was talking about this in the soup server earlier but it is still so fucking funny to be that Divinity Original Sin 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 have functionally identical beginnings.
1. Player character is captured, taken onto a ship, and has something Done To Them (source-blocking collar in DOS2, tadpole in BG3)
2. The ship is attacked and starts to go down
3. The player has the option to help fellow captive(s) escape or not
4. No matter what the player does, their escape goes wrong and their life is saved by a mysterious force that follows them through the game and eventually becomes antagonistic*
5. The player washes up in a seaside locale after being saved
It’s a fun set-up for a game, don’t get me wrong! But the fact that it’s from the same developer, two games in a row, is absolutely hilarious. Did they realize they did this? Did they just think people wouldn’t notice? Did they choose to do with full confidence? What lead to this?? I want to know XD
* yes the Emperor isn’t necessarily going to be an antagonist in every playthrough like the gods are in DOS2, but he will in many and so my point remains
They know ; )
