this would all land harder and mean a whole lot more if gww hadn't consistently treated Harley like garbage outside of some nice words here and there. like she has moments where she seems to remember the character she's writing "she's the only human who matters" but the outlandish actions she writes Ivy making never align with those messages.

and don't get me wrong, I have little doubt that harlivy won't make up by the end of it all, but tbh given Kalan and gww's lack of ability to write these emotional / romantic aspects of their comics even just adequately, it won't feel earned. nothing that happened is going to be handled in a way that's satisfactory, this won't have given Harley trauma or triggered Joker flashbacks, it won't have made Ivy take a good look at herself to see how she's fallen, it'll be brushed under the rug exactly like the cheating shit was in #24.

Ivy will apologize, she'll say a bit of poetic words to Harley, they'll kiss, and Janet will stand off to the side going "aw, that's so beautiful you guys" and then it'll move the fuck on like it barely mattered.

The problem with some fandom bubbles is that they start believing the whole world thinks the same way they do. Twitter has shown countless times that an opinion that seems overwhelmingly popular on the platform can be completely irrelevant to the general audience. The same applies to Tumblr, which is an even smaller platform and an even less reliable gauge of broader public opinion. Seeing people claim that Catwoman is unpopular only highlights how disconnected some online communities can become from the broader market and public perception. And in Catwoman's case, I can guarantee that perception does not reflect the general audience. Tumblr is heavily centered around fanfiction, fan art, and fan-created reinterpretations. More often than not, people become attached to a version of a character shaped by the community itself, one that is often very different from, or even incompatible with, the official characterization. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but it does create a very specific view of characters that doesn't necessarily match how they are perceived by the wider public.

The idea that Catwoman was unpopular just doesn't match what was actually happening at the time. Batman and Catwoman's wedding was such a massive storyline that it was covered by mainstream media, with The New York Times even spoiling the ending before the issue was released. Fans were furious, Tom King received death threats, and the entire fandom argued about it for months. If Dan DiDio was considering killing off Selina, it wasn't because she was unpopular. If anything, it was the opposite. She had become so important to Batman's world that killing her would've been the easiest way to restore Bruce's traditional status quo.

I agree with you, twitter and tumblr have the same problem, the fandoms on there are such small places, that when you hear an opinion you might think it’s much more popular than it actually is, the thing is i don’t think you can actually trust opinions online in general but especially in a place like tumblr, people genuinely think tumblr is dead because not a lot of people use it as of late compared to other socials, i also think most fans who express their dislike for selina haven’t actually read her material so their opinion is irrelevant, and you’re right the community creates its own version of the character, and a lot of fans that disagree with the opinions shared about selina from selina fans, genuinely have their own messed up version of her that doesn’t exist outside of their own bubble like her being purely sexual and not caring abt anyone but herself.

Tbh i was lowkey so young at that time and i didn’t really interact with many dc fans, i just read the stuff that i liked so i didn’t know all of that was happening but i always thought their wedding was popular, i mean dc literally designing multiple dresses for selina i think just proves how big of a deal even dc thinks their wedding was. Tbh i don’t think dc can kill off selina now, she is already planned to be in the new gotham event though even if they did, i definitely do not think it would be permanent.
