I used to know nursing was for me. I applied for school and was so excited. Then I didn't get in and was so upset but knew there was a reason and that I would reapply in the spring. Well a month later I got a call that I got in. I was ecstatic. My life was gonna go as planned and I was finally gonna be a nurse. But now I'm in week two of school and since orientation I've just bee having doubts. Some days are good then others I'm just unsure. I don't want to waste their time and mine if it isn't
Hihi! It's only two weeks in and the first year is usually hardest with transition just because it's more textbook work and sooooo much theory. The way I see it, your money is already gone and regardless if you stop now or finish the semester/year, that money won't be returned to you. So, you have to decide whether or not you want to at least get your money's worth. Honestly, even the most devout nurses have these doubts - before, during and after school. I'm several years into my career and I still have doubts. The reason I stuck it out in school is because I knew how versatile the nursing career is after graduation. There's so many specialties, environments and rolss that nurses can work in. If someone doesn't like one, they can always try something different. For example, I just went from a rehabilitation hospital to an acute hospital, from mental health to stroke/telemetry (not by choice, but that's another story). So, vastly different populations, diagnoses, prognoses etc. Previously I've worked in emergency medical insurance - once again, very different from what I've done after. However, that's me and things can be different for you. The main things to consider with nursing is: do you want to work with the body? Do you want to care for people? Obviously, there's more to nursing than just those two questions, but, that's the heart of it. If you can say yes to these questions, then maybe nursing is for you. Like I mentioned before, it has the versatility to adapt to different people's niches, interests, etc.My advice (and, of course, you should meet with your academic advisor and trusted support system -- family, friends, whatever -- and who am I to give you advice, really, I'm just a stranger on tumblr lol) is to finish off the semester or year, whatever you've paid for thus far, because, even if you stop afterwards, the credits can go towards whatever you choose to do instead (check with academic advisor if this is plausible).Whatever you decide, just make sure it's so you'll be happy, not someone else. Hope this helps, even just a bit. ^_^Take care!
