Amulet, Iraq, 1917 CE

The museum writes: "This Iraqi gold amulet was made for a male child named Rachamim and is dated to the 6th of January, 1917, very possibly the date of the birth. It would have been hung around the neck. The amulet is cut in the shape of a fish, which is a symbol of good luck. It is finely engraved with the features of a fish and on the back is an engraved rendition of another fish."

the world has been growing darker and heavier and scarier over the past few years, and each year, hanukkah has become a time for me to consider what it means to relight the flames of my spirit. i hope all of you find a way to burn brighter this season—for your loved ones, for your community, for a cause you care about—and to find some light in the areas of your life that have been growing dim.

If anyone wants to, i’d appreciate a prayer for my mom— Shes in the hospital and is ok now, but we are waiting for tests to see if she has sepsis and if she needs surgery, and i hope she wont. And hopefully she will be feeling better soon. Thank you!! <3
