alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
under 18, AI is a net positive
under 18, AI is a net negative
18-29, AI is a net positive
18-29, AI is a net negative
30-45, AI is a net positive
30-45, AI is a net negative
46-60, AI is a net positive
46-60, AI is a net negative
over 60, AI is a net postive
over 60, AI is a net negative
Question 2/3
How often do you visit or interact with museums/archives (whether in person or online)?
Frequently (multiple times per month)
Often (multiple times per year)
Occasionally (a couple times per year)
Rarely (once every couple of years)
Never :(
Question 3/3
If you saw a museum was using AI in exhibits, marketing, research, etc., would you be more or less inclined to visit that museum?
under 18, more inclined
under 18, less inclined
18-29, more inclined
18-29, less inclined
30-45, more inclined
30-45, less inclined
46-60, more inclined
46-60, less inclined
over 60, more inclined
over 60, less inclined
Thank you for helping with this data collection. Please rb for as big a sample as possible!

For those who have missed it, a tourist in Hawaii decided it would be fun to chuck a rock (a BIG rock) at a monk seal. He missed, but he was captured on video, and when told it was illegal to interfere with them, said "I'm rich, I can pay the fine."
Is the best part that he got doxxed? No.
Is the best part that he got tracked down by a local and beaten? No.
Arrested on state at federal charges, looking at up to 5 years and 50K? Nope.
The best part is the local city council's reaction.
And the best part of that is the look on the attorney's face.
More of this please, everywhere.
After the incident, another video went viral showing what appeared to be that man getting a beating. The Maui Police Department said they had no record of any reports of disorderly conduct or assault related to the monk seal incident.
Even the local police are being cool about this.
If you want to do something that will help the Hawaiian monk seals you can adopt a cat from Maui through our local Wings of Aloha program, keeping them off ourstreats and their waste out of it waterways! Many people here can't adopt because of independent landlords refusing to allow pets, creating an overpopulation crisis in our shelters! Cats carry toxoplasmosis - a disease which, if contracted, is 100% deadly to seals
If you live somewhere with seals (in Hawaiʻi or elsewhere) and this person's actions upset you, you can do your part to protect seals by keeping your cats inside to protect both them and your native wildlife!!!

Looney Tunes is real and happening outside.
good lord its feet really do spin around in a circle when going fast
Jarvis, pull up that variable meme.
i’m reminded of the developer of a mapping software who had a variable named ‘legend_handles’ that got refactored into ‘leg_handles,’ ‘leg_hands,’ and finally ‘feet’
I think it's cute when depictions of our solar system include earth's moon. Like yeah sure the moon's invited. We just like her
Like simplified models that don't have Literally Everything just the planets. And our moon #OurMoon

there are too many things happening this summer that i'm thinking we are going to need an extra 6-12 months of june and possibly another 3-4 months of july. probably no extra august as the problem should hopefully sort itself out by then. we are also looking into extending the day night cycle to 55 hours and extending the human lifespan to 10000 years.
May 31 2016 - Collin Kennedy, who is a cancer patient, used expanding spray foam to disable a parking meter at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg where he gets his treatment. He says the fees are a tax on the sick. [video]
yes!!!!!!!!
Lots of well-intentioned (I hope) but extremely condescending comments in the notes like “maybe don’t film yourself doing crime.” Respectfully… This man knew what he was doing. He didn’t just film himself, he invited media to film him. He did this to make his own statement, with his own voice, with his own face. He wanted himself and his actions to be visible.
Collin Kennedy died in 2018, just two years after this video was taken. What would anonymity have achieved for him in those last two years? Avoiding punishment? His whole point was that these parking fees are already a punishment on the sick.
Is public protest dangerous? Sure. Is it more dangerous than merely existing as a sick or disabled person navigating a hostile healthcare system? I think that is for every individual experiencing it to decide for themselves.
A Winnipeg man who filled a city parking meter with spray foam to protest the high cost of parking for sick people around hospitals has died
Collin Kennedy, 50, lived with multiple myeloma — a type of blood cancer — for 19 years.
He invited media to watch him fill a parking meter with spray foam to raise awareness about the high costs of parking for cancer patients and other sick people getting treatment. Video of Kennedy vandalizing the meter was widely shared on social media. It led to a Canada-wide petition to end the practice of charging for parking near hospitals.
He was a man who fought the only way he knew how, even if that meant taking matters into his own hands and disabling parking meters. He wasn’t in the boardrooms or corridors of power, he was on the streets trying to make a difference. (CBC News, December 12, 2018)
not gonna say it again!!!!
a BOG is a wetland that is acidic
a FEN is a wetland that is alkaline
FINALLY someone said it!!!!!!!
a SWAMP is a wetland whose vegetation consists of trees or other woody plants
a MARSH is a wetland with other forms of vegetation
#A LITTLE LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK
a MANGAL is a swamp whose soil concentrates high amounts of salt and very low amounts of oxygen, supporting little else than mangrove trees
a PEATLAND is a wetland whose soil concentrates decaying organic matter, becoming peat
Oh yeah baby, keep coming at me with watery environmental states
a SLOUGH is a wetland, usually a swamp or shallow lake, often a backwater to a larger body of water. Water tends to be stagnant or may flow slowly on a seasonal basis. Some sloughs used to be mouths of rivers, but have become stagnant because tectonic activity cut off the river’s source.
a BAYOU may refer to an extremely slow-moving stream (often with a poorly defined shoreline), marshy lake, or wetland. They typically contain brackish water highly conducive to fish life and plankton.

I remember one time I was doing an ADHD evaluation with a kid who had asked to go to the bathroom like 3 times during the 30-ish minute part of the interview where we asked his mom questions, so I knew that was his go-to excuse when bored. We get started on the WISC-V after the interview and within 30 seconds of vocab starting he asks if he can go to the bathroom, and I say:
“No.”
And this kid rolls his eyes because DUH and he says “Why not?” all cranky-styles, so I said
“Because you don’t need to go to the bathroom, you’re bored and you need to move. If you need to move, tell me and I’ll let you know if we’re at a part of the test where we can pause. Like, for example, we can pause right now if you wanna race me around the building.”
And this kids face fucken LIT up. We did three laps around the outside of the building and came back in and he finished like 3 subtests and asked if he could move so we got up and tried to see how high we could jump for 3 minutes and the finished the rest of the assessment with one bathroom break. And that was all it took tbh, this kid was SO capable he just needed to move and hadn’t been allowed to do so before. I also like making people mad by pointing out that I know what they’re up to, then just giving them permission to do the thing they were sneakily trying to do in the first place. It’s like being affectionately annoying and it’s part of how I connect to others.
go back to sleep puppy *holds chlorophyll over your face*
haha yay! *starts making sugars*
i love this post and always reblog it because it reminds me of a game i used to play in the bath tub as a child which was called “plant sugars” and the premise was that i was a plant organism and i had to produce starches to store in my tuber
