One more thing and then I'll stop flooding your askbox, but, would it be alright if I wrote a little AU stuff for ILM where Lisa gets to make it out too? The way you wrote her scenes was so good and heart-wrenching and I think it was the best way to go, narratively, but I am softe and want her and Sally to be together again (Lisa is the "woman with nice hair" that Sally remembers, right? Or was that the corpse they found in the lab?) BUT SO, would it be ok if I wrote that?
Hey, you’re good! I love asks--I’ve just been in deep writing mode all day haha. And totally! Go for it. I really love Lisa, and I think it was the right choice too, but I also am a big softie and am sad about it. Lisa was actually the only determinate character in the entire fic, start to finish. I had outlines both for her dying in Going Home and Season’s End, and living. Is she had made it out of the realm, she’s so emaciated she likely would have died instantly once back in reality, without the Entity to keep her alive, but it’s not impossible to stay alive for a little at that level of decay and starvation, which is harrowing and I wish I didn’t know and wish no one had ever witnessed/lived and thus documented, and while it’s likely even if she did, she would succumb to irreversible damage to her organs in a couple years, that’s far from a done-deal, and it’s entirely possible to recover from extreme starvation if you can get treatment before you die, so it’s totally plausible for her to survive if she made it out too. For ILM, I always knew Philip would try to do what she asked, but I wasn’t sure if he’d be able to go through with it, or not be able to pull the trigger at the last second and bandage her arm/stop the bleeding after she passed out. It depended on a lot of stuff--his mental state, his level of knowledge and hope, the likelihood she’d actually get to stay dead, etc, but mostly came down to if he felt sure she would just come back to life because of the Entity’s cruelty regardless, so I just wasn’t sure till I wrote it. If he had stopped the bleeding, depending on mental state and hopelessness levels, he would have either taken her unconscious body with him when he left (no plan at all on his part here here--just too broken at the idea of her waking up there abandoned by him again and unable to do it), or have left her, feeling awful and even more like a monster but willing to be that to someday give her another chance to escape even if he knew it wouldn’t involve him (most optimistic version of Philip here, although that’s not saying much lol), then gone back for her either after failing to hurt Claudette and deciding to tell the truth, or once coming up with a plan, and brought her to camp and asked someone to make sure she’d be in the truck. If you want to work off of any of the official outlined and then cut alternate timelines as a starting point for Lisa gets to live AU, 100% feel free to! I could have gotten a lot of distressing and then very moving mileage out of thought-I-was-dead Lisa waking up at the campfire surrounded by survivors and confused and scared and probably betrayed to be alive, but then dragged into party games and a wedding and getting to eat food. TuT :’-] This hurts me. Haha, but also feel 100% free to not and to do whatever you want/if you already have a plan, to go with that. This was a super long way to say absolutely, go for it--Lisa deserves some happy AU life and some love. : )
Also! You are indeed correct. Lisa was the woman with nice hair, and especially close to Sally during the attempt involving Vigo, Benedict, and Alex. She and Sally were very close, and I am sure a lot would come back to Sally once she saw her again. :’-] I really love them all. This ask makes me both very sad and very happy. Absolutely go off and give Lisa a happy gets-to-live AU. I’d also be super interested in seeing it once you’re done, if you’re comfortable with that! (But if you’re not, that’s totally okay to and absolutely no pressure). I’m very honored you’d like to write AU for my fic. : )
