the goldfinch movie adaptation obviously sucked massive balls but aneurin barnard knew exactly what he was doing as adult boris i’ll never forget the look on his face in the scene where theo tells him that he took conversational russian in college because it reminded him of boris… that slow dawning realization that you have influenced someone in a way entirely outside of your control and that you have still existed as a very alive and insistent entity in the back of his mind all these years without your knowledge. he looked like he’d been hit or gotten the wind knocked out of him or something. wow. that shitshow of a film was almost worth it for that one moment

The skeleton of a young girl, about 14 years old, was found in a room [in Pompeii] holding an eleven-month-old baby in her arms. The infant was adorned with bronze ornaments, which shows it belonged to the higher classes. The girl cannot be the mother, since she was still in her prepubertal phase. Moreover she clearly did not belong to the upper class. An analysis of her teeth reveals that she had been severely ill or undernourished in the first year of her life. Various molars displayed abscesses and shortly before her death a few teeth had been extracted. Her shoulder muscles bore traces of unremitting physical effort caused by lifting heavy weights. Most probably, Bisel concludes, she was a slave girl who was given the care of the baby by her master, unfit for other tasks, as she was worn down by hard labor.

Upright piano made by John Osborne of Boston, Massachusetts, cased in a mahogany box with turned front legs. The legs are embellished with polished ormolu mounts and cast brass cup casters. Inlay stringing and two small marquetry fish in contrasting woods decorate the curved keyboard cover. A modern green silk screen covers the mechanism. Ebony and ivory keys.
