as of writing, senator blackburn is beyond desperate, and is reaching to house energy, and commerce committee now to reach a deal with the house to pass kosa, as well as the No Fakes Act, and multiple age verification laws.
there's no current date for their next meeting involving kosa, so while we still have time, please call your house representatives. if you aren't from the US, please share this. thank you.
if i made any mistakes, please let me know, and i apologize in advance.
PLEASE CALL YOUR REPS! STOP THESE BILLS FROM PASSING! I'M NOT LOSING THE INTERNET TO THESE PEOPLE!
It's not for protecting kids! This won't protect kids. We've seen multiple times now that these ID checks aren't as effective as a lot of people think, and even harm people in certain cases.
This is literally what people are talking about when they say AI will be used to mainstream widely held bigotry. LLMs are trained on frequency and probability -> straight relationships are more well represented in the dataset -> straight pronouns and terms become the "correct" normal.
This is a form of backdoor bigotry from both normative facts (there are more straight than gay relationships) and well represented bigoted beliefs (men are superior to women).
Combine this with the mass of people inclined to believe (and being encouraged to believe) that if AI says and does something it must be correct
i love having a fountain pen and a little leather traveler's journal bc it makes me feel like a wizard or perhaps an intrepid adventurer taking important notes (grocery lists and to dos.) however when the ink in my pen runs out or it takes a bit to start flowing or it takes a little too long to open up my notebook i feel like an antiquated fool or perhaps a buffoon who obstinately clings to the past. do you understand
I just want to thank you for providing the fandom with Great Hall Era Beldaruit, Qifrey, and Olruggio 🙂↕️ I had previously been thinking a lot about teenage Qifrey and Olruggio so to have a great artist making some content for it is awesome!
They are super cute and I love how pure and innocent their frienship is!
Qifrey's innocence about how social norms are is very dear to me, even if I did not have the opportunity to draw it. I love how he can be acting like a newborn and a child of his age at the same time. Plus he is upset about what happened to him, he is lost, without any reference, which is interesting to see. What happened to him was cruel and terrible, so him being upset is very understandable.
It is kind of sad (but understandable) that Beldaruit gave Qifrey a lot of freedom, as he was also learning how to take care of a lost kid. He was not well prepared, but did his best. And it worked out very well as Qifrey is a very loving person.
I love how Olly got close to this little lost and traumatised boy. I think it went purely from his kindness at first (and also because he is kind of an "outsider" himself and also traumatised too) but he also loves who Qifrey is. And he doesnt care about all the rumours or the fact that Qifrey doesn't know his past and his connection to the brimhats. Olly always has been a kind, patient and observant person. I wish we could have a flash back from Olly's point of view! I am sure both of those boys see the other as their most radiant star.
So I find this era very cute and angsty to draw. :) They can also be cute and angsty as adults tho!!
I love this part so much -- the way this chapter parallels qifrey with coco's mother in multiple ways, including visually here in them both draping fabric over her protectively. the way he doesn't presume to step into her mother's place, but takes on the duty of shielding coco from the cold in her absence. visually we're also placed under the safety of his wing, as it were, to witness coco's most vulnerable state, feeling with her how big and steady and safe he is in her eyes despite as readers having just seen him as a confused hurting child himself for several chapters and knowing all his foibles and missteps well after almost 100 chapters. among all the other things shirahama is a master of, these subtleties of character perspectives is one of the most devastating ones to me.
(for all of the everything going on I think qifrey is actually consistently good at making sure he maintains the role of the adult in this relationship. he recognizes coco's reflexive smile as something akin to his own masking, but he doesn't bleed his own emotions into that, he's there to support her and actually manages to do it. and he apologizes when he slips up, which is probably just as important.)
the sky's kindest, most radiant star strikes again :') again shirahama laying her thematic groundwork perfectly, though; the realization qifrey has at the end of the chapter is set up and shown off perfectly here. he's using the warmth given to him by olruggio and giving it on to someone else (it is, crucially, not a finite resource, it multiplies with the more people it touches on)
I suppose you would know, qifrey :') I also find it very metaphorically interesting that coco's mum is frozen while holding out a lantern, considering the importance of light and warmth in keeping qifrey in this world in the same situation. she carries her own light with her, she's the light for coco, what she's always headed towards. no matter how she goes astray along the way, it's the light she's following. (presumably knowing, however she is capable of knowing right now, that her daughter is out there somewhere makes for a hell of a light to hold on for.) also the fact that the way to coco's home and her mother is guarded by a plant haha looking back at it it's like 'wow wonder where qifrey got that idea from who's to say'
look at the conspicious absence of himself in the supportive lineup lmao. self-esteem of a gnat under there. 'well obviously not me tho I am mostly a Problem'. (still thinking about 'I'm just an empty... mess' thanks for asking.) and then it's thinking about olruggio that makes him sort of wake up to 'wait. I am a person who can have value to other people and meaningfully impact their life posititvely fuck!!!!'. cool and fine and good I'm not sad and touched at all!
also not feeling completely unhinged by how this echoes olly's sentiment way back in the extra chapter that made me cry like a little baby. (presumably he did not actually speak all that aloud, but something clearly resonates between him and qifrey wordlessly here)
shirahama playing the long con always and I am her most gleeful and willing mark
If the system ain't broke, don't fix it, I guess! Accounting may not be the oldest profession, but someone had to keep the books for them.
I mean, in theory I know that Excel is based on the structure of earlier accounting technology that's been around for hundreds of years -- what do we think we did to track commerce before computers? -- but it still kind of blows my mind to, for example, look at my ancestor's journal from a whaling voyage in 1770 and see spreadsheets in the back.
