Going to the con yesterday was a painful reminder of how isolated I’ve been feeling lately.
I wish so much that there were people in the small town where I live that enjoyed the same things I do. My friends are back in my hometown and I don’t get to see them often. Living in a place where people don’t know anything about geek culture (and are mostly MAGA adjacent/super religious) or think that it’s “weird” is disheartening.
I just needed to vent a bit.
In addition to Nazeeh, I also got to meet a few other VAs yesterday.

It was my husband’s first con and he was shocked at how nice people were (not just the VAs but people in general). I was like “Well, yeah…most of the people at cons are pretty introverted.” 😂
The folks that society deems as “weird”, I’ve found, are some of the nicest and most genuine people. And this comes from a fellow “weirdo”.
I didn’t cosplay this time because it was waaay too hot. Props to the people who did!
Hubby and I are at Big Charlotte Anime Convention and we got to meet Nazeeh Tarsha, the English VA for Kafka. He was so incredibly nice!

Can we talk about the enshitification of Etsy real quick?
l've been getting a lot of ads for Etsy lately. I remember discovering it in my early 20s and being amazed at all of the handcrafted items and artwork. These days it's really lost its luster.
Yes, there are still a lot of handmade items for sale, but more and more garbage keeps drowning out the good stuff in my algorithm. It's disheartening.
When I say "garbage" I mean:
• Al "art"
• Temu/Amazon items being upsold for 5x the price and marketed as "handmade"
• 3D printed trash (ie. Dragons...! Omfg it's literally the same ones over and over)
Not to mention shitty policies detrimental to actual small businesses
Here's an example....
I was trying to find cute nail charms today and these are the exact same items from Amazon and Temu, but the price is 3x higher.
What in the capitalist hell is going on??
the worst part of summer is that people get sooo comfortable expressing their disgust at having to see other people’s bodies. they’re always complaining about wrinkly old men at the nude hot springs or fat women in bikinis at the beach. I hate that shit. if you’re not capable of being normal about bodies you personally don’t find attractive, just turn your head to look at something else! and if you’re not smart enough to do that, then at least do the rest of us the courtesy of suffering in silence, because we don’t wanna hear your weird comments. thanks.
