Whose idea was it to run in the rain? #pruneytoes #wethair #traininginnewengland
When half your run is a complete downpour and you get back and it's a perfect sky. #rainfunrun #worthit #rainbowfinish (at Town of Merrimac)
Back at it with #coachbogey
It's all happening...I will be running my very first half marathon tomorrow, pre race jitters are all here and ready to get after it. #oisellemari #asics #garmin #irunthisbody #mainecoasthalf (at Wells, Maine)
In the words of @runski75 "you know your a runner when...you order a box of energy gel" #raceready #humagel #alltheenergy
Last long run before the half and despite some aches and pains felt awesome. I was able to keep the pace I wanted and still was able to kick it up a bit towards the end, maybe it was this delicious @humagel or my new favorite socks from @lululemon, either way I'm pumped!🏃🏼♀️#strongerthanyouthink #training #mainecoasthalf
What a difference a year makes! I could barely finish the Cape 5k, had to stop and walk a few times, now I'm running almost at a 10min pace and getting faster every time! But still not as speeedy as Miss April! #fitzship #cambridgeclassic5k #runningbesties #pr
Getting faster and faster... #zoomzoom
It's been a long week of training, double workouts of barre and yoga with my usual runs but worth it when you see this gorgeous sunset as you finish up an easy run #sunsetrun #training #bringonthehalf
Today's long is brought to you by the letters P and H, which stands for puddles and hills-so many hills #training #hillwork #ouchy
#fartlekrun last night on the treadmill felt good. However, please note the differences from Garmin to treadmill, think I'm going Garmin on this one. #training #mainecoasthalf
Despite the rainy conditions not too bad for a 10k! #headupwingsout #oisellemari #teamvolèe (at Salisbury, Massachusetts)
Fast feet tonight for interval training Tuesday! #coachbogey #wingsout #asics
Running with Friends
I have never been someone who enjoyed running with friends. I always felt I was holding them back or my pace wasn’t fast enough. That never stopped me from signing up for races with them or suggesting we go for a run, though.
Recently, a friend from work, offered to run with me when I told her I was thinking of running during lunch. (Side note: I work for a company that encourages it’s employees to work out during lunch...but more on that soon.)
She has run a few marathons (Boston, Chicago) over the past couple of years, so I assumed I would be much too slow for her pace. Then she mentioned she had not been running in a couple of years and wanted to get her workout routine back. I should mention she recently gave birth to an adorable baby boy.
So off we went...chatting and running around Portsmouth. She pushed my pace a little further than I likely would have if I was alone. And then, before I knew it we ran 3.5 miles! Now I am looking forward to our next run...if this weather ever cooperates again. :)
This is the stuff of crazy people or dedicated runners, I think I may be both 😳started at -7 ended with -5, had to cut my run short by about 20mins bc I was just too damn cold. Maybe next wknd! #kristinpopsicle #traininginnewengland #isitspringyet
IT Band Struggle
I feel like a real runner now, I am feeling that inner hip pain that comes when your IT band is acting up...or whatever the technical term is for what is happening.
I got the roller of death last month- I roll around on the floor in agony every other day and it feels good-ish while I do it but still tight. I don’t think this is a good sign, but I will continue.
What I DID discover, however, was once again how amazing barre is! In a previous post, I had mentioned about how amazing it was for my tight hips. Well, earlier this week I was hobbling into work with my tight IT band after a rough Easy run the night before. I took my usual noon class and we did one of the tougher positions, (Mermaid,) which feels like agony at the time. I walked out of class sore but no more tightness in my hips or down my leg. I could have skipped back to work I was so happy.
And it appears the secret is out on how great barre is for runners because even Women’s Running is posting about it.
I can’t get enough and am looking forward to another class tomorrow after my interval training tonight!
