Good to see that so many folks out there are curious about real history and can take this show with a grain of salt. A very large grain. Kinda the size of a salt lick. 

Anyhoo, just a heads up: The show is on hiatus and now so are we.

The 22 Commandments Post for Season 2 is in the works but otherwise, we’re off for a much needed break from this show. THIS SHOW. If anything comes up that we feel deserves some special skewering attention we’ll chime in. If you want to contribute, message us and we’ll add you to our cranky crew.

[Elizabeth]'ll expand the canvas of the show because we’ll be playing her own stories in her court. We’ll meet her at a fascinating time in her life, very early in her rule. She’s still driven by her heart, but is also an incredibly cagey, self-protective character. Her stories will bring endless complications for Mary and the members of her tribe; some of the characters who are in the Court of France, one or two of them will be temporarily moving to the Elizabethan Court. There will be a fair amount of cross-pollination there.

We looked at the story less as Mary needed redemption, and more just to really kind of see her cleverness and see her defend the man she loves, the man who has protected her so many times—but also the nation that is really her adopted home. She takes her role as Queen of France very seriously. And regardless of any feelings she has for Condé, he’s a revolutionary, he’s a usurper. They’ve (Mary & Francis) been drifting closer to each other for the last handful of episodes. Mary’s feelings for Condé became less kind of love and more loyalty. I think she feels like she turned to him at a moment when she needed somebody. She did it as a way to not feel the feelings that she was having for Francis, which were so mixed with regret and remorse and pain of the experiences that she endured this year. So I think that they’ve been drifting closer to each other for some time now, and you’ll see them come together in a way that’s very dramatic and heartbreaking.

The infamous Friday Night Death Slot is the television equivalent of ritual seppuku in North America. note  Viewers, especially those in certain coveted demographics like 18-34 year-olds, just don't watch as much TV on Fridays as on other nights because they're doing other things: hitting the bars, going to a sporting event, seeing a movie (see below for why this is especially relevant), or hanging out with friends. Compounding this, the Friday prime-time slot is especially likely to get pre-empted by events like Big Games or Award Shows on local affiliates. Scheduling a show on a Friday - especially early in the evening, such as 8 PM Eastern - is the kiss of death. This goes double if the show isn't family friendly, as folks with kids are more likely to stay home on the weekend, or hasn't developed a loyal following.

How to fuck up a show in less than half of a season

We’re actually really proud of that book. It’s practically a bestseller. So good the network that writes our paychecks wants a sequel. You may have heard of it, it’s called SEASON 3.

You know what, the Reign writers could probably get back a lot of viewers next season if they publicly acknowledge that they fucked up. Just a message on twitter or something. It doesn’t have to be long.

Instead they seem to be completely ignoring the fandom. They’re in denial or something. The ratings have become absolute shit, there’s like fifty negative posts on tumblr and twitter for every single positive post, they’ve made Mary into one of the most unlikable people on television right now, and they’ve destroyed almost every meaningful relationship this show had going for it.

And their response to this? Silence. I can certainly understand needing to show confidence in their work, but their work has sunk this show. At the very least replace that idiot showrunner.

Thoughts on the "Pregnancy"

There is no way in hell she is actually pregnant based on the synopsis for next week. “Mary goes to extreme lengths to take down conde even as francis thinks she is betraying France.” Like no I’m sorry. Mary is totally faking it. She is not as in love with conde as she says she is and she is not pregnant. Thanks. Bye.
