the situation with Lex was tense, to say the least.
A year ago, when you were still dating him, you begged him (and beg is a small word) to adopt a doggy together. "It can be like our child!" you told him, ecstatic with photos of your friends' dogs on your phone. The mogul reluctantly agreed after you were almost on your knees.
Indeed, in that co-parenting, you played both dad and mom at the same time—because, as you well remember, Lex never had the slightest interest in the dog that was supposed to be yours and his. He didn't even make the effort to call him by his name correctly because he always "forgot." You just ignored him, devoting your attention to the Doberman pint-sized dog named "blue" who followed you everywhere.
As expected, your relationship with Lex fell apart in a matter of time. Somehow, by a miracle, he didn't lock you in a pocket universe. He said he wasn't going to waste that time on someone so insignificant. You took it as a compliment.
What he did do was claim custody of Blue from you. Why? You still don't know. But what you did know was that Lex Luthor was willing to sue you if necessary, and you didn't see yourself in the financial position to be sued by a billionaire. So, yes, you share custody of your dog because your ex, out of the blue, says that "it's also his dog," and that he also has the right to see it.
"Are you sure that's not just a lame excuse to keep seeing you and not the dog?" your best friend said when you told her about the breakup with Lex. You laughed and told her not to be silly; Lex Luthor definitely didn't want to see you anymore.
A few months later, you started dating Clark: the complete opposite of your ex. He was super nice to blue, always buying him treats or taking him out to play. It was a typical sight for you to see your boyfriend, kneeling at the Doberman's level, scratching his ears and giving him the cutest baby voice you'd ever heard. "You're a good boy! Yes, yes, you! Who's my good boy? Who? You! You, of course you!"
"Hey," you called when Lex's secretary reached you on his office phone in a matter of seconds. "Could you bring blue to my house today instead of Monday? You don't have to come, you can send one of your employees."
If it were up to Lex, the dog would live 100 percent with you—but that meant losing the last bit of you he had left. And he'd rather have his trashed couch and dog poop all over his apartment than that. The businessman quickly looked at the watch on his wrist. "Maybe I'll send an employee." Finally, you'd get that animal out of his home.
You sighed in relief. "I'll keep him until next Friday, then." You didn't need to see Lex to know he wasn't even paying attention to you anymore. "It's just that my boyfriend and I want to take him to one of those places where dogs together and—" until that.
"You and what?" Lex's tone of voice dripped with contempt. When you repeated your words, that "me and my boyfriend," you could hear Luthor let out a sarcastic snort. "Oh, so you want to take my dog so your—boyfriend can meet him?"
"It's not your dog!" Ah, the same old argument. God forgive a child of divorce. "It's our dog! And it's none of your business what I—"
Lex hung up the call. You called again, only to be answered by the secretary's answering machine. "You're not taking my dog, Lex Luthor," you called again, your blood already boiling. To no avail.
Monday arrived, and Lex didn't bring the dog to you. Monday became Tuesday, and the man still hadn't answered your texts or calls. By Wednesday, you were a mess in front of Clark.
"Okay, babe—babe, look at me." Clark nervously took your hands, forcing you to look into his eyes. "Blue's going to be okay, okay? I promise."
"It's just that Lex—Lex's going to—"
"I'm not going to let Luthor lay a single finger on the dog." His hands, which were on yours, cup your cheeks sweetly. "I'll take care of that."
Clark doesn't want to make a scene out of this—It has to be easy, right? He goes in, grabs the dog, goes out, you're happy. He blows the cameras on the rooftop of Lex's apartment, silently and quickly forcing the lock on the door like it's paper. Is it a break-in? Maybe. He kidnapped your dog? Completely.
The place is silent, except for the dog's instant bark, which immediately notices Clark's presence. "Hey, hey Budd—shh." Superman sees the dog locked in a cage, wrapped in a definitely not cheap blanket. "Let's get you out of here, champ," he whispers.
Once he gets blue out, he flies out of the apartment with his super speed upon hearing the footsteps of who was probably your ex.
With blue at home, you spent hours thanking your boyfriend, kissing his cheek every time you saw your dog happy in your apartment. "My hero." Nothing fills Clark's chest with pride like being your hero. And of course, blue's hero too!
Once Lex realizes the dog is gone—he goes Insanely mad. But this time, you're the one ignoring his calls.
