good memory for Fibonacci numbers (1 2 3 5 8 13 21 34 55 89) you can convert pretty accurately by taking consecutive Fibonacci numbers.
For example, 89 kilometers is really close to 55 miles (55.3). Or, say you need to convert 26 miles to kilometers: 26 can be written as 21 plus 5, so taking the next Fibonacci number up gives 34 and 8, meaning it should be around 42 kilometers. Sure enough, it's 41.8 km!

Which. Not as many people probably know the Lucas numbers. But they nonetheless fill gaps in the Fibbonacci number sequence. Like 7! I saw a post that said 7 miles and I was like "ah fuck" and it's 11 km! (Which is the next Lucas number).
Absolutely correct! This will work with any Fibonacci-Lucas sequence, which is to say, anything defined by the same recursion sequence F(n)=F(n-1)+F(n-2). Fibonacci starts 0,1,... and Lucas starts 2,1,...
However, there's kind of a diminishing returns there, because if your starting numbers are too big you will need to go pretty far out in order to converge to the golden ratio. But yeah, the Lucas numbers fill the gaps in the Fibonacci sequence really well!
I was gunna put this in the tags but itās a lot. When i first started going through the process of getting a diagnosis, i was labelled with ODD. I immediately took issue with this, it seemed like an unfair diagnosis based entirely on the session the psychiatrist had with my parents (which mostly consisted of āmy child is being really difficult on purposeā), and Hoo Boy when i tell you ODD immediately strips you of your ability to call out anyone on anything, that would be an understatement. I couldnāt even disagree or bring up my concerns about the validity of MY OWN DIAGNOSIS without it being labelled as oppositional defiance. Whenever i displayed any negative emotion the ātreatmentsā did so much more harm than good. When you label someone as ādefiantā (ugh), when that word is put on their medical record, that person is never allowed to complain about anything again. Knowing that POC are disproportionately affected with this diagnosis makes me feel sick, i can only imagine whatās being swept under the rug as someone just being ādefiant to authorityā, not even just in the medical field but as justification for police brutality and mass incarceration. When i say medical racism kills people, this is what i mean.
Incredible when I turn on Al Jazeera they'll inform me that almost 800 Iranians have been killed by strikes and show me footage of bombed residential buildings and medics removing rubble. And then it'll show me the bombing of Lebanon and the evacuations that have left people sleeping in the street.
And then ill switch to CNN and it'll be some fuckass debate on the GOP, or some fucking former fbi stooge telling me that the only targets are "irgc" targets and that iran is the greatest threat to peace to the world. But yeah american news is the most "reliable" and "unbiased" out there according to people on here
