I hate glamorizing over-working. It’s not healthy. The fact that there are so many people going without sleep, food, personal hygiene (not to mention time for relaxation, personal time, and socialization, which are very necessary for mental health) just to stay afloat is not something to be celebrated or applauded. It’s a problem, not a goal that all good employees should aspire to, or a norm everyone should be expected to perform.

Just got back from the Wednesday 13 show! Had a chance to meet Kimberly Freeman from One-Eyed Doll and she's the sweetest, most adorable little cinnamon roll I've ever had the pleasure of talking to. (Had the writing itch for the first time in a long time this morning when I was trying to fall asleep and this is what came out. I don’t normally share such personal stuff but I figure I might as well. Maybe someone can take something from it.)

It’s so hard to take stock Of what parts of me are really me And what parts are you. What parts were born from you. It’s on sleepless nights just like this one that I struggle to file away nature And nurture Into a box full of pointless garbage. Even I can appreciate the subtle irony Because you were never one for nurturing; except to prune The sun from the shining heads of Black-eyed Susans– You never expected that I would grow back each and every time, Out of spite alone. A garden fertilized by piss and vinegar. I don’t resent you. How can I, when you made me what I am? Untamable. Unsinkable. Undeniable, how you’ve cursed me with broken body and broken mind. But never broken spirit. No, your arms, Your mouth, would never open wide enough To suck the sun from the sky.
