tv from the mid 2000s was so good. if you can look past the everything
ok so. so we’re just. not reading now. wow ok. ok!!! booktok says we should remove half of the fun from reading!!! wow!!! (i found this in a video and apparently it’s not just this person doing it. it’s. quite a few of them. just to make that clear.)
happy pride month dykes i love you dykes
the problem with genetically modified crops is not so much the genetic modification but the patenting of genetic codes (and crops in general) as a tool of maintaining agricultural imperialism, and for this reason I can't talk to most people about GMOs
in the early 21st-century, the “small business” was a sort of small temple run by a local warlord. Patrons could purchase small trinkets and be granted absolution for the sins of their empire. This was called “ethical consumption.”
dont care + didnt ask + you know nothing of Javert + I was born inside a jail + I was born with scum like you + I am from the gutter too
also i love when tv shows signify that a new scene is immediately post-sex by cutting to a shot of two characters falling face-up into bed next to each other. it always makes me imagine that for them, sex must have taken the form of levitating supine above the mattress shoulder-to-shoulder, staring at the ceiling & not touching or acknowledging each other
If you see this you’re legally obligated to reblog and tag with the book you’re currently reading
Sorry to be Mr woke-a-tron 3000 and i doubt im the only person to have this grievance but it is so frustrating how every slightly progressive suggestion to make the world less shitty aside from voting (boycotting, recycling, not participating in fast fashion, not overconsuming, hell even slightly reducing meat intake, etc.) gets shut down as a personality attack against individual consumers because you cant blame individuals for broader societal issues. "If you ask me to stop littering youre basically saying im as bad as land fills which isnt fair its my coping mechanism." And so on is a common type of sentiment you see in response to even the nicest posts about about mildly shifting consumer habits
But when it comes to voting suddenly its a group project and we need to do our part for the greater good and if elections dont go the preferred route then its personally you and your political affiliates faults it went wrong and all of thats before you get to the many logistical barriers that make voting a challenge but those are just excuses
Like what is the logic of "collective action doesnt work and won't change anything. Except for this one specific thing"
People don't want to do anything that requires them to actually change their lifestyle. They think just having "progressive" beliefs is enough. It's the individualistic "I don't owe anyone anything" mindset.
Yeah and its like, of course there is nuance and not everything will be accessible for everyone to do all of the time. And changing your lifestyle habits is legitimately difficult even if its easy on paper.
Im just tired of the immediate response to even the most neutrally or even kindly worded suggestion that those of us who are able to could try to adjust our consumer and lifestyle habits to make things less shitty is met with "well this is hard for ME to do so its not even worth attempting. Plus thousands of other people will just counteract my efforts"
And it's like cool, but why don't you keep that same mindset when it comes to voting? Why is that when you decide individual actions, build up to something larger?
gender essentialism is soooo funny bc it's like "this is what women are like" and you're like "I've met women and many of them, if not the majority, have not been like that" and it's like "well women SHOULD be like that" and you're like "why should women be like that" and its like "because that's what women are like"
do you think the catholic church effectively utilized wokeness by funneling money into the colonization and rape of the americas after issuing the doctrine of discovery which effectively legalized the subjugation of indigenous peoples?
thursday..... and i bet you wish you were her
