like yeah in theory thereās nothing inherently wrong with liking and sympathizing with the villain of a story and even projecting onto them a little bit. itās fine. we all do it. villains are interesting, theyāre meant to be. but when the villain in question IS textually sort of emblematic of racism and assimilation and is shown to actively and knowingly work with klan members, like⦠idk! i donāt think the problem there is that IāM to squeamish to, like, engage with a character that has ādark themesā. i think they set up a character to functionally be a personification of white supremacy and for some reason you saw yourself in that! letās sit with that!
