I just think that choosing your own name should be a part of everyone's life, whether you're trans or not. You should be allowed to choose something you like that suits you rather than just accept something given to you before you were even aware you existed. And if you like your given name good for you, but you should be able to just... pick a new one, without question or pushback from others, including the people who named you.

A lot of the criticisms about the animated Homestuck pilot can be explained or contextualized by reframing your understanding of what the show is supposed to be - a different adaptation of the same story that's very aware that it's an adaptation after the original comic's ending in a completely different medium

If you look closely at Hussie's cameo at the end, they now have a Wacom tablet and what looks to be either Toon Boom Harmony or CSP open, whereas before they directly had MSPaint and a basic tablet to show how they copy and paste different frames in order to make the animated portions of the early webcomic - I wouldn't be surprised if Hussie in the animated show is the same one from the webcomic just doing it animated this go around (all by themselves! pay no attention to the other animators behind the green curtain!!)

Basically I don't think this is a replacement or a "re-canonization" I think it's a meta statement on adaptions and changing mediums for the same story which is extremely Homestuck

Maybe Princess the tarantula never had anything resembling what we as humans know as emotions, but she still came out of her burrow and up to the glass when we’d talk to her and used to stare at the drawing I’d tape to her terrarium. Maybe she couldn’t even comprehend what we were, but she knew we were there to take care of her. And even if she never showed that sort of curiosity or trust we’d still love her.

Idk if Munchie the praying mantis felt love for me, but I do know he trusted me enough to climb onto my hand when offered and was comfortable with allowing me to carry him places despite me being absolutely massive in comparison to him. So that's close enough in my book.
