Five Nights at Freddy's Movie (2023)
** Not a review, just wanting to write down some thoughts about media I've consumed to maybe look back on in the future
Not going to lie, this movie was pretty cheesy, but it was the fun kind of cheesy lol There were little scares, and the few jumpscares that were there was really apparent and obvious from the atmosphere and the context alone. The best part of the movie was definitely the easter eggs. It was clear it was more made for the fans of the series, and as a person who is one, I genuinely really loved it. It's not typically a movie I would actually like, especially as a horror fan, but I came into this knowing that it won't be anything like the experience from the games due to it being a different media. Granted, I don't know anything about the books, so I might have missed some easter eggs here and there, but of the ones I saw and know from the games, it was genuinely really fun to find and notice the references even if it was just a "Wait, did I just see or hear that right". And fuck man, more often than not I did, confirmed by looking over to my buddies and whispering to them questioning what I witnessed. They don't know the game or franchise as well as I do, but they were willing and also had a good time regardless of their experience with FNAF.
If there was a movie I've watched that toed the line of PG13 in my opinion, this would be it. There wasn't a lot of gore or anything, but the scenes with graphic images really felt like it was pushing it due to the tense environment that is Freddy's in the film. The animatronics was also well created down to the smallest of details. I was amazed since there were no CGI implemented into the animatronics, but practical puppeteering whatever that is. It felt lifelike, as if the animatronics were actually menacing/friendly depending on the circumstances. I say menacing/friendly due to the nature of the franchise, and the plot of the movie, which again, was cheesy but it worked to move things forward and to have the cast inside the Pizzeria.
Gen V Season 1 (2023)
** Not a review, just wanting to write down some thoughts about media I've consumed to maybe look back on in the future
The acting from The Boys wasn't great at times so I had pretty much the same expectations in terms of acting when it came around to Gen V. Irregardless of how I feel about the acting, Gen V didn't really have the same charm that The Boys had, and honestly I don't really know why. I know it's a different show, but it's still set in the same universe so I think it should have the same level of urgency, and it did, but it just seemed sporadic which felt jarring to me. I'm not expecting people to share the same opinion and thoughts about the show as me, and there are things from the show that I liked, there was just more that I felt were missing, but I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly what. And it's not my job to.
Now that I got some of the possible unpopular opinions out of the way, I did really like the modern setting of society being more open and inclusive with pronouns and being more accepted. I'm not saying The Boys wasn't in a modern setting, but Gen V was more apparent about it with how pronouns and current issues came into play. Having Jordan Li (Derek Luh/London Thor) an a bigender individual that struggles with their family dynamic due to their family not accepting that fact speaks volumes and gives representation for those individuals who struggle in a similar way. Cate Dunlap's (Maddie Phillips) relationship with Indira Shetty (Shelley Conn) made it clear to me that Cate wasn't on either side of the cast or Vought. It was inevitable that she wanted to do something, especially with her powers, due to insider info about what's happening in The Woods, but to who and to what extent were the questions unsolved until the final episode of the season. When her plan came to fruition, it just came full force with no turning back, and with the cameo at the final episode and where the cast ends up, who knows what's to come in season 2.

The Sandman Season 1 (2023)
** Not a review, just wanting to write down some thoughts about media I've consumed to maybe look back on in the future
I don't really know what compelled me to watch this but it's safe to say I enjoyed it barring Dream of the Endless's (Tom Sturridge) voice direction. Besides that and some other minor gripes I had, it didn't take long for me to get captured in the Waking World and the Dreaming. It's not the best dark fantasy I've consumed, but it was enough to keep me wanting more each episode, especially after Chapter 3 (Dream a Little Dream of Me). When Johanna Constantine (Jenna Coleman) was introduced, I didn't know what to expect. Necromancy, in my opinion, is hard to pull off, and sometimes feels overbearing depending on the performance, the environment, and the setting of the media, but it was done well enough for this show. It's only season 1, and since it's renewed, who knows in the future season(s).
The biggest highlight for me was the battle between Lucifer Morningstar/Samael (Gwendoline Christie) and Morpheus/Dream (Tom Sturridge) since it's not the typical battle you'd watch in fantasy media and let me just say my girl Gwendoline fucking killed her role as Samael. The battle, which I'd like to call the "I am..." game, between Samael and Morpheus with them using their powers to manifest something against what the other is having an actual affect to their being to me was fascinating. Admittedly, when I first watched the scene, I was very confused on what was happening, but upon the 2nd rewatch, it clicked and I was amazed by the direction, the set, and the artistry due to the threatening elegance that was portrayed. Side note, Gwendoline fucking killed it as Samael. Girl can do anything, and I hope we get to see more of her next season.
The reveal at the end was nothing I was expecting, but honestly, if I were Unity I'd also do both I mean, have you seen what Desire of the Endless looks like??? I want some of that. The sacrifice she made to save her great granddaughter and her great grandson is admirable and inspiring.
