To say that Oscar was out of his depth would be an understatement. He had only been in New Orleans for a few days and the immense culture shock had left him weary and frankly, missing the simple live heād once had back in England. Returning was impossible, at least for the time being. He needed time away, time to figure out himself after the bombshell that had been dropped.
His entire life, heād believed himself to be completely ordinary. That was fine, perfect even, the supernatural was merely something in stories but little had he known there was something mystical cooking within him the entire time, purposefully being hidden for his whole life by his parents. The secret was out there now and it was going to take a while to reconcile that loss of normality.
Despite feeling overwhelmed, he wanted to at least try and explore a little, try and get a feel for the place heād be calling home for the foreseeable future, try and see if anyone was hiring as while he had enough money to pay rent for his tiny apartment, that was only for a month or two; and while he liked being alone, gaining a familiar face would hopefully leave him feeling less like a fish out of water.
Benjamin wasn't typically a charitable man. On most occasions, he wouldn't go out of his way to help anyone unless they were a child or a pretty woman. Still, as he walked by a young man on the street, a pang of guilt rushed into his chest. It was as though he could hear Nicole scold him for not helping the stranger. With a groan and an eye roll, Ben soon found himself turning around in the opposite direction.
"Hey, man," he called out as he jogged to catch up to him. "You, uh--" Fuck. He wasn't good with words, not in the slightest, at least not when talking to men. The only time he needed a conversation with another man was if it was about cars, food, women, or beer. This? This was foreign to him. "Don't take this the wrong way at all, my dude, but you look completely freaking lost. D'you need any help at all?"
