Stats from yesterday's run! Sorry peeps, this'll be the only time you see it in kilometers. Figured out how to switch it to miles afterward.
Okay! Things went a little quiet there for a bit because I went on a road trip. I’ve officially gone from Maine to Georgia, but there are still a few states in between that I skipped over or because I didn’t do anything except drive through them. Ultimately I’d like to visit all 50 states and have had some sort of memorable experience in each one. ANYWAY I met with a personal trainer today! She was very nice and we talked a lot about my goals, figured out my actual body fat percentage (which wasn’t bad but could be better). We discussed my diet and went over some options for how to improve it. Basically I’m not getting enough protein or fresh greens and just... Well, I’m not the best vegetarian. You can still be a vegetarian and have a garbage diet. Another big problem with what I’ve been eating is that I don’t eat often enough. According to her, I should be eating 5-6 small meals a day, which will help boost my metabolism. So, as homework for myself, I’ve gone on and used one of my many spare notebooks to keep a food journal. I’m going to try to write down what I eat every day (Not ingredients or calories, just general overarching “what this is”. I don’t want to fall into calorie counting, I just want to eat better). I might post my food journal entries up here as well, for further accountability. I also found a nifty meal plan grocery list that keeps everything really simple and tells me exactly what to buy, so I’m hoping with that guiding me I’ll be able to make better decisions. So the rules right now are as follows: 1. 5-6 small meals a day. 2. No more energy drinks. 3. Eat the rainbow (fruits and greens) 4. Supplement with plant based protein shake as needed. 5. Keep it simple, complicated recipes might deter me from following the plan right now. 6. Drink more water. Add lemon since citrus can actually increase your ability to absorb iron, and I’m chronically anemic. Tomorrow’s going to be all about the workout plan, so I’m excited to see where this goes! (I’m sure it’s going to kick my butt, but my butt needs kicking).
Slightly late update! Went bouldering for the first time in five years yesterday and enjoyed the HECK out of it. I forgot how much fun that is to do! Today I went to the gym again and did a random assortment of cardio and weights without any real rhyme or reason. BUT, I managed to get a schedule for what classes will be available to me over the next few weeks and I found a number that I’m really interested in trying. Also, the personal trainer who’s going to work with me (Only for a session or two) is going to help me figure out what to do to reach my personal goals. She’s also a vegetarian too so she’ll be able to help me structure my diet in a better way as well. Lots of steps in the right direction! Oh, and I have a girlfriend now. ;) She’s sweet and amazing and wonderful and funny and UGH she’s the best.
First gym results! So, fun story. Registered for a Barre class at the gym, spent the entire morning talking myself into going, finally went, couldn’t figure out where the class was, was too shy to ask for help, hopped on an elliptical to “run away from the problem”. I did eventually ask someone that worked there for help after I finished this little running session and she was super nice! She was very enthusiastic about helping me and gave my information to a personal trainer at the gym so that I could have a training session to figure out what the heck I’m doing, and she showed me where the classes should be. So all in all, fairly successful morning!
A Self Improvement Blog
Alright, here we go. I’ve finally reached a point where I feel like I’m capable of making some really important, positive changes in my life. My job isn’t NEARLY as stressful as it once was, therapy has been helping me immensely, and I’ve started a wonderful relationship with a wonderful lady. So, time to kick the habit of laziness and procrastination and start working on the things that I want to improve most about myself. I’m hoping to use this blog to try and hold myself accountable and to keep track of the goals that I set for myself. Honestly, what you’ll see here is genuinely going to be all over the place. I’m wanting to improve my diet, work out more and achieve specific fitness goals, do more crafts, do more art, start a side business, write a book, travel to more places, meet new people, volunteer, read more, be more organized, learn to keep a tidier house, learn to invest, make better financial decisions, get out of student debt, and so much more. So if any of that stuff interests you and if you’re into watching a total newbie struggling with projects, feel free to follow. :P I’ll try to update with a list of short term goals and challenges for myself later today. So be patient with me and let’s jump in on a whole new experience.
