Okay, I'm kind of bored at the moment and have some time to kill before I retire for the night, so please tell me your favorite Order of No Quarter character from Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. Preferably why as well.

Not sure I'll do anything with that knowledge, I'm just curious.

My favorite is Polar Knight. Where do I even begin with this lad.

His design is so cool, pun intended. His size, build and general details/quirks really set him apart from the rest of the cast; it's especially with the shovelers + Shield too (because yes, it's confirmed they have history together, like Shovel and Polar! I'm normal about that I swear.) Bonus I like how his beard makes him look like a really sad dog. It fits him. His song tracks are also the best in the game to me sorry I don't make the rules

But to tell you the truth, he's always been so fascinating to be for one main reason: he's so vague, yet so complex if you look hard enough. His character as a whole is so interesting, with his animosity towards any presentation of weakness seen as a negative trait. It intrigues me because, he hates cowardice, but he cowers towards the Enchantress due to her immense power. Back on that, I love his levels of undying loyalty to her despite him not really having a reason to. However, I personally believe the true reason he stayed so loyal to her was because he recognized something within his mistress... Perhaps an old friend. It was that drawing force of familiarity that drew him to protect. (Note this is just a headcanon, but it makes sense why he would be so loyal.) Also, if Specter is The Enchantress' lapdog, then Polar is her hunting dog. He'd do anything for her and submit to her no matter how much he disagrees deep down, and that's really intriguing to me. His vagueness leads to so many opportunities for a deeper story, even if his cold, stoic demeanor suggests otherwise.

And I haven't even gotten to the dynamic with Shovel, I adore the Sabertooth Wolverine thing they have going on. His great respect towards Shovel's skill yet Polar's resentment towards him when his strive for power is brought up by his old friend. It makes me wonder what the Shovelry Trio's past might've looked like... But anyway, his morals and views of what makes someone worthy of respect interests me, and something I think that really fits him with that is "the reason we hate is because we see the greatest negatives of ourselves in other people." Like I said earlier, he views physical and mental weakness as a negative trait, yet refuses to accept it in himself, instead turning it against him into unmovable stoicism. However, his compassion is still obviously there, he just chooses to not show it often. I love the subtle twist on the gentle giant trope, but instead of making him always nice, it's a hidden kindness that needs to be found. It really shows through his kindness towards animals and certain people such as King Knight that one time. Additionally I like how he bonds over animals and food more than he does anything else with others, it's great lol

Also, most of this is just from my overanalyzing brain and isn't entirely confirmed. YCG DEFINITELY didn't intend a majority of the things I stated here, but the inclusions of them make him a lot more complex and a more interesting character as a whole.

aaighh thinking about Blackavar. this is gonna be long:

so when Holly first mentions him:

"I've never been near anyone so frightened in my life" really hits different knowing that Holly lived through the destruction of Sandleford :'(

even when he's escaping he immediately looks to Bigwig for orders:

It looks like he has a grudge against Campion (perfectly reasonable, so did I):

And this scene is fascinating to me:

He's absolutely shocked to see Bigwig casually joking and arguing with Hazel:

Blackavar becoming just as important at WsD as the Sandleford rabbits <3:

and I won't go into his whole backstory but just--his contradictory attitudes toward Efrafa: he wanted to "make it" in the system and was proud to train in the Owsla, but at the same time he resented that whole system

The implication that at first he was only upset about being passed over for a promotion and got more radicalized when he made friends with Hyzenthlay:

and even after the escape he still "saw himself as a trained Efrafan":

he's very practical:

PLEASE SAY MORE ABOUT THE EFRAFAN ACCENT. DOES HYZENTHLAY HAVE AN ACCENT TOO

also this is crazy:

either he's got crazy traumatic memory loss (entirely possible given he's introduced saying he can't remember anything), or is just so afraid to admit to having a different opinion than an authority figure that he hasn't gotten over it when talking to Hazel and Bigwig. ugh!

back on the "we've got to kill campion" train:

I'm glad Adams follows up about how he gets on back at Watership Down:

and he's the one who knows best exactly what the Efrafans are capable of:

I love him!! Even on top of getting arrested and maimed, he's so psychologically messed-up from being raised and trained in Efrafa, and he sometimes comes off as detached but he's so earnest and loyal and tenacious! 10/10 character
