Hot take but perhaps Percy Weasley would not have fallen so easily into the clutches of a corrupt ministry, eager for approval and recognition, if he had not spent his entire formative years being mocked and ridiculed by the people who were supposed to love him

pettigrew reveal opinions rambles except i also rant about his portrayal in the tags 🙏

my favourite kinda thing in fanfic pettigrew reveals is making pettigrew extremely unsettling or unstable, a healthy dose of drama with violence, like yes, i want the character to struggle, pettigrew would obviously attempt to kill them (probably through strangulation, he has no wand), and the character fighting back. especially when its a student, because the tension between wondering how they’re going to be able to overpower a grown man twice their size is so peak

ive read the weasley red hair being compared to lily potter in fanfic, and i think the idea of pettigrew being somewhat delirious in panic mistaking the weasley (this would probably work only with percy, maybe ginny as well, ive seen a fic somewhere where he calls percy lily its so peak) that exposed him for some illusion of lily potter and tweaking out about how she should be dead and then attempting to kill “her” but also having a mental breakdown (because there’s no way he doesn’t feel immense residual guilt, but the guilt is never enough to stop him in the face of his cowardice) would also be a pretty neat concept

i also enjoy when they really amp up the insanity/unhinged nature of pettigrew, especially once he no longer can act innocent and hurls tons of threats and says extremely awful things when exposed— like YES, pettigrew is SO creepy, not only in appearance but also the fact that he was a pet rat for CHILDREN for so many years.

it’s because of that that i find ron and percy revealing pettigrew in fanfictions much more impactful/entertaining than any other character (though there’s tons of emotional potential for remus/sirius too) because they’re the ones who have kept pettigrew as their pet

like the concept of pettigrew shouting and demeaning percy using percy’s moments of vulnerability when he ranted to scabbers without knowing better because he knows where to hit to make it HURT

and the other characters reactions to this as well, god its so good, especially if its the other weasleys being super worried and disgusted (i love when writers make it that when percy finds out he is instantly protective over ron and feels so much guilt for giving him scabbers without even paying attention to the effects it has on him, because YES, percy above all would find the fact that he could’ve accidentally hurt ron to be so much worse than anything that happened to him)

i drew the concept if you catch my drift, unsettling pettigrew is so peak (i couldnt decide which version i prefer). this may also be how the revealing pettigrew early goes in my time travel fix-it viktor and percy au im working on??

the marauders didn't just always "mess around" they literally learned very difficult and illegal magic just so Remus wouldn't have to go through those nights alone.

the fact that some people still think of sophie as "dramatic" or "sensitive" when she got taken away from her home by a guy she barely knows. And is told that she's not human and feeling like she doesnt belong in both the human and elven world. HER ENTIRE EXISTENCE WAS TIED TO SOME UNETHICAL EXPIREMENT. And she had to leave her family and all she's known. And even though shes formed deep attachments to new people, she still fears losing them.

She's repeatedely targeted and been kidnapped and trapped so many times throughout the series. Plus she's blamed for situations that are bigger than her control and deals with anxiety, fear of failure and guilt a lot - pretty much in every book.

dumbeldore was honestly such a shit headmaster, like i get that his character is "morally grey" and both in the right and wrong in different occassions. But he was raised to face death without being told of that until way later, and was constantly put in danger instead of being protected at a pretty young age. HE WAS 11 and very newly introduced to the magical world when he had to face Voldemort in Philosophers Stone. Kids shouldnt be solving problems that adults were meant to handle, even if it is fated.

And he clearly favoured Gryffindor over the houses, especially slytherin who was repeatedly shown as "evil" and dumbeldore didnt fix that perspective - which allowed a toxic house bias.

The school was also repeatedly unsafe with monsters and curses and secrets over safety. Also with the fact when in CoS students were literally getting ATTACKED and he still didnt close the school down [ i dont rlly rmbr if he tried to or if he delayed it but ik it was still open after penelope and colin got petrified] which in no situation would be a good decision

crime that we never got a percy weasley reaction to the fact that his childhood pet which hes probably had for much longer than turned out to be a fucking full grown adult. And nobody asked how he was feeling, like no wonder he left.

I hc that percys actually not a pompous prick. He's just better at hiding stuff than the twins.

- he has the the stuck up rule following (voice??? Idk how else to describe it) because he smokes and needs to hide the rasp. So ofc he chooses the most over the top way to.

- he always dresses fully covered. And if he even wears shorts or a t shirt it's basically a strip tease. And thats bc he has tattoos. And there's NO WAY Molly's ever finding that out.

- and his job during school was an accountant at an underground fighting club ( this ideas from a fic on ao3 called "The Secrets Of Percy Weasley by SoFrBoe" genuinely soo good.) And yeah he definitely sparred there.

- hes also a vegetarian idk it just makes sense to me that this was the reason he wouldn't eat dinner at the great hall since the only thing he can basically eat over there is salad (and he doesn't want to be victim to Ron's terrible table manners)

- also, he still does like school and wants to get good grades. He probably believes it's stupid to think otherwise.

- percy would probably would push his glasses up before destroying someone completely. Cause he knows how odd it looks when he does it with a straight face and all, but it's funny to him.

- he can forge anyone's signature.

- he has that prefect voice trademarked. Its probably more scarier than molly's.
