Sometimes I forget the best thing about writing fanfic is that literally nothing has to be canon. Like. I can make shit up if I feel like it, as long as it makes sense to MY story. Isn't that wonderful?

Does anyone know/can recommend any fic on epilogue/post S5 Will confronting/facing Lonnie after all the chaos and just like.. ripping into him or fighting him, or really just saying how much he doesn't need him in his life anymore.

I sorta feel like, as much as a bum he was, he could have been used in S4 or S5 for something really good in terms of Will accepting himself and realizing he doesn't need the approval of his dad to do so (Does that make any sense?)

This was my favourite thing when writing Sunlight In The Hallway actually, the concept of Will & Chance being a Bonnie & Clyde type of dream team is soo buzzyy.

Especially since it's canon that Will is often jolly about committing crimes or being rebellious, he just doesn't do so out of respect for Joyce. The concept of Chance enabling him and bringing his rebellious side out is so cute

But yeah. I've got a soft spot for the bonnie and clyde/outlaw couple trope and bychance. Like... Is it a federally punishable offense to y'know. Steal an APC and do a spot of vandalism of a government black site?

Also @reflectivestars brought up the idea of like no one knowing about all the ✨crime and delinquency✨ and I love the idea of the actual slow burn being the escalation of rebelliousness and even a sense of personal freedom tbh.

I absolutely love love love bychance breaking the 'Social Law' of a jock character and a nerd character, adding the delinquency to the mix makes it so much better.

I can't really imagine them harming other people, simply for respect for Joyce, but I like the idea of them being in those movie scenes giggling behind a wall at a victim of a small fun prank they pulled.

I think that's why I loved reading 'Sunlight In The Hallway' it was so fun yet mischievous. (Definitely read it when you get the chance)

I also like the idea of them sneaking out during the night and MAYBE robbing a few candy bars and beers from a higher chain store. (They would NEVER rob a local shop, if ykwim)

Will Byers and Alan Turing

Alan Turing helped to win the war against the N*zis in WWII, he was a hero and still he got punished for being a homosexual.

He got chemically castrated, they wanted to punish his identity and desires. He was prevented from experiencing life and love fully.

Will Byers helped to win the war against Vecna/MF (who ironically has been compared to N*zis in the show in S2) he is a hero, he has superpowers and yet the viewers diminish and humiliate him for being gay. The Duffers humiliate the character, almost punishing him for being who he is, prevented him from experiencing romantic love.

Heroes with brilliant minds and abilities and still punished for wanting love and being who they are.

Bychance and tigerwise, Chance is out as queer and just starts to rant about his crush on the cute artistic boy in one of his classes and Jason just staring at him flatly for 5 minutes before screaming "THAT'S MY BABY COUSIN"

He proceeds to interview Chance to see if he is good enough for Will ("Jase, we are literally best frien-" "Shut it, do you do drugs?" "You flipping know I don't!")

Will going to art school but due to everything that happened to him but also the d&d campaigns he paints the most disturbing things in art to the point where people are just like how does a guy like this get the inspiration to draw THAT?

Eventually they meet mike and ask him about it and he’s just like “oh he’s always been like that”

Will using his ability to draw and paint horror and like, creepy disturbing shit is something I LOVE seeing.

Yes! He is a background character since season 4 with jasons group. His full name is Chance Lawson. Before we knew that though, people just made up last names for him. They interact in one scene of season 5 but ships been around since season 4.

Bychance is a great ship tbh. The shippers are generally really chill (even though bylers constantly harass them) and I know everyone's first reaction is "why this bully?" But once you start reading fics, you see that their stories are very well done. The writters are very good at writing up Chance as a good love interest for Will.

Chance in fanfics treats Will very well, exactly what I wanted in the show tbh. He often has religious guilt surrounding his feelings for Will and it's the "redeemed jock" trope kinda. his dynamic with Will is really cute.

If you wanna give it a try, I would recommend anything written by users "racontierrot", "arstoryels" & "twiceasfar" on AO3

Think about 21 year old Will Byers in his last year of university. His funky New York apartment covered with canvas, paints & daily flowers from his longterm boyfriend, who he met at a pride protest freshmen year. His fav breakfast place 2 blocks away where he regularly meets his queer friend group for bagels & syrup eggs. Of his part time illustrator gig at a fantasy publication, where he has the time of his life drawing scenes akin to d&d campaigns. The long days where his hands hurt from working charcoal portraits in the art studio.

His boyfriend picks him with Chinese take out & a kiss, then they sprawl on the house while playing Will's current favourite horror film. Of the happy days when his friends drag him to another queer club for the night. One martini in as he dances to CeCe Peniston's “Finally" with no care in the world because he is so FREE here, surrounded by people that truly understand him. The bad days where he feels his childhood crash back into him and can't help become a sobbing mess his boyfriends comforting arms, a soft voice whispering that he's okay.

Midnights where he still feels like a small skimpy boy, so he crashes Jonathan's place and spends the night talking to his brother about the lastest The Cure album until his heartbeat calms down. Weekends where he misses his family so much, so he drives 3 hours to Montauk and stays with Joyce who still fusses over him growing up too fast and Hopper who grunts indifferent, but doesn't mind because he knows he buys Reeses peices every Monday just so they are stocked up for his visits. Think about Will Byers: older, freer, alive & THRIVING in life
