ite taas luulin ettÀ puhutaan niistÀ tolkienin keski-maan kÀvelevistÀ puista ja rupesin ihmetteleen ettÀ miten vitussa ne liittyy kanteletta soittaviin kÀrpÀsiin
Just in case any non-finn was wondering, we have now established that misunderstanding what I was trying to say is not limited to english. This also happens in my first language.
I was asking about omens, wanting to know whether someone who knows about omens would know what it means when you hear a housefly play a kantele (a string instrument traditionally played in Finland and Karelia), this thing:
But the way I worded "those of you who know about omens" could also be interpreted as "those of you who know about ents" (left) or "those of you who know about Entei" (right)
and the earth will turn flat and get flipped over like a pancake before I figure out how to communicate in a way where people will understand what I was saying instead of coming up with wholly new and novel ways to interpret me.
This reminded me of the little marzipan figures my aunt used to make at the LuostarinmÀki museum in Turku when I was a child. There were pigs! There were frogs with little tongues! So yes, absolutely, these two are soulmates.
Book concept: a book written entirely as back and forth text messages, titled Where The Fuck Are You, and it's all dialogue between the POV character asking the question, and the protagonist who is one of those grandma-levels of mysterious texters.
I'm out with my dog and the girl from that party
It's 3 fucking am, what are you doing
We're on a walk
Do you have any idea how little that answers the question. Which girl, what party, and where are you going?
That girl from Emma's party with the dragon necklace. We're going to the churchyard.
I don't know if I even want to know. Are you aware that they don't open the church gates until 8 am?
It's cool she's got bolt cutters. And we only need to get to the graveyard side.
What the fuck are you doing?
[the blurriest possible cell phone photo of a graveyard, sent an hour and a half after the last message]
A series of stories of the mystery texter getting into bizarre, seemingly unrelated random incidents, but over the course of the book it becomes clear that they're all connected somehow. And the Mystery Texted obliviously inadvertedly ruined a long-carrying plan to destroy the world, by always being in the way at the most inconvenient moments.
Lol.
chef's kiss. a master of ending conversations finally meets a man who will call his bluff. though i take it barok doesn't often need good excuses for ending conversations; most people are pretty eager to be out of the reaper's presence. ryunosuke's interest in him must be...confusing.
taking a tour through all the classic polite phrases meaning "fuck off"
he gave us a "...!" so he must not have entirely seen that coming. i did wonder if he was trying to get rid of ryuu before ryuu could offer this. maybe he didn't think ryuu would be so forthright, or maybe he just wanted ryuu to leave so he could brood in peace and he's entirely surprised.
sorry this fucking DESTROYS ME. i think part of it is the way the game paces the dialogue - when you advance past barok's question you get a white flash and "yes" pops up instantly. ryunosuke doesn't need to think for a second or even reply conversationally, he nearly cuts barok off. he's just so adamant. yes i trust you. no conditions, no "even though you treated me like shit" or "even if other people say you're the reaper" none of that. yes i trust you.
RYUU'S CONFESSION i am weak i will cry. let me try to bREATHE and go line by line
"I've heard you speak many times in court." pretty simple, barok is fundamentally honest. and yknow...hates violent criminals, but the honesty is probably what earned ryuu's trust. i mean, if barok actually DID kill someone for some reason i...really think he'd just confess. he's told ryuu he doesn't know what happened and ryuu believes him.
"I've seen how you treat people." that could very easily be a condemnation but ryuu means it positively and doesn't feel a need to expand on it: ryuu knows barok treats others fairly as well as compassionately despite his surface level hostility and ryuu expects barok knows what he's talking about. all those little kindnesses barok tries to pretend he's not doing.
"So I'm quite sure that you would never have taken another's life." not just gregson but anyone. ryuu's been skeptical of the reaper myth for quite a while but i get the sense barok didn't know that.
it's interesting to notice when barok closes his eyes too. ryuu's big earnest eyes as he's describing his observations about barok's underlying good nature: too much.
"It's just, my feelings can't be used as evidence in a court of law, sadly." feelings is such a word choice. it's not ryuu's opinion or judgement, it's his feelings. idk this is such a vulnerable little statement, it's really sweet - he phrases it almost like a mild joke so maybe he's feeling a bit bashful too, just coming out and saying all that. saying "i feel warmly toward you" to the scariest dude in london.
and the fact that apparently, if ryuu's feelings were evidence, the court would immediately rule that barok has never done anything wrong in his life. cries.
ok this post is big so i'll finish this conversation in a separate one
it's so funny to read "and there was just one bed :O" fanfiction set in time periods where sharing a bed was entirely normal. Guys, just be glad it's only the two of you.
Proposition: Thereâs only the two of us in this bed (which makes it uncomfortably intimate). Weâre usually three abed with Snoring Steve the footman between us. We kind of expected to bunk down before the fire or in a hayloft, but our mysteriously gracious host has given us a room, and this bed, and thereâs only two of us in this bed.
ryuu has some food allergy and he just doesn't know it's a food allergy because he just went oh well, that food is weird I guess! and it comes up in random conversation, like when he looked at the dome and was like "it's looks like an onion! I don't like onions btw". they're just looking at trees or something and susato is commenting how nice it is that it's summer and all the trees have leaves on them and ryuu's like "oh yes, they look like giant broccoli! I wonder if they're as spicy as broccoli as well" and susato is just staring at him like. what.
The wizardposting trend feels a bit too specific to "the D&D 5th Edition character class known as Wizard" and/or "Merlin from T.H. White's The Once And Future King" to really reel me in. The wizardposting doesn't encompass nearly enough odinposting and/or solomonposting, imo. To say nothing of vÀinÀmöinenposting.
