Final Fantasy XIII
I finally finished this game after first starting it back in 2011. It didn't take this long due not liking it (we all know it is divisive and the group that dislikes it really thinks it's the worst game in the series). There are just way too many really long story-driven games, and most games that I prefer tend to be really long games. So when I play a ton of them concurrently, it'll take a long time to finish games.
Couple that with real life and the books there are to read and movies to see and sex to have and other 200-hour games to play, then yeah, it took me seven years to finish this. Even Persona 4 Golden, which I started in 2013 (or so?) still is only at 90% finished.
That said, I ended up really liking FF13 and loving its characters. Lightning is great. The game was linear (hence a lot of the negative criticism) but not any more linear than FF12 Â FF10, which is almost universally adored, so the "it's too linear" complaint is rendered moot.
The ending was particularly moving. The game being linear and the story being so closely focused on the six characters with almost no outsiders joining them (for example, for contrast, the group in FF7 spent a LOT of time with people not in the core group), losing a third of their group in the end made it a bit sadder than most Final Fantasy games' endings. But that's why I liked it and why I found it moving. It felt more real and relatable.
