was talking about this in watchcord but with how long i've been in mcyt fandom there's a very distinct phenomenon where newer ccs tend to fall into the twitter fandom's parasocial culture and encourage it, often due to naivety, while ones who stick around and have been here for 5+ years will end up hard diverging from that culture eventually because of how toxic it is

veteran ccs tend to liken their job to that of an actor's from what i've seen, while younger ccs almost present themselves as another fan, an equal to their audience, which enables parasociality

ranboo is my most obvious case study there, but i think the remaining smplive guys are also a pretty good one since that server birthed the whole "boundary" culture and their current content and fandom would kill a smptwt stan

i genuinely think a lot of the fans that engage in this behavior don't realize that "i am not your friend" is directed at them

and once again, "do not ever think or do or write this thing" is not a boundary. objectively. a boundary is "please don't talk to me about this" in an interpersonal relationship.

parasocial nonsense aside: as a grown adult you are 100% capable of not looking at something. it's not hard. it is in no way part of your job to make sure people aren't writing Bad Fanfiction about you.

i also really don't like that mcyt fandom history is so obscured because now the average person has no idea the concept of cc boundaries comes from actual sexual predator callmecarson singling out a teenage fanfiction author on stream which led to said author getting horrific amounts of threats and harassment

like. this is not speculative. the tumblr blog smp-boundaries, which popularized the concept was literally formed in the wake of the smplive serious stream

Hey can we be poetic about Grian declaring that a full moon was rising behind Pearl when it was actually a new moon?

Grian is seeing Pearl on red and announcing that she’s at her full power, that she’s prime to kill. But a new moon is when the moon is dark, nearly invisible. Pearl is four lives down already that session and she is frustrated and tired and drained and her bloodlust is coming from frustration at herself and her own incompetence as much as it is frustration at Jimmy for blowing her up.

Grian declares that Pearl is at her brightest and she is fading in front of him. Grian declares that Pearl is ready to kill and Pearl makes herself vanish. She dies invisible. Just like how they found her. Just like how they kept her.

Scarlet Pearl has always been Pearl at her emotional low, at her most isolated. The legend of Scarlet Pearl as a crazed killer was only ever a tool used to keep her alone, to push her further into the mold of crazy that everyone else wanted, to treat her like an attack dog in subsequent series. Scarlet Pearl never really existed the way the other players claim she did.

The moon is not full. The moon is gone.

Did they do this wrong? Should they have protected her?

What do you think is the weirdest job a hermit has mentioned having? I only know of a few of them like Bdubs worked construction and Gem went through nursing school during covid (a bad time)

this isnt a job directly but i still think its wild that joe almost joined the military. like yeah wels is a vet but i can imagine wels doing that he's got a calm energy and the whole knight persona. can you imagine joe hills at war /lh

dont know much about this, but i recently watched mumbo's video of him inviting a geologist to talk about the accuracy of their hermitcraft terraforming. and i saw in the comments that the one and only zombiecleo used to be a geotechnical engineer before becoming a teacher. and as someone who loves cleo and is planning to do a civil engineering master's specializing on geotech, it made me so happy :D

small little (big) life update on this! i just graduated from my masters (it wasn't with a geotech concentration, just general civil because of some changes in my school). and i have officially been hired as a geotechnical engineer
