[[ Five months absent and the activity is still spiking- wow! I can write about the absolute s t o r m of things that drew me away from the internet for such a long time, but they more or less amount to a deluge of work on top of consecutive illnesses that sapped my energy.

A Broken Promise // Jenny & Ryan
It wasn’t hard to tell that the morphine, plus whatever else they had him on, was trying to drag him back to sleep. He had been injured badly—he needed to rest and he needed to get better. Jenny briefly remembered saying that he would probably be in the hospital for about a week to two weeks before being in physical therapy for at least eight to twelve weeks before being cleared back into work. He needed a lot of time to be her warrior again.
"Yes, I know," she giggled, though guilt was starting to gnaw at the back of her mind. She shouldn’t have been so harsh to Javier…If Javi ever told Kevin, which he had every right to, Kevin would probably be pissed. Jenny didn’t understand the relationship he had with Javier. She never would. How dare she yell at him, blame him for this…
But Jenny was Kevin’s partner, too. Yeah, in a different way, but even while she felt guilty for treating Javier so harshly, all Jenny could see now while Kevin was in bed was imagining a life without him, raising Sarah alone, working extra hours…
And how Javier would still be there, stepping in for Kevin as much as he could. Just as Kevin would help out Javier in anything he needed, alive or dead.
Yeah, she owed Javier an apology.
There weren’t very many people Kevin let his guard down to. She knew that. So seeing his eyes scared, and vulnerable, she knew she needed to let him rest, but she also knew she couldn’t leave him. At least not yet.
"I’ll stay, Kevin. Don’t worry," she said quietly. The hand in his hair traveled down to his cheek, fingertips ghosting over the cheekbone she wasn’t sure she was ever going to touch again.
"I’ll stay. Don’t worry."
He watched her for a few long moments- and saw her, of course, but the flashes of emotion were just beyond his realm of ability to understand at the moment. So he stored away the images for later, hoping fuzzily that he'd remember them clearly enough to take apart and examine the way he did best. Or at least most compulsively.
"'S good," he said around a sloppy grin, "Gotta make sure, y'know? Helps me sleep at night that you know that I know that y'r the best." It felt long and wordy and not just because time wasn't behaving properly- slipping and sliding and stretching out around the edges. He was pretty sure that even lucid, his words would still be clumsy. "-You know. Always."
Without meaning to, he leaned into Jenny's touch. Maybe it was the drugs in his blood but with the whole time being weird thing, it was hard to anchor himself to her in the in-between moments- like the time between seconds would take her away, take away his memory of her face and the way her fingers felt against his skin and the way her hair absorbed and reflected sunlight. Things that were central to the way he fit into this world.
Gratitude tumbled out of him even as his eyes closed, "Thank you." He hoped that she heard him say it with his whole body, as he tried to do. Just so she knew how much it meant that he couldn't help her at that moment- that she would stay and make sure he had a tether to the world that was so hazy when it had always, always, been clear.
"Y' make everything better."

"What happened this time?" Castle asked looking up from the paperwork he been helping Beckett sort through. "And tell me it’s good."
"Well if your definition of good is no physical evidence and a John Doe, then yeah. Great, in fact." He waved futilely at the computer screen before pushing back and focusing his attention on his coffee. "Wanna put your Castle-magic to the test? See what jumps out?"
"I know what you mean."
"Long week for you too?"

"Oh my god, I have never been this happy to have coffee in my life. -... Or at least in recent memory."
[[ so! just a heads up: I’m not going to be on that much this weekend. Today is packing + paper writing, moving back home, then birthday shenanigans. Should be back Saturday night/Sunday. (Definitely Sunday, since this is basically the last assignment of the semester.) If anyone wants any plots, just message! ]]

[[ I promise my five hundred replies are coming?? I've been a little scattered lately and everything's sort of culminating in end of the year stuff but no one has been forgotten- everything's drafted and a lot of it is partially/halfway done. ]]
“Oh — no. No, that’s fine.”
She sighs heavily, sitting at her desk before settling her head in her palms.
“I’m losing it. I’m officially going crazy.”
"Sure it is," his tone is not as much disbelief as it is amusement bordering just on the edge of sympathy. He leans against the edge of her desk, arms loosely stacked on top of each other.
"Nah, I'm pretty sure for an official diagnoses you also have to create a public scene. Liberate some animals, throw money in the street- that kind of thing." He wonders, vaguely, if that will elicit one of her looks so he tacks on (no less dryly), "I'd try to get them to speed it up, but I have no bargaining chips. And I think they're immune to Castle's autographs so that's out the window too."
“Ryan — have you seen that backpack we detained from the drug-bust yesterday?”
"It's almost finished being processed in Evidence. Did you need it sooner than- I dunno, a few days down the line? They don't sound like they're inclined to expedite anything."
