ok some tennocon thoughts now that i have the time:
overall tau looks pretty cool! i feel like every update since 1999 has been okay or worse in one way or another so im excited to like. enjoy the game again. usually the big updates are good enough that it's worth enduring the alright stuff in between. i will say i do really, REALLY miss the vibe sentients had before when they were bizarrely alien, and we didn't have a huge grasp on how they functioned collectively, like whether they were truly individuals or if there were some hivemind shenanigans happening. like individual sentient troops never really gave the impression that they were people, yet we had hunhow who was obviously intelligent and capable of speech. it felt like maybe it was a matter of division, with the larger more "whole" sentients being more individual, and smaller pieces split from them being less so. but now they just feel like humans with a new coat of paint which is. kinda boring? even adis, for all they did to make him feel inhuman, stlll just felt like a human kid with unique speech patterns. i think there were many more interesting ways to explore the sentients' idea of sentience and build a deeply inhuman society around that, instead of just making a familiar human setting with guys that aren't human but behave the same and have a lot of the same things going on. like even the playing cards we see them using being just Normal Playing Cards is so wack like. have you seen regatta in soulframe?? they made this really unique cool ass little board game that genuinely feels like a tiny part of the world but this spacefaring race of sentient machines that has been growing separate from humanity for centuries just uses modern playing cards?? like it feels like they're afraid to make these guys anywhere near as bizarre as they've been presented prior. backpedalling their inhumanity to the point where all that makes them inhuman is the way they look does not feel like a great play to me. and even then, the alienness of their designs has been watered down a lot
i do like some of the sentient designs we see (like those four legged guys with the leaf shape things on their backs, those guys rock) but i really dislike the look of all the more humanoid guys we see in the background, especially larynde, like it feels like they REALLY wanted her to evoke a human shape. remember hunhow?? remember how he's just a big fucking Thing??? i miss that. i miss whatever the fuck that was man the new stuff is cool in its own right but like GOD i just want more of that weird bullshit but alas i am always a fool for hoping
one thing that i noticed that i am VERY excited about is right before we see the hunra, we hear the indifference say "is that how you remember it?" which!!! seems to finally be expanding on the ending of the sacrifice where it asks the same thing to the operator in regards to isaah's death. i honest to god thought that point was going to be ignored forever but i'm happy to see it be brought back!
i'm also SO pumped that we're finally going to use the vessels, they've been one of the coolest things in the game and i've always been sad they didn't have more presence or relevance, but now we'll actually get to see what they're all about! and it's cool that they're customizable, though i hope we get more than two generic body/face shapes. i'd understand if we don't, those guys are detailed as hell and i don't imagine it's easy to just make a new variant, but i would very much appreciate a bit more physical diversity.
also i think brysko is really cool? as someone who does Not like the non-1999 protoframes i was very worried they'd try and cram one into tau, but thankfully they took a different but still interesting approach! and i like that they're. y'know. justifying his sentience as a warframe. not pointing any fingers or anything. i'm excited to see what he's like!
also also seeing present albrecht was super cool! he's like. slightly blue?? and has sentient bits??? im really curious as to what that's about
and it seems like this actually was relevant!
don't know what putting wally's finger on a normal sized vessel hand will do but i'm excited to see!
also also also citrine prime also looks really cool, though im not really a fan of that Thing they added to her butt, im not really sure what it is but it feels kinda awkward. the crystal ponytail also feels like a bit much but maybe that'll change when i see the model? i've always disliked her weird peeled shoulders since it makes accessorizing her Impossible but i like that they leant into it with a much more defined and interesting shape here. i don't really play citrine since i don't like her base skin or her deluxe, but this will almost certainly get me to play her more!
also also also also banshee deluxe is so freakig cool!!! she's so hot i love whatever they're channelling for this and i REALLY hope her rework is fun
also also also also also the adrian intermission seems to imply that there will be more protos (or maybe even more chimeras like brysko since this'll be post-tau) and they'll be romanceable. not entirely sure how to feel about this, but i hope it's the latter so no one has to deal with me complaining about protos out of 1999 again ! also because getting to date a sentient/warframe hybrid sounds kinda swag as fuck tbh so i hope that happens
also also also also also also we're getting an ice girlie soon??????? i'm really curious to see what she's like
also also also also also also also very excited to see my pup in soulframe grow up ::] no more sleeping in the nightfold she is a Big Murder Machine now
(and of course i'm SO SO pumped about getting a new onlyne song, i never thought it'd happen but it's happening and i can't wait)
