Nerdy Fact #1434: Wonder Woman was originally based on two women: the wife of creator William Marston and one of his former students that both he and his wife had sexual encounters with.Â
(Source.)
How about you actually name âem?
Elizabeth Holloway Marston and Olive Byrne were among a number of women who contributed to the original Wonder Woman, and theyâre fascinating people in their own right.
Elizabeth Holloway Marston was a brilliant woman. She earned three university degrees in psychology and law at a time when few women received any tertiary education. She was a successful career woman who assisted her husband with his work and was frequently the breadwinner of the family.
The main reason she was able to continue working after having children? Olive Byrne, who was not simply a casual âsexual encounterâ, but the Marstonsâ lover and life partner. To enable Elizabeth to work, Olive stayed at home and raised both her and Elizabethâs children. She also wrote for Family Circle and contributed to Marstonâs research.
Elizabeth is credited with pushing her husband to create a female superhero, and after his death she worked hard to preserve his vision for the character, urging DC to employ her as the comicâs editor (she was ignored).
Wonder Womanâs braceletâs are Oliveâs bracelets: Olive was known for wearing a pair of wide silver bracelets, and Marston had these in mind when he envisioned Dianaâs bullet-deflecting accessories.
Marston died in 1947, but Elizabeth and Olive continued to live together until the end of their lives.
Wait. Clarification please. Are you telling me that the creator of Wonder WOMAN WAS IN A POLY-AMOROUS RELATIONSHIP?
Yep! They were in a poly relationship and had four children together, two by Elizabeth and two by Olive.
(And for those whoâve asked about sources, the Marstonsâ story is covered in detail in The Secret History of Wonder Woman by Jill Lepore and Wonder Woman: The Complete History by Les Daniels)
Wonder Woman was inspired and shaped by not only a man who was incredibly progressive and awesome by todays standards let alone the standards of the day he lived in but also by a fierce, intelligent and awesome bisexual woman
This is one of the many reasons why the ways DC has ruined Wonder Woman in their pursuit of making the book as backwards and heteronormative as possible pisses me offâŠ
Not a fierce and intelligent and awesome bisexual woman.
Two fierce and intelligent and awesome bisexual women.Â
You are correct :D
Imagine growing up in that house
âMom wants to see you.â
âPsychology mom or bracelet mom?â
âBracelet mom.â
According to Lepore, the kids called Elizabeth âKeetieâ and Olive âDotsieâ!
That is adorable.
I have reblogged this before and will continue to do it until the day I die. The origin story of WW comics is as fucking great as the character herself.
Fun fact: Oliveâs bracelets were a gift from William and Elizabeth, and were basically an alternative to a wedding ring, since she couldnât legally marry them. Dianaâs bracelets, 70+ years later, are a symbol of that relationship.
Another fun fact: Thereâs a movie coming out about their relationship, starring Luke Evans and Rebecca Hall and Bella Heathcote that was written AND directed by a woman (Angela Robinson)
classic
yoooo I missed this video
This girl is so amazing, I love her with all my soul y'all have no idea
Abstinence-only-until-marriage programs are statistically ineffective. Studies show they reinforce gender stereotypes, undermine public health programs, violate adolescent human rights by withholding accurate medical information, and they donât actually delay sexual activity. Source Source 2
did i ever tell you guys about that time i gave my sister 2000 nickels for her birthday
special ordered them from the bank
nice to know that in a world full of change, tumblr still has no idea how numbers work

@ you weebs
2,000/10=200
Two hundred dollar power move
#Math is literally the only thing i have going for me  #Itâs my bragging right  #Even Gaud canât take that away
You divided by 10. 10 is for dimes
Y'all. 2,000 nickels is $400. 2,000Ă·5. It equals $400.
iâm crying. no, no it doesnât
the answers keep getting worse better
Guys itâs 50$.
what the hell.
honey no
This post is getting progressively worse and I love it with a passionÂ
I have no idea how much a nickel is in actual money
So, if a nickel is five cents, you gotta do 2,000*5 to get 10,000 cents. Then 10,000/100 to convert cents to dollars. It's 100 dollars. Right? I'm not stupid, right?
I was waiting for the night bus at 1am the other night, eating fries, when a dude, high as fuck, tried to harass me. It took several âI donât want to talk to you, please go awayâ for him to finally move, but I think it helped that another man was giving him the death stare and clicking his tongue at him. He then checked I was okay and whether I knew the guy or not. Good dude.
Shout out also the man who silently switched places with me on another night bus to be a buffer between me and a guy who had threatened me. Thank you
Men: this here? This here is what you need to be doing as allies. The men who harass and insult women are not likely to take our complaints about it seriously. But you, another man, they will listen to.Â
I was pumping gas at like 10 PM one night, and these bunch of drunk guys came walking up to the gas station, and one of them yelled over to me if I wanted to see his dick. His friend says to him, âYou donât have anything she wants to see.â and apologized. It was pretty awesome.
this is all we want from men. to recognize the wrongs done by other men, and acknowledge it. not give us shitass defense like, ânot all men do thatâ
Who wants to know about how I got charged with assault on Halloween
Depression-era gangster John Dillinger survived a shootout with the FBI, escaped from jail with a wooden gun, robbed police stations, had plastic surgery to change his face and remove his fingerprints, and led the government on a year-long chase that cost them 4 times the amount he had ever stolen. Seeing you like this makes me think Iâm more than lucky. I know you joke about being a dumbass but in quiet moments like this it shines how fast you think, how smart you are, how funny. I get lost, get left behind, linger only for those eyes and that gleam behind them. That shy intelligence. I never get tired of hearing you talk. God, youâre clever. Youâre all that I want.

The ampersand used to be the 27th letter of the alphabet. To avoid confusion with the word âandâ, people added âper seâ before its name when reciting the alphabet so that it ended: X, Y, Z, and per se &. Over time, the âand per se andâ ran together, and the term 'ampersandâ was born. Source
