It's a good thing I have AAA because I'm about to break down
My AP Government field trip to The Capitol was actually a lot more fun than I thought it’d be. Field Trip to The Capitol We got to be part of the gallery in the senate today. Senator Grassley was talking about many homeland security issues and touched on things like missing FBI texts, and release the memo. Also, nothing boosted my self esteem more than when my friend told me (while we were in the room where McCulloch v Maryland, and Dred Scott v Sanford) that one day that’s going to be you (in reference to me becoming a lawyer)
Some more super low quality photos of E.Coli colonies (especially visible in the first photo even though those were conditions it was not supposed to grow under) Basically, my class genetically engineered E.Coli with Pglo, so that, in essence, the E.Coli would uptake the naked DNA and thus glow.... (it was more complicated than that but tbh I didn't understand half of it, and was preoccupied with trying ti not get E.Coli)but I'm pretty sure the people running the lab totally botched it and mislabeled something because the wrong ones grew, and the wrong ones fluoresced but oh well, it was still fun. 1-19-18/1-22-18
My lab tech forgot to tell security that she was expecting me and she’s in meetings all morning so….so much for working. While I’m sitting here like an idiot, here’s some pictures I took while looking at a sample of cyathus, or birds nest fungi, yesterday.
My teacher just compared abortion to holocaust. And most people in my class agreed that abortion is a definite no. And I just...I'm so angry, I don't understand how people can think like that

But the 8-hour workday is too profitable for big business, not because of the amount of work people get done in eight hours (the average office worker gets less than three hours of actual work done in 8 hours) but because it makes for such a purchase-happy public. Keeping free time scarce means people pay a lot more for convenience, gratification, and any other relief they can buy. It keeps them watching television, and its commercials. It keeps them unambitious outside of work. We’ve been led into a culture that has been engineered to leave us tired, hungry for indulgence, willing to pay a lot for convenience and entertainment, and most importantly, vaguely dissatisfied with our lives so that we continue wanting things we don’t have. We buy so much because it always seems like something is still missing.

Honestly using this next time an adult complains about my generation being lazy and wanting everything exactly when we want it.
Homemade Riced Cauliflower (12 cal per ½ cup)
I decided to try my hand at making my own riced cauliflower since I had a bunch at home, and it turned out so delicious I’m proud of myself!! I used part of my cauliflower head for my mashed cauliflower recipe, so this one yielded about 1 ½ cups. Green giant sells frozen riced cauliflower (which is so delicious), so if you do not have time to make your own, that is always an option. Theirs is only 10 calories per ½ cup and it contains slightly more protein, vitamin c, calcium and iron, but there is more sodium, and carbs to theirs. In general the differences are minimal.
Ingredients:
1 cauliflower head
Process:
Separate cauliflower florets and chop off the stems
Place in blender or food processor and pulse/chop until you get a grainy, rice consistency
Transfer to pan to fry (I used a minimal amount of coconut oil, but you can use other kinds or butter)
Fry, stirring frequently, until soft and some of the cauliflower browns
Add optional seasoning (I prefer turmeric and a bit of sea salt)
Serve and enjoy!

Biologists from the University of Tübingen have demonstrated that plants can choose between alternative competitive responses according to the stature and densities of their opponents. A new study by researchers from the Institute of Evolution and Ecology reveals that plants can evaluate the competitive ability of their neighbors and optimally match their responses to them. The results were published in Nature Communications.

That old vintage smell :)
Today’s daily cartoon by Peter Kuper.
Here’s some super low quality photos of onion root tip. Root tips are what allow a plant to grow throughout the entire lifespan, both up (branches, leaves, limbs etc.) and down (roots). The reason it is able to do so is because this portion of the plant is abundant in a group of stem cells called meristematic cells. In the above photos, you can differentiate between the cells in interphase, and the mitotic cells by looking for chromosomes. The cells in interphase look like regular cells, only enlarged, with two nuclei instead of one, and possibly even a cleavage furrow. The ‘mitotic’ cells look like they have stripes all over them, those are the enlarged chromosomes lining up at the metaphase plate preparing for division.
Current obsession. Tbh is never heard of her until Spotify’s “I’m with the banned” This movement spotify sponsored honestly touched my heart so much… just really shows how impossible it is to create true and infinite borders. People will always find a way to be somewhere even if they are unwanted. In this case, that was accomplished by music… they may have been banned physically but pieces of them will still be able to cross over into America. The will of a person filled with good intention is so much stronger than any border designed to inhibit the flow of ideas.
Notice how liberals tend to be the hipster, alternative type people, who listen to weird music? Funny thinking about that music is that its more human. You can feel the person singing it, whereas pop feels detatched, inhuman. Maybe libs are so sensitive because they're still in touch with their humanity.
Rihanna’s impact
Glad to know this is our future.
