Oh hey, all you Library-Loving Libby users out there. A piece of advice for you. Go to your search engine of choice and type in “[your local library] reciprocal agreements”.
Might pull up nothing, but chances are there are somewhere between two and seven other Library systems in your state that you can get a card at perfectly legitimately simply by applying for one with your current address and proof of having an active card at your local library. You can then log into Libby with these and use them even if you never manage to go to a physical building of that library. (Though you should take advantage of the physical library too if you can) Some of them might have significantly larger or at least different ebook/audiobook collections for you.
Yes and!
There's a website (https://reciprocard.com/) that will pull up this info if you put in your hometown library, and gives you a link to apply to the different libraries. Sometimes you don't even need to apply. My library is in a consortium that just uses my card to cover all the other libraries. I use the same card number.
Your results page also lists some libraries that will let you get a non-resident card, usually for a yearly fee. (Frex, I decided it was a way better use of my precious dollars to get a Queens Public Library card for a year than to pay for that streamer I never watch anything on.)
late summer / early fall thoughts
if you live in {Not USA} and you make a tumblr post even slightly referencing what time it is where you live you will literally always have to deal with the "lucky 10 thousand" who dont fucking know what a time zone is
some people live places where summer autumn winter and spring do not exist like they do in the northern and southern hemispheres. which is why those tags say "not northern hemisphere". to include people who live on the equator. welcome to the lucky 10 thousand!
hi hi! I understand your scepticism, but I lived Here for half a decade:
and nnno we don't call it "winter" when it's december even though we're TECHNICALLY in the northern hemisphere. because it is 35+ degrees during december and 35+ degrees during july and 35+ degrees every other time of the year as well. so it doesn't really make sense to reference the typical northern/southern seasons when you live right on the equator!
we DO reference seasons as a CONCEPT but it wasn't summer/autumn/winter/spring. it was wet season/dry season. that's it.
a ton of people have unexpectedly followed me over the last 2 days so here is my rent-lowering gunshot:
the american south is the most racially diverse and poorest region of the united states, and any political sentiment that treats the south is stupid or expendable is inherently racist and classist. a lot of y'all are racist and classist. the south is also the heart of american culture. argue with a wall. you cannot deny that everybody in the entire world does not emulate artists from atlanta. there is vested interest in keeping the south poor and uneducated BECAUSE this is the most racially diverse region in this country. if you actually give a fuck about progress, you would fight for the south, not mock us.
they told me not to get lost in the weeds, but these are lush, beautiful, and ecologically necessary native plants so it's probably fine

"grackle" really is a perfect name for a bird. knocked it out of the park w/ that one
the only “data centers” we need are public libraries
