I was afraid of looking into my heart…afraid of thinking seriously about anything…I did not want to know whether I was loved, and I did not want to admit to myself that I was not loved…

Okay, so this guy didn’t like jokes. Not that it had been a very good one, but he could’ve given her a courtesy chuckle. It wasn’t like that had ever stopped her, though. Unless he had thought she was serious. In which case, good lord. That was an issue unto itself.
She had been hoping for a different answer, but a part of her expected his response. The fact did not make her any happier about it. “Minefields. And here I forgot my tap-dancing shoes. Great.” She put her hands over her face. “Just. Great.” Her voice was muffled slightly, but then she dragged her hands miserably down her cheeks. “Why couldn’t it be werewolves.”
She let her hands drop into her lap and sighed. “The East is… well, about what you’d expect. A little better than that, maybe, dependin’ on how much of a Debbie Downer you are,” she answered, vaguely, waving one hand in a semi-dismissive gesture. “I happen to be restless, stupid, and a masochist–great combination, by the way, can’t recommend it enough for the pursuit of eternal happiness–so my bein’ here doesn’t have much bearing on how things are.”
She paused, rubbing her forehead with her fingertips, staring at one of her boots while she thought. Her eyes flicked back up to his, brow furrowed slighty. “…The hell did you mean, ‘alchemists.’ I thought alchemy was a bunch of ignorant, bored old men who didn’t understand chemistry boiling their own piss and giving themselves lead poisoning while trying to turn base metals into gold n’ shit. Are they some faction or gang or something?”
The more she spoke, the less he understood. Werewolves? Why would there be werewovles? Those didn’t even exist! Of course, he recognized the - in his opinion, poor - attempt at humour, but it was misplaced. The end of the world wasn’t a comedy club. It was her question that made him look at her strangely, though. That made even less sense. How did she not know...?
“The East must truly be in trouble, if you haven’t come across any of them.” He shook his head, then frowned again.
“Of course, not. Without the alchemists, humanity would have been eradicated, years ago.” Just saying those words sent a bitter taste through his entire throat. To speak positively, in any way at all, of the people who had destroyed his home, his people, his country - And yet, to lie was a sin. She asked for an explanation, and he would give her one. Though, perhaps a demonstration would be better. Seeing was believing, after all. But, then, what to transmute...?
He could do something with the fork, but, silverware was something or a rare commodity, these days. Same with cookware, so the pot was out. Besides, there was still food there, and he didn’t want that to go to waste. It didn’t have to be a flashy display, anyways; something like that could draw unwanted attention. From what, he wasn’t sure, though he’d rather not risk finding out. So, he picked up a rock, closed his fist around it, and - after a slight blue flare - held out a small stone arrowhead.
“This is alchemy. How have you not seen it, yet?”
“So speaks that man killing others for the sake of a holy crusade. Death is a consequence of war, of life. You either accept it now or learn the hard way. Your hands are as stained as mine.”
The words, no matter how frequent they escape his tongue, feel no softer than when he had been first forced to utter them. He’s accepted the weight of his ghosts and they, in turn, rarely stray from his side. They fill his lungs and scream in his ears, yet he would still have them be his own banshees than to be silent; for when they watch him, silent, he can no longer place anger upon their torture. Their silence reminds him of why they are there.
Static crackles and he has to stop himself from flinching. Roy’s seen what the man is capable of and knows that one misplaced step could cost him his life. Hawkeye isn’t here to save him now.
His fingers twitch – thumb scraping at middle just enough to generate the tiniest of sparks. A warning of his own. Distance is an absolute necessity. Get too close and he might as well plan his own funeral.
“You understand the consequences of attacking an officer. Stop now and maybe you’ll get a quick trial. Continue to mess with fire and you will get burned. Severely.”
Talk, talk, watch his movements. His brand of alchemy is restricted. Dodge and attack. He braces himself.
“It’s your call.”
Such arrogance. Could he really be surprised? Just look at who he was talking to!
“That was no war. It was a slaughter! No matter what you say, I’ve never killed a child!”
Roy Mustang. The Flame Alchemist. The Hero of Ishval. A hero who had saved none - the ‘saviour’ of a country he had laid waste to. A hero. Celebrated, glorified, beloved for the mass slaughter of those just trying to protect their homes. And he was the hero, while the ashes he left behind were vilified, painted as having blown from the fires of Hell itself. History would not mourn the Ishvalans who died during the genocide, nor would their names or deeds even be remembered; Mustang, meanwhile, would likely have biographies written about him for years to come. He was, after all, the hero.
How disgusting.
The sparks in his hand flare brighter, and he increases his pace. Closer, closer, closer. There is no way he’ll allow both of them to live - one will walk away tonight. By the grace of God, it will not be one whose leash is held by the devil. It will not be this blue-coated dog.
‘The consequences of attacking an officer’.
No.
The consequences of erasing a monster.
“You don’t understand. The only judgement being passed today will be on you-!”
God would not be merciful. Neither would he.

“Dad-dy … missed you … where have you been?” The chimera nuzzles her head against his leg, her body aching for affection from his adopted father. Nina has come to realize that her days here are dwindling, with her body growing weaker with each day that passes by. She wants to spend as much time with Scar as possible.
“--Nina.” He smiled, kneeling down to wrap her in a hug. It had been a while since he’d seen her, and it was nice to have a family to come home to, again.
“I’m sorry I left you. I had- Business, to take care of.” He shifted his weight back, placing a hand on her head. “But, it’s been finished. --How are you feeling?”
@vagantum-custos
“Where did you come from”
❛ Sure. You’re not the first person to ask so don’t worry about it. ❜ Nico replied with a shrug, shifting his weight from foot to foot.
❛ I’m not going to charge you though, all I need is something that belonged to the deceased and some sortof offering. ❜
He hesitates, then nods once. It was his own idea, after all; backing out now would be senseless. He pulls Brother’s notebook from his jacket, holding it out with only a faint tinge of distrust in his mouth.
Hesitation returns after the explanation is given.
“--What sort of offering?”
@fengarii
“--Shouldn’t you be in school?”
“Tch, is that so?” The irony of the scarred Ishvalan’s words was near enough to have The Jealous howling with laughter. By sheer willpower did the sin manage to bite his tongue and hold back his quips. “Nothing, I suppose. It’s not like I’m here to stop you. But it’s not like I couldn’t let my curiosity get the better of me when I saw you pass by.”
“--Curiosity. I see.”
The frown he wore was far from understanding. He never could get these hellspawn sorted out in his mind. Perhaps, they weren’t meant to be understood? Madness could not be reasoned with, after all...
“And what do you intend to do?”
@haikxra
“Have you run away, again?”
@wwilder
“--Are you here to pray?”

A’ight:
1. I just got out of lion dance practise and my legs feel like either dancing or dying
2. On a car ride with my dad the other day I figured out that they call it ‘the glare of the sun’ because, when it gets in your eyes, you look like you’re glaring
3. I have forgotten my own birthday before (It’s May 18, I was /convinced/ it was April 21st before my best friend Hannah reminded me it’s not)
4. I have ridden ponies, horses, an elephant, a donkey, and a camel
5. I once convinced a group of young children I was a part-time coal miner, because I’d spent the day dressed up as a ‘villain’ for this camp event day we had, and the military-grade black face paint the army medic who worked there gave us WOULD NOT COME OFF. ... granted, I absolutely coated myself in it, but, hey. I taught them all ‘mining songs’.
