Forest dept at work to control fires in Bandipur and Nagarahole
The authorities are bracing themselves to prevent forest fires at Bandipur and Nagarahole Tiger Reserves as they do not want a repeat of the huge destruction of forest cover in 2019.Principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife), Sanjai Mohan, told Bangalore Times: “We have written to the state government to station a well-equipped private aircraft in Mysuru to prevent forest fires in Bandipur and Nagarahole areas. We are waiting for a positive response. Even the Indian Air Force has assured full support to protect the forest from wildfires, especially from February to April.”
Due to heavy rainfall last year, forest fires that were expected to occur in February may get pushed. “Yes, there was copious rainfall in November which has led to the filling of lakes of both tiger reserves. But that doesn’t mean we can relax. We are prepared for the challenging situations so that no harm is done to the wild animals and large tracts of vegetation which take years to recover,” Forest Officer Mohan said.

The Story Of Tiger Jay The Hulk Of Umred
This legendary story set foot on the Indian wilderness canvas in the winters of 2010-2011, Nagzira National Park. The two cubs named "Jai" and "Veeru" fathered by Dhendu and nurtured by Mai grew up to become a formidable force.
In his prime "Jai", weighed more than 250 Kgs and was considered the largest tiger of India in 2015. By the time Jai reached his adulthood, the forest of Nagzira and its territorial balance were taking turns. Umred, a new world, and new challenges. Umred Karhandla was ruled by two dominant resident males when Jai arrived after the journey of 130KM Which is big for A Tiger. The throne of Umred was handed over to Jai with a submissive exit by the previous rulers. Umred was now Jai's to rule.
Jai's kingdom was proliferating, buzzing with life by 2015. The same year he was radio-collared by wildlife expert Bilal Habib and monitored continuously. But a few months later the link failed.
The sighting was at its peak during the early summer of 2016. And then suddenly on 19th April 2016, Jai went missing from his territory of Umred Karhandla near Nagpur. An extensive search was organized by the forest officials, supported by 100 volunteers.
Even after weeks of mega-sweeping search across forests of Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, and Chandrapur, no traces of Jai could be found. Incidentally, Jai's last location was based on his radio collar signals. It was on April 18, 2016, at the Paoni range, which was close to Jai’s habitat of Umred Karhandla. After which he was presumed dead.

Rare Albino Hog Deer Spotted In Kaziranga National Park
A wildlife photographer captured pictures of a rare white hog deer spotted in the Burapahar Range of the Kaziranga National Park, The Sentinel Assam reported. A few local residents from the area had notified the photographer about the whereabouts of the rare animal, the report said. The white colour of the deer is completely genetic, caused by gene mutation, and it is not a separate species of the deer family, the report quoted the DFO as saying. Among 40,000 hog deer in Kaziranga, one or two such rare white hog deer can be spotted, according to Gogoi.
