Moby-Dick - Youâre likely already aware of this one? Itâs based on the book and itâll probably be, like, 4-5 hours long. His next âbigâ musical.
Octet - Upcoming next month!! Itâs about nihilism, debate, depression, and addiction. Mostly about how those things are connected to the not-so-good side of the internet. Now featuring tarot.
Preludes - Biographical-ish musical about composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, and how he dealt with writerâs block after the (bad) performance of his first symphony. Spans about 3 years of him going to a hypnotherapist to try to get better.
Donât Stop Me - High school danceathon to the death! Like a real high school dance, but actually fun and not awkward. Basically, students compete against each other for a chance to pin The Grand Prize. Time-travel happens, I think? Between the 1920âČs and the dystopian future. If you lose you die, but if you win you essentially get everything you could dream of. Think about The Hunger Games in dance form.
Black Wizard/Blue Wizard - D&D style musical. Two wizards are trying to save the world from mediocrity. Daveâs lovely and talented wife, Eliza Bent, is in this one! Itâs a philosophical fantasia that merges modern musings and ancient ideals.
space//space* - Two brothers go out into space, in a time capsule. One brother falls asleep, the other does stand-up comedy to entertain himself. One evolves into a woman and the other is basically spiraling towards death.
All Hands - Itâs about a very vague Secret Society and the rituals and cliques that come with such societies. Amber Gray from Comet is in this one!!
Beardo - Takes place in a church! Much Russian. To quote Playbill, â[Beardo] chronicles the ascent of Rasputin, the infamous Russian mystic and the subject of much hearsay and legend.â
Three Pianos - UhhâŠWinterreise by Franz Schubert. I guess the best term to use would be that it âexploresâ or âinterpretsâ it in some way? Iâm not sure, but itâs very good. Itâs a song cycle about winter and heart break. Three composers, three pianos.
Five Days in March - This is the horny one. Takes place right before the Iraq war. Two people meet a rock concert and spend 5 days in a love hotel. Thereâs more to it than that though, like anti-war protests etc. Similar to Ghost Quartet, the actors occasionally break character and act âas themselvesâ to the audience.
Beowulf: A Thousand Years of Baggage* - based on Ye Olde English Epic. Three academics debate various different interpretations of Beowulf the epic, and then find themselves morphing into the characters after Beowulf appears in the flesh. One becomes Grendel, another becomes Grendelâs Mother, and another becomes The Dragon. Features the iconic line, âI donât fucking care how fucking many men my fucking son murdered, they all fucking deserved what fucking, asspushers in fancy dress.â (If you search âbeowulf a thousand years of baggage lyricsâ on youtube, you can find the playlist I made of lyrics to the show. However, not all lyrics pre-existed on genius, so itâs not completely accurate. Iâd give myself a solid 90%.)Â
Clown Bible - Exactly what it sounds like. The Bible, told through clowns. Dave plays Job and sings about how he really wants to punch you in the fucking face. Jesus is portrayed as a woman. My favorite song is Flood, where everyone is yelling for the dinosaurs/wooly mammoths/saber-tooth tigers/etc to get off of Noahâs Arc.
(The 99 cent) Miss Saigon - Itâs like the real Miss Saigon except the only prop is a 99cent plastic helicopter.
The Sewers* - Itâs a futuristic sci-fi musical that takes place in a living room after the apocalypse. To quote the BB&B site, âa playwright conjures up a triangular shaped love tryst between his wife and her sister. A mysterious acid leak leaves their tiny one-room village hopelessly barren of childrenâŠyet their male midwife hovers over the proceedings expectantly.â
Sandwich* - Itâs about eating animals. Dave labels either this one or Clown Bible as his first full-length musical (I think heâs described both in that way)? The cast moves around on all fours. They are not furries, just quirky.Â
Thereâs a few others like Little Bunny Foo-Foo (another one Eliza was in), Dysphoria (trans mood), and Henriad (a current Shakespearean project that heâs working on with Rachel Chavkin), but I know less about those shows. Also, they arenât on his website as of now. And like I mentioned earlier, he also has solo projects on his website that arenât quite musicals but sort of feel that way (especially Terrors on the Moor). Iâll gladly describe those ones as well.
