It’s an old tradition that during a leap year women could propose to men. This was usually depicted as old or ugly women trapping men, but some art focused more on the role reversal and could be quite cute.
I have a soft spot in my heart for the last one because it plays on the idea of “undesirable” people, a tall masculine woman and a shy effeminate man, finding each other but instead of mocking them depicts it as sweet that she could finally ask him because he was too shy and insecure to ask her.
Turns out the story of the last picture continues. Apparently the guy’s father isn’t convinced the woman can provide for his son.
Also, I found some more cute ones
ADHD
Add onto this the constant feeling of being overwhelmed. You didn’t get the laundry done yesterday and now there are piles of it. You forgot to take out the chicken so now you’re trying to throw something together for dinner at 9 pm. You forgot to order your prescription and now it’s the weekend so you’re going to go without for 2 days. There are dishes in the sink. You forgot to plug in the vacuum so now you can’t even clean the floor. There are hobbies you can’t do because you’ve convinced yourself you aren’t allowed to experience fun until the work is finished. Slowly, it all builds and you are left sitting there with so much to do and the inability to organize tasks leaves you paralyzed and lost amid everything! Honestly, you fucking break down crying because you feel like an incomplete person incapable of caring for themselves.
I want one of those scenes in a dude bro film where “tomboy” chick has to wear a dress to go undercover or whatever, but instead of the guys drooling as she walks down the stairs, they’re like “k. U need to stop. Go put the cargo pants back on. You look super uncomfortable and awkward in that. Brutus, you go be the fake prostitute.”
I’m just imagining this super ripped guy called Brutus being like ‘YESSS!!! I’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE THE FAKE PROSTITUTE!! Now is my time to shine!!’
so I got inspired… and had to make a comic….
*wipes away a single tear* Yes.
Miss Congeniality, but with The Rock instead of Sandra Bullock

Hi neil!
I got into the sandman comics about a year ago, and then subsequently the show (which is just fantabulous), and after telling my uncle about it he sent me the Death volume (she’s been his favorite character for decades). at the end of the volume there was a comic where Death teaches the reader about AIDs and safe sex.
I was wondering what it was like to originally publish that comic, when (i’m assuming, i wasn’t born yet) they were such touchy subjects?
A friend of mine, Don Melia, had just died of AIDS. Before he died we talked and he urged me to do something to help. Martha Thomases at DC Comics and Alisa Kwitney then assistant editor on Sandman put us in touch with the right people, and got what I wrote fact-checked carefully by an AIDS organisation, and found the helpline and information that we put on the back of the original 8 page supplement (to comics) and handout (sent free to comic shops). A lot of comic shops got them to libraries, high schools, or gave them out to customers. It didn't seem like governments were telling people how to keep safe. We could and we did. I'm still grateful to DC Comics for making it happen, and to all the comics retailers who gave them out or distributed them to people who needed them.
Just wanted to say thanks again, because reading that comic, and having my dad hand me that issue, in a way that framed sex education as normal and in parts funny, made it much easier to talk about sex and sexual health together.
Having that as a third-party we could talk (what Death says or what Neil Gaiman says) made the conversation less embarrassing, especially since you’re the exact same age as my dad. So yeah, thanks Neil.
I'm so glad. That was what it was for.
I grew up during the worst of the AIDS epidemic and before an elder could explain what I needed to know, they were dying of this disease.
There are plenty of other reasons that this lesson is still important.
My thanks, Neil. I am here in small part because of this sound advice.
So I used to have a Russian friend who had a pretty thick accent and like a lot of Russians tended to eschew articles. She would say things like “Get in car.” And stuff.
Well one day this asshole who had been kind of tagging along with us asks her why she talks like that because it makes her sound dumb and I still remember her response word for word.
“Me? Dumb? Maybe in America you have to say get in THE car because you are so stupid that people might just get in random car, but in Russia we don’t need to say that. We just fucking know because we are not stupid.”
One time I was proof reading a paper for a Russian student. As I was correcting her paper with her, the many mistakes in her grammar started weighing on her. I asked her what was wrong, and she said, almost sobbing,
“In Russian I am so intelligent and clear. In English I am like [an] idiot”
Respect to anyone trying to master a foreign language. I get so sad thinking about that student.
Full offense but people who make fun of someone else’s accent or belittle their limited vocabulary when they’re speaking a language not native to them are fucking disgusting and are just begging to be punched.
They’re speaking your language because you don’t know theirs. That’s not something they should be made fun of, it’s something that should be commended because learning a language is hard fucking work.
I hate people who do this so much.
all my students in my dystopian film class think gale is a better match for katniss than peeta and i told them they were Objectively Wrong and they assigned me a slideshow for homework to prove it and—
look. these children are about to be destroyed.
my speech was 17 minutes long and when i finished the boy who challenged me to make the slideshow pursed his lips and said "okay fine, you're right, but i'm docking you points for being biased when you called gale a brat baby"
Fanfic whinge
Hey fanfic writers... can we talk about pregnancy in fics?
Specifically when the female character waits well into the second trimester and past the first ultrasound to tell the father?
There is no way that a woman who is on an intimate standing with a man can hide the fact that she is pregnant from her partner(s). Some of the more obvious things are the lack of period/menses, the sensitivity of her breasts, sensitivity to smells (oh god, the smells) and the tiredness. No one can adequately explain to you about the all encompassing tiredness. Never mind how the female body changes so much in that first trimester.
AND THEN having the lady not take her partner along for the first ultrasound (around 11 weeks) is also a bit of a dick move. Especially if they want to have kids. It is absolutely amazing watching your partner’s face as they realise they are about to become a parent and watching the baby move on an ultrasound.
So when I read a fic where Darcy only tells Steve that she is pregnant when is 14 weeks I want to scream. When Molly waits to tell Sherlock that is pregnant at 16 weeks I want to ask if they understand the characters at all.
Being pregnant, whether it is wanted or not, is not something that can remain undetected for a long time, and once you get to the 10 week mark the changes to a woman’s body is absolutely profound.
*end rant*
I saw your post on miscarriage and it moved me to tears. I lost my own little girl to miscarriage a year ago Thursday, and it was the worst thing I've ever been through. ...I'm so sorry to hear about your kids. If there was anything I could say to make this better, I would, but in lieu of that... know you're not alone. I'm praying for peace for you in dealing with grief. <3 Hang in there.
Thank you, I really appreciate that. I am sorry for your miscarriage as well... it is really something that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
Thoughts on miscarriage
Today, for the second time, I have lost a child to miscarriage. I have been pregnant twice, I've had a miscarriage twice. Quite literally, I have never experienced the joy of leaving the first trimester behind and felt my child move within me. In the time between the first and second pregnancies there have been one birth and two pregnancies in my family. The odds that a new family member will be born on the day when the obstetrician removes what is left of my baby, is quite high. I don't know what to think about it. I don't know what to do. I just don't know. There is nothing like this, though. It feels as if potential and hope was stolen at the last minute and my heart shrivels every time I'm told "we're sorry, there's no heartbeat". So I sit here with a glass of good spiced rum and a plate of sushi, both delicacies that had been until this morning been forbidden, and I wonder about the world. About people who don't want children and who have them, and people who desperately want them and yet, cannot. And tomorrow I will get up, and move on. And maybe things will be different.
The hardback editing stage is always the best and worst thing ever. Seeing 💀💩L tonight. Very excited.

The bra of the future is here — and we need it
Introducing the Knix Wear Evolution Bra. At the time of writing, the bra has gathered $117,519 on Kickstarter from 1,492 backers, and still has 30 days to go. Which is great considering the more money raised, the more everyone will benefit.
Follow stylemic
Let me guess… it maxes out at like a C cup or something and if u got big tits ya outta luck
“We have wear tested the bra up to a size 38E. You can see a gallery of women of all different sizes wearing the bra here: http://loosecanonnyc.com/knix”
Sigh, I’ll take my G cups back home then. It’s okay babies, we didn’t need anything without underwire anyways...
Hi Naomi, unfortunately I’ve been unable to exchange my tickets for Hamlet on 27th August (Balcony seats B48 &49) I’m now looking to sell them at face value, £65 for the pair. I will only be selling them as a pair. Anyone who likes/reblogs this post, or sends me an ask will have their url put in a hat and I’ll draw one at random to get the tickets on 20th July, which will give plenty of time to sort monies and details. Many thanks!
Happy to pass on
Pick me, pick me!
