Every time I restart my 5k training there are a few things I forgot. Things like how much I hate that one particular Zombies! Run! Training Ep where they say you'll be running for 4 minutes and 6 minutes later you're still running and you haven't heard anything and they're basically lying liars. Other things I forget though, that are probably more important, are things like how the weather can severely effect my run for the day. If it's hot and there's no breeze I run out of energy a lot quicker. Also, how it's okay to not do as well on your third day of the week as you did on your first and second. It's always a bit of a learning curve but that's okay. Today marks the end of week 3!
Tuesdays look like this. 5am starts and city views. Reminding myself that this whole running thing gets easier the more I do it.
Back on the Wagon
Losing weight and getting fit is hard. Especially in the first few months. Back in August/September I tried to get back into running and weights. I was okay for two weeks but then depression hit me rather hard and then I started a full time job which I needed to adapt to the routine of. Now I'm starting to get myself ready for next year when I will be working full time, studying law part time online, and working casually at my other job. So I'm getting into some good habits including getting up early to exercise and study. So watch this space. Hopefully there aren't as many roadblocks in my way between now and when I start uni at the end of Feb and I can get into a good routine. Wish me luck and keep me accountable!!!
The latest in Sacha's soccer injuries... that synthetic grass is an unforgiving son of a bitch.
This was taken 20 mins after it hit me. It's slowly starting to go down but it's gonna bruise...
So it's the final week of social sport for the year! 😢 After Sunday I have nothing until February/March when uni starts back after summer break. So, it's important to make the most of these final games. Tonight we played my final volleyball game of the year. It was also my favourite! We lost the first set 25-5. Second set we were the comeback kids! We won 25-21. The final set was looking grim. It was 9-14. Match point to the other team. And then, like the underdogs we are, we made a magnificent comeback and won by 2 points. 17-15. Sunday is the final soccer game and then Tuesday is social sports break up night. Free food, free alcohol, and, of it's anything like last semesters, a lot of pool! Now I just need to find something to do in the break!!!
NOTE TO SELF: BUY SHIN PADS!! I got to play two games of soccer today! My team and I have an arrangement that whenever we're up by 4 points I come out of goals and play defence (because I rarely get to run around the field) and just as we scored that goal today, the game ended. So I decided to play as a sub for a team that needed more girls. (My team won 5-1 in case you were wondering). I don't generally wear shin pads cause I have fat calves and it's hard to find ones that fit but damn, did I need them today. Someone basically stomped down my shin and I have a lovely bruise forming and two long lines down my leg. They're not bad but the bruise will hurt tomorrow. Funny thing is, I didn't even realise it until about ten minutes after it happened. It could've been worse. One guy twisted his ankle cause the pitch is so shitty and another guy got hit in the groin and went down so...
Losing and leg cramps
So we lost our Volleyball game last Thursday. Quite spectacularly I might add. The winning streak couldn’t last forever and a lot of the team were getting cocky, saying things like “we can’t lose”. As soon as that was said in the group chat I knew we were going to be absolutely destroyed and we were. The team that beat us started the game with 3 players and didn’t even have 6 players until the final serve of the second set… So yeah, we got our asses whooped.
But that’s fine. I like that our team has the sentiment of we win as a team, we lose as a team. After the game we all walked to the city (3-ish km) for dinner and then a few of use continued walking another 2-3km.
Today I went for my run though and my calves, especially my right one, were killing me. Running didn’t hurt much but the walking part of the walk/run drills in my training were so incredibly painful. I’m pretty sure I limped most of them and I most definitely swore and grimaced a lot.i still did 5km and in under 50 mins which is right where I should be so I’m proud of myself!
We don’t have a bath (much to my annoyance) so I rubbed some Epsom salts on my legs in the shower and I’ve put some deep heat (bengay) on then to try and help them release before I go to soccer tomorrow afternoon.
And then, after soccer, instead of going to the gym, I’m going to a Pentatonix concert that my friend and I bought tickets to back in May. Very exciting. It’s been over two years since I went to a concert that I wasn’t working. Get pumped!
But if anyone has any great ideas to help with leg cramping, please send them my way! Cause tonight was insane!!!
Today o started week 3 of 5k training and broke the 5k mark in 45 mins! Go me! I also ran at night through Brisbane which I might make a habit of especially with summer coming up. And if my housemate is working she can drive me home (or I can just catch the ferry). I'm sore and tired and I have a tight timeframe to get from work to volleyball tomorrow but it will be fine! Also, I got an awesome new running/workout jacket from Aldi. It fits and it's super comfy so yay! No more getting sick for me! No sirry bob. And with that I'm going to go to bed because I'm tired and have work in the morning!
#winning
We won our soccer game last night, 2-1. It was a good game. Last semester this team steamrolled us but we've grown and improved and we were able to take them down. The team we were versing were getting a bit aggressive and aggravated towards the end, to the point where the subs didn't even come into the field after the game to shake hands. 3 members of my team (myself included) walked over to them on the opposite side of the field. I want out team to be known as a team that can kick your ass but one that will be nice about it. I'm proud of our sportsmanship and integrity. In more personal news, my running is improving slowly. My distance and pace was a personal best (in terms of this round of training). Additionally I've been cooking more and tonight I made enough that I have leftovers for lunch for the next two days. Yay me.

Another volleyball victory!
3rd game, 3rd win! They're moving us up to the "big leagues" next week... By that I mean they've got us versing more experienced teams so I'm not really expecting this streak to last too long. They took a photo of us today so once they've uploaded that I'll post it here just because I can. In other news, I was back in the gym today after 2 days off because of a cold. It really knocked me down on Tuesday and I couldn't have done strength training if I wanted to. I could barely walk and the short trip to the grocery store resulted in a 2 hour nap. Then I had yesterday off running just to be safe. I'm on the mend now, lots of vitamin C, water, and rest. Tomorrow it's back to running (with legs that I believe are probably going to be super sore from today) and then some board games in the evening!
So this photo was from last week but still. We're the blue team... Plus the two people standing either side of me who couldn't find their blue shirts (a likely story)! Today was a draw: 2-2 after we scored a goal in the last 30 seconds! I also jarred my ring finger on my left hand during warm up (so no one propose this week alright?) and the deflected ball hit one of my team members in the face (sorry bro). But it was a really fun, intense game and I'm proud of our performance!
Also a side note.
I'm the only female at the gym on a Saturday night. Even Thursday night I was the only female doing weights. Relearning to not be self conscious and mind my own business and hope everyone else will do the same
My body is constantly reminding me how much those first few weeks of gym hurt... And I'm on day 3. I haven't dropped out yet though! Tomorrow is my "day off". The quotation marks are because while I'm not gymming or running I do have a soccer game and then some yoga afterwards. That being said I play goalie so it's not a highly active day. I'll post the game results and probably a team pic or two tomorrow night.
