Robbie never married Robert’s mother. He liked her, she was brave, determined, and independent, qualities he admired, sure, but he didn’t love her. There simply wasn’t room in his life for love when the Mechaman legacy mattered more. She knew that and was okay with it. She liked him too: he was strong, disciplined and charismatic, he wasnt really caring but had his good moments… and they both wanted to have a child… So why not? It didn’t matter to her that he never looked at her with love.
Besides, it wasn’t as if she ever fully opened up to him either. She never told Robbie that she came from a fox-hybrid family, nor that she herself was the anomaly in that family, a hybrid who never manifested fox traits. What were the chances their child would be born fully hybrid? (Im going to work more on this later, but I think that as in canon, Robert’s mother is not present in his life)
Mechaman is a “normal man,” and Robbie made it very clear from an early age that to carry on the legacy, Robert had to learn how to "be normal” and ignore his hybrid side. Robert can manifest his hybrid traits at will, but he only reveals them outside the suit, when he isnt Mechaman. But even then -over the last 15 years- what has Robert been, if not just Mechaman?
As an SDN dispatcher, he showed his fox traits to blend in and go unnoticed and that’s how the Z-team met him. When they discovered his hero identity he unconsciously began hiding his hybrid traits again, confusing and worrying them because that is very clearly not healthy.

Sonar -as a hybrid himself- doesnt understand why Robert would hide such an important part of himself. (In this AU, he and Robert are a bit closer than in canon thanks to Sonar’s interest in meeting another "hybrid pal"). Sonar confronts him but he isn’t good at heavy conversations, he wants to help, but his concern is easily mistaken for anger.

y’all know how fast babies grow? Yeah, to sonar that doesn’t mater. A suit for every size range. Little girl has to look her best. The ties are clip on ofc though, if you think either parent will let a choking hazard anywhere near their kid you’re mental, these guys linger on the edge of paranoid always.

Either one, he's a really fussy baby and IS always upset
Or two, he's one of those babies that always LOOK upset but they're having the time of their lives. Issa is warm and happy and he has his Baba but he just looks like that one kitten with its face drenched in milk. Always.

it's a bit of both, but mostly the former. he's a sensitive little soul and vv clingy, and particularly 'spoiled' in the way that chad and robert 'indulge' all the times he wants to be held.
naptime? he's cradled in the crook of an arm. chad or rob busy doing paperwork or chores? he's sitting in his sling watching it all happen. the whole 'let him cry it out' strategy doesn't exist with issa because robert or chad (especially chad) will go and pick him up even in the ungodly hours of the morning

Baby bats sleep A LOT. 18-20 hours in the first four weeks (roughly). I’m headcannoning this translates to first 4-6 months for Harper, but the large amount of sleep probably continues for most of her younger years. I can imagine her just conking out wherever lmao
she would also, however, need to be fed every, like, 4-6 hours bc baby bats tend to be fed every 2-4 hours. (Shhhhhh Don’t question my math guys, I’m an expert don’t worry :) ) Sonar definitely handles night feedings.
baby bats are super clingy and need to be kept warm, so baby wrap it is. Thought it would be super funny to put one on mega bat sonar too.

it’s probably easier for the z-team to hold her while she’s sleeping (given she needs to be wrapped in a blanket that smells like her dads) but they play with her every chance they get when she gets a little bigger. (I’m going to post about that soon)

(I read this right after my nightshift and genuinely wondered why someone was sending me an ask about sonic 😭😭)
but here they are! aoife (carried by colm) and morgan (carried by jan). fraternal twin girls, one of whom robert had no idea about until the day of. Robert still isn't sure which twin was the sneaky one on the sonographs but he adores them both :)
OMG! Robert clearly wasn't having the easiest time, but two adorable girls more than made up for all that sadness.
So, can I just share how I picture Robert's relationships and pregnancy with Colm and Janelle?
1. With two kids already, his body has more demands—he's clearly going to struggle. It seems like from the second trimester on, he needs IV drips. The first couple of times it's done at the hospital, but after that, Janelle takes over (and it's way neater and faster).
2. They have this running joke that the baby will definitely be a redhead—"Irish are the reddest people (damn Vikings)"—even though it's a recessive gene. But looking at all the kids, we've generally noticed that Robert's genes seem way more dominant.
3. They obviously have tons of the cutest dresses (Colm buys them). Someone from z-team I'd give them a Leprechaun costume for the kids, okay?

1. This is true - his body is having more demands but the doctors weren't sure why since all the times they took a look at the baby, they could only ever see one. Robert was already pretty big for the month he was at each checkup and they could only prescribe him extra vitamins and nutrition + bedrest. Jan and Colm would take turns taking time off to take care of Rob in those last several weeks. (I love the idea of Jan doing his IVs 🙂↕️)
The only time they weren't present was when SDN needed the whole team for an important mission. Robert had been feeling weird all morning and decided to check himself in only to have both girls by noon.
2. Colm was so sure that they were having a redhead ever since Rob showed them the positive test strip. He swore up and down about it, tracing back his family tree to show which ancestor was a redhead and saying that it would finally re-emerge in his daughter. Robert would joke it wouldn't happen, because his mother has dark hair (Wasian Rob 🫶), Colm has dark hair, and Jan has dark hair. Then Aoife was born and Colm won the Z-team bet on it.
And then when Morgan followed her sister into the world, Colm turned around and took the winning pot to buy extra supplies.
3. Colm does buy a few, the team gifts a few, but so does Jan. Especially when the girls start showing interest in dance. Tutus and dancing shoes galore, and a swan lake themed first birthday. When they're old enough, Janelle makes sure to pull strings so her darlings can dance to their hearts' content. She and Colm may have taken the instructor and headmaster aside to talk to make this possible. Robert's suspicious about the sudden free ballet tuition.
I am absolutely loving all of this dad Robert content so much! Now I'm curious though, what do you think a Phenomamech baby would look like? Who would they take after? What powers would they have?
I just know Phenomaman is so smitten with how tiny their little one is, he'd be such a sweet father.

Katon-Ur and Robert have a girl! She was quite literally a happy surprise: Rob only found out he was expecting with her very late (around 5mo). As far as newborns go, she was a little more developed than her nursery peers (Robert thinks its the alien genes. It's definitely the alien genes) but she did need a bit of phototherapy when she was born. Otherwise, she's just like her Phenomapapa :)
Imagine if Sonar was devastated when he wasn't allowed to see Robert anymore bc Robbie thought the hybrid family would be a "bad influence" on Robert (Aka acting like the hybrid he is)
And now he has his bro back! And they eat rats together
