Dude, the runners high I just hit? I'm gonna make that 5k my bitch.
I remember her, I just want to go back and tell her how much I love her then and now. She deserved better, more safety, so many other things she needed.
Been a while since my last check-in. Still running and training In “maintenance” mode, but since I can't stay motivated without some type of target, I signed up for a 5K race on 7/22. That's a Wednesday night, but I've run this race many times as a member of the DC Roadrunners Club, so it's not a big deal. As long as we don't still have 100° temperatures, it will be fine.
As for today, the heat wave conditions pushed me to the pool, where I had a good workout of 1300 yards. Sometimes you have to adapt and this worked for me. Saturday’s long run will have to be an early affair though. I will be ready.
My first 5k race!!
Placed 390 out of almost a thousand people and 54th in my age/gender division! I didn't beat a sub 30 but my chip time was 32:15 so I'm calling that a huge win considering I started running 5 months ago 😄
I'm really glad I did a practice run of the course since I knew to slow my roll going into the hill in the 3rd km that took a bunch of people out lol Didn't stop to walk and ran the whole way!
Oh and saw 2 great blue herons flying over the river!
Celebrated with chocolate chip pancakes and now I need a nap 😅
We're so back!!
The past month has been brutal for calf and shin pain and I haven't been able to get past 2.5km without my legs cramping up. So I've been focusing on weights and strength training and have been cycling to work when the weather isn't stupid cold.
But today. Today I ran 5k for the first time in over a month and I feel amazing! My treadmill doesn't have a distance function (she's old and heavy but runs like a dream) and my fitbit gps hates the treadmill - check that 31' pace 😂 but 5k is in the realm of 5400 steps for me so I made it, even if I don't know my exact time.
We went up THE HILL today! We only walked up it but we did run 2 minutes, walk 1 minute (R2W1) to get to the hill. We ended up doing 3 miles today but we walked mostly all of it after the hill. I want to keep doing the same route so hopefully we can get to a point where we can run the whole thing! I think it’s a great idea!
I tried to get a picture of how tall the hill is but it doesn’t show up well on camera. Also those are our shoes! We have these awesome show lights that we bought at my work and it makes me feel so much safer running at night.
Oh and I got a new sports bra!! I am in love with it!! I never thought I would like front zip sports bras but it is so supportive and amazing! 10/10
I told myself I was going to run the Wizard Run 5k, rain or shine. Boy, did the universe test my discipline!
It POURED for 90% of my run. Soggy & tired, but I did it! 🙂
