a regressor, who has the ability to go back to the start of the "scenarios" whenever he dies. currently on his third regression.

     his eyes flickered momentarily down to his phone before the device was immediately tucked back into his pocket.

     he didn’t have time for this.

At least one of them was enjoying the whole situation! It may smell OVERLY sweet, but Oliver was having the time of his life. Maybe, just maybe, he even took a bite off something. The boy was munching down on some flower lollipop as he made his way down a paved road.

"I wonder if there's anyone who wants to help?" He thinks out loud. Honestly, who didn't want to do a quest to help someone, right?

It's in his search for a quest buddy that he spots a rather grumpy man looking at his sword.

"Heeeeey! You're like me!" He jogs over with the biggest smile on his face, "heheh! Cool sword!"

          IF YOO JOONGHYUK WAS A weaker man, he would have sighed at the bright tone of the boy's voice. clad in candy, his sword replaced with crystallized sugar, and stuck in this land of endless sweets, his patience was ribbon-thin. you're like me, the other said with that beaming smile, and a giggle that someone who wasn't yoo joonghyuk might have cooed at.

     the man in question, however, merely scowled.

     turning, he began to walk along the path again, determined to keep walking until he found the dragon that he was promised resided deep within the forest. candy or not, a dragon was a dragon, and yoo joonghyuk was nothing if not someone who slayed the beasts who threatened him.

     he supposed he should have guessed that the boy would follow him.

     ❝ Unless you intend to fight the dragon of this forest, don't bother continuing to follow me. ❞

｢𓆄｣ Whoooa! This guy was more intense than he even originally thought, but, no matter, Hawks found it funny if anything. "Hey, man, it's not that serious." Surely, him chuckling at the man was doing him no favors.

"That's probably like the second nicest thing someone's said about me!" The first would have to be when he was called a moron to his face! Hawks took it all in stride, "So, what do you suppose this buch of idiots do instead of biding our time? I'm sure you've got big ideas and I'd love to hear it!"

     his eye twitched faintly at the laidback attitude the other man was exuding, the laugh coming from his mouth making a spike of irritation flare up through yoo joonghyuk. he wasn't in the mood to entertain some puffed-up fool who clearly didn't value his own life enough to not antagonize others. and he definitely didn't have the patience to answer all of his questions.

     ❝ I don't care what you all decide to do. ❞ this wasn't the star stream; yoo joonghyuk wasn't obligated to solve all their problems here. ❝ Just as long as you stay out of my way. ❞

oh, he didn't look happy with at all. not that yoo joonghyuk has ever had a smile on his face, but still! kim dokja feels the need to run and hide, he can definitively feel the bloodlust from the other man. he has no weapon, just this stupid wooden sword that's useless, and no skills that are available to him. he cannot fight yoo jonghyuuk off with bare strength alone wouldn't be able to fend him off.

he feels himself being shoved against brick, oh so this guy is going to be violent with him huh? "if you grip any tighter on my coat you might tear it!" he actually really like this one, at least spare him that!

"you idiot."

he isn't going to let his guard down, but kim dokja does ease up. "i'm not going to apologize, it would have been pointless if you became the demon king." he had to think about his words carefully, despite yoo joonghyuk's threat, he can be positive that the man would at least try and hear him out.

"my incarnation body was heavily damaged when i was expelled from the scenarios...there was really nothing around and i made a deal with the wenny man." it's not the best explanation, but kim dokja isn't going to even admit why he didn't want yoo joonghyuk to die for him. "then i made it do the 73rd demon realm. does this suffice for you? can you let me go?

if he cares a little, "the egg hatched, i named her biyoo."

          THE PLEAS FELL ON DEAF ears as yoo joonghyuk's muscles tensed further, ready and willing to strangle the other ( it wouldn't be the first time ) for answers if he proved unwilling. kim dokja had always been a slippery bastard, tight-lipped and quick-tongued and doing everything in his power to avoid answering a question directly. it infuriated yoo joonghyuk, and at the moment he regretted every moment he'd let it slide in the past.

     he wouldn't let the other man get away with it this time.

     so it was lucky that he started talking before the regressor tightened his grip even further, even with his careful tone. yoo joonghyuk knew that every word was probably being thought about, and thought over again before leaving kim dokja's mouth. he never said anything without agonizing over it, yoo joonghyuk knew, but at least in this instance it was probably best for the white-coated man.

     a dark, unrelenting gaze bored into kim dokja as he continued to speak, yoo joonghyuk's frown deepening with each sentence. my incarnation body, the other man says, and that gaze flickered down to take in the state of it. he seemed relatively uninjured at the moment, but losing one's body wasn't something easily shaken off. even if kim dokja had done something as reckless as making deals with a wenny man.

     ❝ I should have known you would find some way to wiggle your way out of even that. ❞ a false bravado, hidden by his gruff tone, but kim dokja didn't have to know.

     yoo joonghyuk's grip finally began to loosen, partially satisfied with the explanations provided—if not any less wrathful over the need for them. he could wring kim dokja's neck more later, when they'd talked more about what exactly had gone through his idiot head in that throne room. that is... until his last sentence was thrown at the regressor, almost out of the blue.

     ❝ It hatched? ❞ yoo joonghyuk couldn't hide the surprise in his voice, or the way his eyes widened imperceptibly. ❝ Is she with you? ❞

If she had a nickel for every time she's been chased by a dog in the past, she'd be rich, really. It's not that she's afraid of dogs...it's just something frightening when you're minding your own business and a big dog is running after you! If that dog stood on its hind legs, it would certainly be taller than her (she's overreacting.)

"HAAAA!!!!!! PLEASE!!!" She screams, panic in her voice as she runs down the park. You'd think someone like her wouldn't even be too scared, but here she is...

"Ah!" She wheezes when she spots a guy watching. "Please help me!!" And as she Zips right by him, he's quick enough to grab her by the collar-- "hyuk!"

She brings her legs upward to prevent the dog from getting too smart and jumping to reach.

"But the dog is chasing me..so scary."

          HIS ARM WAS LIFTED A bit higher as the dog barked, a deep rumbling sound punctuated by its wagging tail. its tongued lolled out of its mouth as it stared up at yoo joonghyuk and the girl, big brown eyes pleading for attention. it reminded the regressor a bit of lee gilyoung or shin yoosung staring up at kim dokja with those wide eyes that practically begged him to pat their heads. not that he would ever admit that, to either the kids or their bastard of a father figure.

     ❝ It's just a dog. ❞ yoo joonghyuk's voice was harsh, not bothering to soften it as he chastised the girl. the corners of his mouth were tipped downward, and his eyes were unimpressed as his gaze moved from the girl to the dog and back again. ❝ Face it yourself instead of being a coward. ❞

     his fingers opened as she was dropped unceremoniously back to the ground, the man not caring about whatever squeaking noises she would come up with now. despite his initial actions, it wasn't his responsibility to save her from a hound who only wanted to be pet.

     and he was still right there, anyway.

          ONCE, YOO JOONGHYUK HAD THOUGHT there was no bad way to acquire a sword. it was a sword, after all; a useful tool that was important to gain. and though they varied in quality, a sword was still a sword: it would always be useful, and it was worth it to struggle a bit to obtain it. but now, staring at the jolly rancher monstrosity in his hands, yoo joonghyuk was reconsidering that sentiment. the firelight flickered over its red surface, throwing scintillating sparks of colored light over the caramel armor clad over the regressor's body.

     a separate, equally infuriating problem.

     it was in this foul mood that yoo joonghyuk found the red-haired boy, equally decked in similar-looking armor and brandishing a candied mace. and though he wasn't in the mood to deal with anyone else, it didn't seem like he was going to get much of a choice when the boy opened his mouth to speak.

     just his luck.

     what could only be described as a disgusted look was thrown to the man, dark eyes glowering with distaste. his strange appearance wasn't enough to save him ( if anything, the wings only pissed yoo joonghyuk off more ) from the ire he'd already gained from the regressor, or the way his expression darkened at the casual way he was spoken to. ❝ I don't remember telling you you were allowed to speak to me. ❞

     ❝ If you bunch of idiots want to bide your time here, be my guest. But don't try to drag me into your useless fantasies. ❞

it wasn't home and it wasn't a place that kim dokja wanted to live for the rest of his life. searching in the libraries had been hopeless and it had been incredibly frustrating. the want and need to get back to the demon realm and finish things up. he sighs and gets up from the chair to exit the library. of course this time was absolutely pointless, there is no way the entities that whisked him away.

of course upon exiting the building, he spots a familiar figure. there is no way this is happening to him, right? this is obviously a dream and when he wakes up and everything is actually okay!

fuck, this is the worst timing ever.

"h-hey yoo joonghyuk!" this is so awkward, god he just wants to curl up and hide for the rest of his life. this time, he can't just laugh this away like it was nothing. leaving yoo joonghyuk and the rest to mourn for him, he can't even imagine how the kids are reacting to this. "i suppose you want me to explain myself..."

how do i explain this? by the way, really flattered that you wanted to sacrifice yourself for me, but i don't think my life is really worth it!

he can imagine the fourth wall calling him an idiot, and honestly...kim dokja is feeling like an idiot.

          THERE WAS SOMETHING INFURIATING ABOUT hearing his name from kim dokja's mouth in that moment; it reminded him of the last time he'd heard it from him. 「 let's meet again, yoo joonghyuk. 」 it made the furious feeling overtaking him flare, and before he knew it yoo joonghyuk was moving again, boots striking the earth with unnecessary force as he closed the distance between the two. the urge to throw his sword welled up, to force the bastard to dodge it or die—if he had the breaking the sky sword, he would have. but watching the pathetic excuse for a wooden blade that he possessed now shatter on the bricks behind kim dokja would not satisfy him in the least.

     so he settled with gripping the lapels of that familiar white coat and slamming the subject of his ire to the bricks instead.

     ❝ You idiot. ❞ furious eyes locked with panicked ones as yoo joonghyuk clenched the fabric between his fist with enough force to make the sss-grade fabric creak. his other hand ached to raise, to fold his fingers tight and strike kim dokja somewhere that it would hurt. but he wanted answers more, and a kim dokja that was coughing on the ground was not one that would be able to answer his demands.

     a shake of that idiot's neck before crashing him back into the rough wall behind him would have to satisfy enough for now.

     ❝ Speak quickly, before I decide you're better off dead after all. ❞

          IT WAS THE SENSATION OF liquid soaking into his coat that made yoo joonghyuk stop in his tracks, eyebrow twitching in irritation even as he whirled around—and was immediately met with his second aggravation of the moment. a body collided with his, a forehead knocking into his chest and abruptly stopping. yoo joonghyuk looked down, mouth opening and eyes darkening in preparation for unleashing the fury welling up in him at the woman... until a sharp voice caught his attention instead.

     a man, presumably the one who had knocked into the woman ( and caused her to spill her drink all over yoo joonghyuk's coat ) was yelling, accusing, as if it was her fault. his voice grated on the regressor's ears, the finger pointing too close to his face. his gossamer-thin patience snapped, and within a flash yoo joonghyuk had snatched the man's wrist, grip strong enough to make the other man's bones creak.

     ❝ Get lost. ❞

IT was the best way to describe the intense look he was directing at the storefront before him, the fifth one he’d visited that morning. we don’t carry weapons, he’d been told flat-out by the storekeeper, in an echo of the others yoo joonghyuk had already confronted. if you want weapons, you’ll have the try the marketplace. an infuriating sentence he was sick of hearing, considering he’d yet to find out exactly where this marketplace was. it seemed to be something outside of his grasp, at least for the moment. and he was determined to find out what he had to do to change that.

     so when something ( someone ) bumped into his hip, yoo joonghyuk’s glower was redirected to the new source of his ire. a… child? it made a slight furrow appear in his brow, but the surprise wasn’t enough to knock the irritation from his gaze. even if they did look to be around the same age as lee gilyoung and shin yoosung.

     he stared down silently, waiting for the child to either continue on or say something.

     THIS WAS NOT, AS HE had been led to believe, a weapons store. the racks of high-end clothes spread around yoo joonghyuk spoke of a very different kind of merchandise, with not a single sharp or dangerous item in sight. despite the ambiguous-sounding name ( gang☆star, the sign had proudly declared when he’d come in ), it was clearly a clothing store. he felt irritated fury well up in him at the way he’d been misled, searing the face of the dark-haired man who’d given him the false information to his memory. yoo joonghyuk would deal with him promptly, if he ever saw the man again. that was for certain.

     turning to go, expression dark and stormy, the regressor found himself face-to-face with what appeared to be… an employee? an employee that was, annoyingly, taller than him.

     ❝ You don’t sell what I need here. ❞ yoo joonghyuk cut off what was sure to be a lengthy sales pitch, his sharp toning matching his incensed expression.

          IT WAS THE SOUND OF shouting that made yoo joonghyuk turn his head, dark gaze immediately falling on a scene directly out of a cartoon. one that made even him, unshakeable as he was, frown a bit. a girl was running seemingly as fast as she could, face red and breath puffing raggedly from her mouth, clearly in distress. behind her was a true beast of a canine, its brindled fur dusty and its tongue lolling out of its mouth as it gave chase. it didn’t seem particularly aggressive, not to yoo joonghyuk at least, but he knew what cowards humans were. being chased by anything that looked like that was enough for them to run.

     he didn’t have any reason, really, to interfere. except that her shouting was annoying, especially when it morphed into yells asking specifically him for help. the aggravation was enough that when she passed, his hand was held out to snag onto the back of her coat, deftly lifting her into the air to dangle in front of him by her collar. above the dog’s reach.

     ❝ You’re running for no reason. ❞ his tone was the same one that yoo joonghyuk used to chide one of the children, his expression unimpressed. he ignored the dog that was now swarming around his ankles, small boofs rumbling from its throat as its tail wagged.
