What happens when a Vulpix and a Skitty have kits together?
Because, uh... I recently took a job outside of the home, so I left my female Vulpix in my mother's care. Now I've come back to her telling me how my Vulpix "seduced" the neighbors Skitty!
Anon, I'm so sorry, but coming into my inbox and seeing the word "seduced" to describe the relationship between two little guys in incredibly funny to me. Anyways.
Pokemon Crossbreeds: Cat Tail
Cat Tail is the breed name for members of the Ninetales line whose father is a member of the Delcatty line. The breed got its name from the little things they gain on their tail. It is a breed favored by people who use pokemon as pets because of their relaxed and docile nature.
Vulpix
Cat Tail Vulpix going the traits of Skitty such as the fur pattern and three little skitty tail extensions on their mid tail. While Vulpix are known for being skittish and avoiding people, since these Vulpix are mostly found in urban areas, they are less afraid of humans and may even come up to play with them, even if they are a wild mon. They like to chase their tail extensions around, but they don't like others touching them.
Ninetales
(Putting both the purple and orange fur Variant up bcuz both are pretty common)
Cat Tail Ninetales gain the traits of Delcatty, most notably the neck pillow (which is actually just fat, fun fact) and the tulip-shaped extensions on the tails (they are on all tails, but the pose that Kantonian Ninetales is in just hides them). Like Delcatty, these Ninetales spend much of their day sleeping. They hate to be woken up and will growl at you if you're lucky and blast a fireball or ice ball at you if you aren't. Like their previous evolution, they like to chase their tails around but hate it when others touch them.
Safe to breed? Vulpix + Skitty, Vulpix + Delcatty, and Delcatty + Ninetales is all safe.

pokemon // may & maxie // wc: 1697 // warnings: minor mentions of sexism. // notes: more of an elaboration on the relationship (& dependency) between maxie and may, as portrayed in this fic. this is not a ship, please do not tag/read it as such.
Maxie wakes up, and May is hovering over him.
“ARCEUS,” He startles, practically jumping out of his bed, only to relax marginally when he realizes it’s her. He is immediately tense again when he has the brainpower to notice Blaziken, also staring at him, stood behind her. “What in the– are you here to kill me? Is that it? Did Wallace send you?!”
“Wallace doesn’t wanna kill you,” May rolls her eyes, and Maxie does not exactly believe this, but she continues. “I couldn’t sleep at home, so I’m here.”
Maxie squints at her. “You traveled all the way from Littleroot to Mt. Chimney ‘cause you couldn’t sleep?”
“You make it sound like it was hard.” Again, she rolls her eyes at him. She does this quite a bit, he realizes. “I have a Tropius, y’know, it just flew me here.”
“What, not using Rayquaza for it?” He scoffs, and only regrets it slightly when he sees her face contort as though she’s just smelled straight vinegar. Before she can make any comments about that, he goes on, “So why are you here, exactly? You couldn’t just go for a run and then try to sleep again in your own house?”
She shrugs. “Littleroot’s not fun to run around in.”
“Is it more fun to terrorize my workers at–” he glances at the digital clock on his desk. “Four in the morning?”
“There was no one to terrorize!” She exclaims, “Your stupid grunts were asleep already when I got here. Some night shift crew you have going, absolutely terrible at their jobs.”
He pinches the bridge of his nose, agreeing with her. He struggles to remember exactly who was on night shift this particular night, definitely on account of it being four in the morning and definitely not because he simply has better things to do than keep track. He makes a mental note to check in the morning and give them a very firm talking to. “Still, surely you have other people you could talk to. Your little friends, the boring one and the green-haired one.” It’s possibly rude to call a 13 year old boy “the boring one,” but he can’t be bothered at the hour.
May shifts her weight from foot to foot awkwardly. Blaziken chitters behind her. “They’re kinda busy,” she half-heartedly explains. “Me and Brendan weren’t really friends anyway, though.”
Maxie raises an eyebrow. “You weren’t?” They’d seemed attached for a minute there, but he supposes he doesn’t actually know how happy either of them were to keep running into each other.
“He made fun of me, kinda,” she explains, her voice quiet, like it’s embarrassing to admit. “He would say that I’m not as good a trainer as him ‘cause I’m a girl, and stuff.”
This is ridiculous to Maxie, because she is literally the champion. She’s achieved the highest ranking she could possibly achieve in the Hoenn region. She’d defeated both him and Archie without breaking a sweat. She had Rayquaza, protector of the skies, in her PC. Beyond that, there were other female gym leaders and elite four members. Clearly, being a girl had nothing to do with it. “Well, he’s a 13 year old boy, so you probably shouldn’t listen to him,” he huffs.
“Well, obviously,” she huffs. “I’m better than him, by any means, so it doesn’t really matter if he said that stuff, ‘cause it’s clearly not true.” She moves to plop down at the end of his bed, which he is still laying in. Blaziken lays down on the floor, which looks a little funny, because it’s nearly a full foot taller than Maxie himself and it seems completely content to be on the floor. “But, yeah. He’s just mean. We don’t really talk.”
That’s fair enough, Maxie supposes. “What about the other one?”
“Wally went off,” she explains, waving her hand vaguely. “I think he’s in Sinnoh now. Said he wanted to try out a gym challenge on his own– with a fresh slate, I think. You know how his parents were about him competing here.”
Maxie does not know, but he does not press, because he doesn’t exactly care what May’s friends– or, apparently, not-friends– are up to. He still can’t be certain he’s the best company she can afford, though.
“Surely there’s someone. Go visit your dad.”
“Don’t talk about my dad,” she quickly demands, voice deathly serious, and Maxie does, in fact, stop talking about her dad.
“Visit one of the other gym leaders. I’m sure they’d love a chance to talk with the champion,” he huffs, finally giving in and sitting fully upright. His back aches as he forces himself up.
“That’s kind of the problem, though.” May rests her elbows on her knees and her chin in her hands. “That’s all they wanna talk about. Championship this, championship that. How’s Wallace treating you? Is it tiring to be the champion? What’s it like to be up there?” She sounds almost resentful as she impersonates the nameless people bogging her down with questions. “I wanna talk about other stuff. I’m trying to fill my ‘dex to help along Professor Birch’s research, and no one even wants to help, ‘cause all they wanna do is battle the champion. I haven’t even found someone who will help me evolve my Feebas yet.”
Maxie’s shocked she even found a damn Feebas. Archie, when they were younger, would constantly complain about wanting a Milotic, and how hard it was to find one of the things. “You could talk to Archie,” he realizes, because why is he suffering the brunt of the whims of a 12 year old girl when Archie definitely deserves it more for his sheer insolence?
“Archie has friends.”
All the exhaustion drains from Maxie’s body. “I have friends,” he replies, tight and clipped.
“No, you have admins,” May huffs. “It’s different. Archie is like, friends, friends, with Matt and Shelly. You just boss Tabby and Courtney around.”
Maxie quirks an eyebrow. “Tabby?”
“He lets me call him Tabby,” May states matter-of-factly. A testament to how much time she spends in their hideout, surely, for her to be on a nickname basis with one of his admins. “But you don’t talk to them like friends. And I’ve seen you at the Space Center, you can’t stand any of those people, so I know you don’t have friends at work. So you’re basically always free.”
“I am not always free,” Maxie hisses between his teeth. “I have a life.” A life which does not revolve around a 12 year old bothering him at every opportunity.
“You say that,” May hums, “but if I wasn’t here, what exactly would you be doing right now?”
“Sleeping!” Maxie exclaims. “Because it’s four in the morning!”
“Okay, but like, in the middle of the day. You would be bored.” She states this like it’s an empirical fact, something that is so obvious it doesn’t even warrant acknowledging out loud. “You’d be driving yourself crazy with those morons at the Space Center, and when you aren’t there, you’d be here, in your room, looking over all of your notes about Groudon, telling yourself you’re totally really actually gonna do it next time.” She gesticulates towards his notes. “I know you added more. You’ve still been doing research on it.”
Maxie’s eyes widened. “I am not–” he starts, and he sputters, because he didn’t really realize May had picked up on that. It only made sense, in hindsight– May was often in his room before he was, he would come back from the Space Center to find her ripping his notes into origami Swanna, and then burning them to a crisp with the help of her Blaziken. Of course she was reading the notes she was destroying. Instead of trying to deny it, he pivots. “That’s all the more reason you should be staying far, far away from me, then.”
“I’m not gonna do that,” she states simply, without a shred of fear or anxiety or nerves or even anger. “Because I don’t really believe you.”
Okay, that actually bothers him even more than her knowing in the first place. “You don’t believe me?”
“You’re not gonna do it again,” she shrugs. “If you do, I’ll stop you, the same as last time. I know you aren’t even allowed to use your Camerupt anymore, the PC literally won’t let you take it out, so it’ll be even easier this time.”
As though it was easy in the first place. Distantly, he does remember that final fight before Groudon and Kyogre had started destroying things. He remembers how calm she looked. Maybe it was easy. Maybe he simply wasn’t the great and powerful trainer he fancied himself to be.
“You’re so certain of that,” he huffs, in lieu of acknowledging that quite upsetting realization, and he lays back down. The exhaustion is coming back, and he realizes he’d rather talk about basically anything except this.
“I am,” she smiles down at him, full of mirth, like she’s teasing him and not threatening to destroy his plans a second time. “So am I cool to crash here?”
“I don’t care what you do,” Maxie hisses, “sleep here, sleep in Littleroot, sleep in the middle of Route 122, just go to sleep. You’re 12, you need it.” And I need it, he thinks, though he does not say it aloud. Old age is not treating him well and he needs the rest he can get.
May hums something of a chuckle and slides off the bed, down onto the floor, next to her Blaziken. She curls up against it, and he’s not sure how she can stand to do such a thing– if it’s anything like his own Camerupt, that thing is undoubtedly a walking radiator. He also can’t suspect it’s comfortable, and after a moment he thinks he ought to offer her a blanket or a pillow or something, at least. When he leans over to check on her, though, she’s already fast asleep, her head nuzzled into Blaziken’s feathers. That’s probably a little yucky.
Maxie sighs, leaning back. She’ll likely be gone before he even wakes up the next morning.
i can’t play the victim when i’m taken prisoner, after all.

He isn’t sure what’s more common– Archie and him arguing, or May being there to witness it.
This, as most arguments do, ends with Archie storming out of the Magma hideout– which is still functioning as his living quarters for the time being, thank you– slamming the door behind him. They just can’t seem to agree on anything, or rather, Archie can’t seem to get any of Maxie’s very good and very valid ideas through his thick skull. It’s still full to bursting with water, with no room for actual thoughts to get through.
May sits on Maxie’s desk– on top of some very important paperwork, actually– kicking her legs. Her presence has become oddly common within the hideout. So common, in fact, that he has stopped reacting with surprise upon seeing her. That had actually been the cause of an argument, once. Both Archie and Maxie stumbled in, completely drunk out of their minds, only for May to be sitting at Maxie’s desk like always, folding origami out of his notes, only to toss her creations to her Blaziken to watch it burn each to a crisp. Archie had given him an earful for letting a little girl just wander and play about in his room unattended, and apparently saying “May is always here” wasn’t what Archie wanted to hear. That, too, ended in him storming out.
It was for the best, he thinks, looking back. In fact, he’s thankful, because Arceus only knows what would have happened if she weren’t there.
“That was dumb,” she states in the present, quick and easy and simple. “Why are you both dumb?”
Maxie stiffens as she speaks, straightening up, attempting to puff out his chest. “Both of us?” He scoffs, “Don’t be ridiculous, May, you heard what he was saying.”
May tilts her head to the side, squinting at him. “Sure, he’s still on about the ocean and all,” she huffs, “but it’s not like you got any less interested in land and rocks after everything happened. And you just shut down all his ideas without really giving them any credit.” She glances away. “You’re both dumb. You can’t just work together.”
After everything happened, as May likes to put it, and what Tabitha insists on calling the incident, both Maxie and Archie– as a means of rehabilitation, of some sort, however possible they may think it to be– were put into work at the Mossdeep Space Center to help regulate temperature and climate control. May would even visit sometimes, which he didn’t find as odd as her constant presence in the hideout– the Space Center was very notably open to the public for tours and educational experiences. May being there was arguably a good thing, since she was also clearly not spending any time actually in school.
Of course, they both were scientists, the work is something they would be good at– definitely a better use for your talents than eco-terrorism, Wallace had scoffed. Maxie had crinkled his nose and resisted the urge to counter that it wasn’t really eco-terrorism, for the most part, it only really became eco-terrorism because he, and there he would jab an accusatory finger at Archie, decided to get involved and mess everything up and then they had to drag Rayquaza into it. Maxie had good ideas. Maxie had plans upon plans upon plans.
Rehabilitation was a game he was playing until he could get back into the Cave of Origin. He had ideas.
Maxie huffs. “His ideas are ridiculous. Of course I wouldn’t listen to him.”
“But you’re supposed to be working together,” May emphasizes, clasping her hands in front of her. “I know you guys have differing ideals and all, but surely you didn’t always hate each other, right? You had to have gotten along at some point.”
He feels his eyes twitch, staring down at her. It’s not untrue, which is probably the part he actually hates the most. He recalls when he and Archie were younger– far younger, the ache in his back reminds him– when they had met each other in university. They were studying in Kanto at the time, and when they learned that they were both from Hoenn, they had hit it off relatively quickly. They’d met in a standard biology class– one they just happened to both need for their respective degrees– but when their paths began to part ways, with Maxie focusing on geology and Archie focusing on marine ecology, they still kept up with each other. They would meet up and talk about their courses. They would study together. They went out to watch movies. Though things were never official, Maxie can’t shake that at one point he did love Archie. They were basically dating.
They joined Team Rocket together. It was very romantic.
Of course, that was all a long time ago, in a completely different region, even. He has no need for thoughts and memories of such a time now, and he certainly doesn’t need to entertain May poking and prodding around in his past. It’s none of her business, and she’s too young to know anything interesting, anyway.
“You should go home,” he huffs at her. “Don’t you have a mother who’s worried about where you’re spending all your time?”
“No,” she replies, completely blunt. “I’m the champion.”
It’s self explanatory, and at the same time, it’s a little tragic. He is again reminded– as he often is, with her around– that he is partially at fault for stealing away a portion of May’s childhood. She was 12 and had already beaten Hoenn’s league and summoned the protector of the sky– and then promptly caught it, keeping it in her PC. Beyond that, while it had not quite started yet, he was aware that soon the responsibilities of the champion title would fall onto her, off of Wallace’s shoulders for good. He’d likely be seeing less of her, after that.
He also is aware that he is definitely going to do it again. If he can just get into the Cave of Origin. Will she still come to visit when he proves that he is irredeemable?
No, she’ll be too busy enjoying the new world he’s working to construct. That’s what he tells himself. It’s for the greater good.
When Maxie was 12, he was licking rocks. He imagines Archie was likely drinking salt water around that same time.
