“I know, sweetheart,” she comforted her daughter. “But it all worked out in the long run. She’s amazing in Rookies, and that’s just in the tour stages so far.”

“i mean, present day, there doesn’t seem to be any good reason not to sign them. especially with how well it all turned out,” choe said with a little laugh. “you’re right. god, i feel so bad for her manager. we both know how much she complains when she’s unhappy.”

“Yeah, it worked out well,” she said happily, wrapping her arms around Choe, before starting to laugh along with her. “‘Complaining’ is certainly one way to put it. You know, she really reminds me of you when she threatens people this often.”

“I know Myungji wasn’t really trying to win Idol Project, but if she was, does that mean you’d have to pick which daughter you were cheering for?” @rvmihye

“You have two sisters, do you have to pick which one you like more?” Mihye asked in response. “I cheered for both of them, I just wanted Mirae to win like she set out to and I wanted Myungji to have fun performing and show off her talents as well.”

“it’s kind of weird asking you for vocal advice, just hitting the tenth anniversary but…..they have me singing in a lot of the new songs so….i thought i’d at least ask.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Mihye laughed softly. “I would have thought they would want to give you at least a few more chances to rap but...” She shook her head. “You’re a good vocalist, your parts will be great.”

“i don’t remember you keeping me from signing any,” choe retorted, coming up behind her (girlfriend? wife? woman? significant other?) and kissing her neck. “god, here i was hoping you’d reason with her. i tried to argue she needed to wear a bra, but the points she was making were all fair points. the only reason i didn’t give in is because i figured you wouldn’t be too happy with her not wearing one.”

“Of course I didn’t,” Mihye said softly, a smile growing across her face as she felt the older woman start to kiss her neck. “Why would I have kept you from doing that?” she asked rhetorically, her voice still quiet before she laughed again. “At least now she’ll always have KBS’ stylists to try to get to her when we’re not there to reason with her.”

“do you ever see cheerleaders and all the stunts and stuff and wish you could do that? i can barely dance, let alone do all those crazy flips and stuff.”

Well, not exactly, no. But you’re also talking to the woman who can still put her foot behind her head and I’m turning twenty-nine soon,” Mihye said, looking over at the girl. “If you’d ever like help with dancing, though, I’d be happy to help you.”

“You’re right, it’s really a shame,” Mihye said, “Choe practically lives in them, I should really tell Gaia’s stylists about where she’s gotten them.”

“I wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing, but then again, I apparently just look like I’m worried all the time.”

“I’m so glad KBS really learned from Attention.” Mihye shook her head. “Otherwise it was a great debut, sweetheart. The four of you did well.”

“Hyunwoo told me to make a list of the things I’m most excited for for the tour, so I can hype myself up. All ten things on that list are pyrotechnics. I’m gonna ask if I can help set them off.”

“You know, sometimes you really remind me of my daughter. Except thank god Mirae hasn’t gone through an arson phase. Yet.”

“True, I just hope when we move on to different concepts I’m not just seen as cute and that I can show different sides.”

“I’m sure you won’t get stuck as the ‘cute maknae’ forever. Even if you wanted to, I don’t think it’d be very easy to hold onto if you ever tried a darker concept.”

“Choe and I get some weird looks when we’re out together,” she replied, preferring to say the least in this situation, “I can’t tell you all of that magically goes away, but I’m sure you and I both can agree that everything gets easier when you do your best to block that out.”

She nodded slowly at the girl’s explanation. “Sounds like you guys have more in common than some of them might realize. But it’s definitely not your fault at all.”

“i just had an argument with your daughter about why it’s important for her to wear a bra,” choe said, walking into mihye’s office and closing the door behind her. “the worst part is that she had more points in her favor than i did, so maybe that’s a conversation you need to follow up on. i wouldn’t wear a bra either if it wasn’t a liability.”

My daughter?” she repeated incredulously, unable to keep from laughing at the older woman’s comment. “I don’t remember ever begging you to let me sign any adoption papers.” Mihye shook her head, setting the rest of the new trainee profiles she had been going over down on her desk. "If it helps, she was wearing a cardigan the last time I saw her, and promised me that she’d keep it on.”

“You know, I don’t understand why I have to learn all these cute girl dances and stuff.” She groans, not caring if she’s interrupting the silence that once held the room. “Why can’t I learn a sexy dance? All these Eonnies, prancing around and flipping their hair, I can do it to you know. Arguably a little better than some of them out here. Look, look, I can be just as sexy.”

“Because these days female rookies are expected to be able to do cute concepts perfectly,” Mihye explained, unable to keep from laughing softly as she spoke, “you can be sexy once practice is over and I know you can do this choreography correctly.”

“how….how do you think i could get my family to stop hating me?” hyunah asked with a sigh. “like all my half siblings….their mom is the only one who likes me, and she isn’t even related to me….what am i doing wrong?”

“Why on Earth would your family hate you?” Mihye asked honestly. She couldn’t imagine what could cause the girl’s family to dislike her at all, though the comment on her mother and her being unrelated started to give some context.

“I don’t think that’s a bad thing, it’s not like it hurts you,” she replied, “besides, right now it still fits a lot of what Hydra does.”
