I’m reblogging this again because I finally realized why this is so funny to me, as a bird person.

In the first gif, what you’re seeing is a man who has zero idea how to handle a bird. That’s a heavy bird, and he’s got his arm stretched out as far as it will go in an attempt to keep the bird away from his face. What that does is create unstable footing for Uncle Sam. The handler is there trying to hold up Trump’s arm, but the bird has already realized it needs to leave or it will fall. In the first gif the bird is not attacking Trump- it is trying to get away from him so it doesn’t get hurt.

In the second gif, what we see is a bird that remembers what just happened and is blaming Trump for it. Uncle Sam sees Trump reach for its tether, and makes a lunge at Trump’s hand to keep him away. The bird /does not/ want to hang out with Trump because it has learned that Trump has no idea what he is doing.

Uncle Sam is rejecting Trump based on Trump’s proven inability to properly handle Uncle Sam. And that is both hilarious and beautiful.

Good bird.

I am assuming that is a well-trained bird handler who also is experienced in taking birds out for outreach. He has probably coached Donald Trump in exactly what to do, plus is trying to physically guide him to do what is needed. And Trump just. cannot learn. It’s going to be a long four years of Trump handling. We gotta vote in 2018 so we can get more handlers in!

That is absolutely a well-trained handler. His name is Jon Wood, he used to do assemblies at my school with Sam and several other birds. He would often pick a couple students to feed some of the birds, and he never let anyone approach them without telling them exactly how to do it.

Fun fact: I got to feed a piece of chicken to Uncle Sam once! He’s a beautiful bird but he doesn’t fly very well because of the half-wind he’s missing, as you can see in the gif. I believe he was hit by a truck on the NYS Thruway iirc

Fun fact #2: I was a weird autistic kid with a special interest in bald eagles and other birds of prey, and after seeing Jon Wood’s show for the first time I became obsessed with it and then dressed up as Jon for Halloween, completely with a paper-maiche Sam. No I’m not making that up. Unfortunately i don’t have pictures anymore.

I used to really worry that medications would harm my creativity and it’s part of why I resisted taking them. It hasn’t. If anything it’s allowed me to be more focused and able to complete things. My imagination hasn’t changed just because I’m on anti-depressants.

a lot of my family didnt want me to start medications because they thought it would impact my ability to create, and I believed them. Now im getting better and better with my art because i dont have to fight through the brainfog or the constant panic attacks and can dedicate my energy to my work. Antidepressents didnt take my emotions away, they made them easier to handle.

also Van Gogh was literally in an asylum receiving mental health treatment when he painted ‘Starry Night’. It was one of the most stable & productive periods of his life, despite the fact that wasn’t hugely effective treatment, because they didn’t really have modern understandings of what things work on mental illness. Like, you know. Medication.

ALSO because I am reading a book of his letters right now, Van Gogh himself addressed the idea that the best art came from pain and said that his art tended to suffer when his depression was hitting pretty hard. So don’t even pull that shit where you give his untreated depression credit for his art. Van Gogh would have hated that, and if antidepressants/better treatment of mental illness HAD existed then we might have even more of his work now.

imagine a rosario vampire kind of setting, where a human winds up at a monster school. except the monsters all know they’re a human. maybe they’re part of a new “monster/human friendly relations” project. everyone is pretty cautious about causing an incident, so they’re treading lightly around the human. but the human doesn’t even bat an eye at the strange stuff that goes on, so the monster kids gradually become more relaxed around them.

here’s the thing. the human doesn’t actually realize they’re at a monster school. they’re basically the living embodiment of “staying in their lane”. they see strange monster things happening and they’re like “huh. well that’s none of my business” and just go about their day

so the monsters think the human knows what’s up and doesn’t care. the human thinks they’re at a weird but ultimately normal human school. then the human sees something so explicit that they can’t help but connect the dots, like a werewolf transforming right in front of them. the human screams, the werewolf yelps, everyone else starts screaming too. there’s lots of confusion all around.

eventually they all figure out what happened. then the human’s friends start quizzing them on how the hell they never noticed.

“the werewolves literally walk around with their ears and tails out.” “I thought they were just furries okay?!”

“but the vampires drink blood at lunch! only blood! they don’t eat!” “listen, even goths can be insecure about their weight. it’s not my business if they want to go on a weird tomato juice diet.” “I guess that explains why you hugged Travis and told him he was beautiful the way he is that one time.”

I’m a little frustrated that people think Stuart Semple is just putting these colors out because of Anish Kapoor. Stuart Semple has been working on these pigments for years. He has spent a lot of time and energy creating these pigments + a line of acrylic paints. The popularity of Pink BECAUSE of the Kapoor feud has given him the monetary support necessary to produce the rest of these pigments and the glitter. But he’s been working on them and trying to get them made for a very long time. Like by all means, continue to support Semple. Continue to get enjoyment/entertainment out of this feud. But give credit where credit is due - Semple spent years working on this, he didn’t churn it out in a week becuase of Kapoor.

Since I haven’t personally seen it come across my dashboard yet, I’m going to go ahead and make a post.

For those of you familiar with Pack West Wolfdog Rescue, they’ve taken on the immense task of trying to finally get “Wolf Haven Spirits of the Past” taken down.

Now I’m hoping in my circles that name rings a bell. They’ve been the laughing stock of the internet for at least 7 years now with numerous attempts to have them shut down. You might remember them for:

Claiming their husky mixes are “98% wolf”.

Saying wolves are the “lions of the north”.

Advising people to feed their dogs (erm, *cough*“wolves”*cough*) rocks and dirt because they “need” it in their diets.

Advising people to feed their dogs cat food.

Saying wolves are actually felines.

Saying wolves don’t get ticks, fleas, worms (yet they recommend regularly using dewormers?), parvo, or health problems like hip dysplasia.

Saying wolves’ eyes absorb sunlight during the day and reflect it back at night for night vision, that wolves have collapsible skeletons, and that they make great companions for truck drivers and are excellent for children.

Keeping their ridiculously large “pack of wolves” on plain dirt with little enrichment (when they were in Texas).

Oregon is a state which prides itself on its progressive approaches to environmental conservation and animal welfare. But in Lane County, Oregon, a puppy mill known as “Wolf Haven Spirits of the Past” has been selling misrepresented mixed‐breed dogs as “98% pure wolves” to anyone and everyone with cash in hand.

Several concerned citizens have reported signs of neglect and abuse at the breeders’ property, where they currently house between 10 ‐ 20 husky‐mix dogs ‐ many of which have endured miserable living conditions in mud, muck, and squalor.

Investigators with Pack West Wolfdog Rescue were alerted by neighbors in the area, and received permission to visit and film the animals’ conditions in the spring of 2016.

What they found was beyond belief.

Wolf Haven Spirits of the Past were promptly reported to local authorities at Lane County Animal Control, and the Oregon Humane Society.

Pack West’s investigators were hopeful that swift action would be taken against the breeders for such blatant neglect, but as time passed, no progress was made. The breeders received no reprimand, and now, they’ve begun advertising more upcoming litters of “wolves” for sale on local craigslist and Hoobly pages.

Last year, the breeders boasted that they had six litters (a total of 42 puppies) which were sold on a first‐come, first‐serve basis to anyone, regardless of past experience, and with no question as to where the pups would go if the new owner could no longer provide for it.

Several of WHSotP’s animals have ended up in rescues all across the country over the course of several years. They’ve come in with hip and joint problems, skin conditions, behavioral issues, and a wide range of similar concerns.

Rescuing just one animal from this kennel can cost a nonprofit rescue upwards of $600.00! This includes transport of the animal, spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, flea and tick treatment, and housing and feeding of the canine until it finds its forever home.

When animals like this end up in a bad place, it’s breed‐specific organizations like Pack West who usually end up answering the call (and footing the bill) to save them. But we are a small, foster‐based operation, and we do not have much space or funding.

We’re already strapped for resources because we’re the only wolfdog‐specific rescue in the Pacific Northwest. With added pressure from the influx of animals put out there by irresponsible puppy mills like Wolf Haven Spirits of the Past, our jobs become a whole lot harder.

We’re no longer asking ‐ we are demanding ‐ that Lane County Animal control take responsibility and put an end to this puppy mill today. Stop them from breeding any more misrepresented animals; stop them from continuing the cycle which endangers so many canines’ lives. Stop them from forcing the pups they produce to live in such horrid conditions.

Oregon expects better when it comes to animal care and husbandry, so please, put an end to this today.

Wolf Haven Spirit of the Past has been a laughing stock and an ugly stain on the wolfdog community for too long. The idiocy would be funny if live animals weren’t on the line. That emaciated creature in the last photo really says it all. They’re a nasty mill breeder and should have been stopped ages ago.
