My thoughts about Audio Books...
Audio books are great and if you have a busy hectic schedule they are an easy way to absorb stories, memoirs, or information. Then this option is a perfect fit for you! And that’s fine. I’m actually glad audio books were invented.
But, I have one small pet peeve about it.
The definition of reading is actually physically reading words...on a page. Imagine that.
A lot of people call it reading when they are listening to their audio book in the car, when cleaning, working, at the gym, etc...
Now if you are reading along with the audio book that’s different because you are physically reading the words while listening along and some people need that to help them or they think that who ever voices the audio book they really enjoy. You can call that reading as long as you’re still physically reading words. But, you can’t call it reading or getting your reading done if all you did was listen to the audio book version, but didn’t physically read the book. No honey, you listened to a story...you didn’t READ the book.
Like I said if audio books are your thing that’s fantastic. I have nothing against them and you can still get your Harry Potter, Stephen King novels, or whatever you enjoy as an audio book. Just remember that you are LISTENING to someone read you a book. It’s not called READING. I cringe a little, lose a few brain cells, and a puppy dies every time I hear a person say, “Yeah, I’ve read the audio book of {insert book title} it was a great read!”, “I read audio books while on the long drive to work.”, or “I’m reading that book as an audio book.”
Like I said...nothing wrong with loving audio books and using them for whatever reason. Whatever works for each individual person is fine. To each his/her own. But, c’mon people...there is a difference between Reading and LISTENING.
Yes, I’ve had people say those lines to me and it makes me not want to live on this planet anymore. 😐
...and don’t get me started on the oxymorons in this world that completely do not make sense.
