tw: parental death, murder, psychosis, disasociation
ros had always been a creative child - always living in her own world throughout her early childhood and beyond. her parents thought that it was endearing but it would become a problem later on. she would always come out with strange things that were slightly concerning but proved to be of a greater intelligence than her actual age. rosalind wasn't intelligent - not in math or science but when it came to the arts and trying to understand people, she was an absolute pro.
then it came - the survivor's guilt as her parents were lost. she must have been about eight (couldn't quite remember now, it had been so long ago) but she was afraid and evidently upset. she felt like it was her fault because she'd had a dream like this and should have stopped it from happening but she was only a child. eliana would be the one to take her in, to foster her.
rosalind was still a little odd but she latched onto eliana quite well. she'd never lost her creative flair but wasn't making the same progress as her peers as she continued to live in fantasy land. when challenged on it, she'd snap and become tearful so the whole family somehow just left it - it was how she was and if it made her happy to live in a fantasy world away from pain, who were they to stop her?
between bracelet making and reading, rosalind loved the roller skate - it was a past time she'd always gone with her family and she was pretty good at it, fast too... in her hometown, she found a job as an instructor at the roller rink as well as being a volunteer at the art shack. she was happy. her found family didn't allow anything to touch her as they shielded her from the hardships of everything. in reality, ros should have lived in reality gradually but by the time she felt she did, it was too late.
people couldn't protect her from real life for forever and the shielding of her from it caused a catastrophe. rosalind was indeed a ticking timb bomb as she became more and more agitated, fighting with family members like never before, getting emotional and then the same thing happening... she didn't even want to roller skate or go to her volunteer job (though that was due to another incident she swore wasn't in her head but it was becoming difficult to believe her). ros' family knew she needed help - some even tried to speak to her about it but nothing came from those conversations.
one day, it all became too much - she was convinced she was being haunted by something, went to defend herself but it had been eliana that she'd injured. scared, she'd roller bladed away from the scene but had cracked and was turned in a few months later - she had killed her. she was convinced too after the evidence was laid out but a part of herself still protested even though she did go with a guilty verdict... prison? she couldn't survive that! no one thought she could survive it.
the structure of everything wasn't so bad, it was just that she was a weak link and others quickly realised. after staff negligence, an attack was carried out on rosalind when she was in the bathroom. several people hit her, held her down and something sharp cut her face - she'd blacked out, not in the sense of blood loss but she didn't want to be emotionally present. they'd commented on her pretty face and now it 'wasn't anymore'; why did they have to be so happy about that? it infuriated her. the next time they tried to lay hands on her, she was ready to fight back and that actually gained her respect. it troubled her though - she had felt like maybe she didn't do it, that she didn't kill the person she loved most but now, she was capable of going against these type of people. still, she would refrain from bearing her fists if it wasn't self defence.
her lawyer meticulously went through ros' case, not believing that she did it to begin with as she was 'easily manipulated to confess by the police', that's what they had run with along with the fact that the crime scene was an absolute mess and hadn't been secured by the relevant authorities. rosalind lim was granted her freedom on a technicality. it didn't matter whether she thought she was guilty or not, she was out (with a new scar on the right side of her face).
with nothing and no one for her in alaska, she went to a place she was sure felons could blend in - las vegas. ros was never much of a club or bar goer but she'd spent too much time away she she needed to start. she'd got a job and after living at the motel for three months, had managed to save up some money for an rv for the rv trailer park. no, it wasn't what she was used to but was far from the cell she had before and she had the ability to make it her own. rosalind still loved roller blading and that's her main method of transport during the evening (because of the heat). she also loves blue eyeshadow and winged eyeliner - some things never change!
she'd happily do closing - it allows her to live a little as she never really did clubbing before - she just leaped right to working there and can go for hours entertaining and serving... may even give you a handmade bracelet on the way out of the nightclub ;)
