Ive been busy and just overall enjoying the first few weeks of summer gang✌😞

Okay gang so Leo Valdez is a character (me) and his character in the books is him being a really silly guy, jokester and tries his best to make people like him. He's actually depressed as fuck and he's the hide everything all of your past behind jokes and a smile type of guy. His past consists of piles of trauma like abuse and having to live on the streets after running away from foster homes. He could never find a real home after the fire he had accidentally started killed his mother when he was eight.
But what stuck out to me the most is his fragile masculinity. Like- he's CONSTANTLY trying to convince people of how many he is and trying to act like a type of guy that he isn't. So that gave me the thought process and headcanon: this dude is definitely transmasc. BECAUSE he had such a hard childhood of people constantly hurting and berating him for being himself, and SINCE it was never clarified WHAT they would hurt him for, I got the thought of "hey. Would his extremely strict and religious Tia judge and yell at him for being himself? Tell him to dress like a girl? And if and when he refused, he'd get hurt? And then his abusive foster mom Teresa could have been the same way after Leo's Tia Rosa sent him to foster care for being " wrong".
He ran away again and again and was living on the streets, fourteen years old with a homemade binder and fire powers he'd never use again, stuck on the streets of Texas where he met a bunch of people who he accidentally upset, but then he got sent to Wilderness school after he got caught and sent back to a foster home, yada yada TLH, SoN, MoA, HoH, and finally Blood of Olympus, where Leo dies in the end, and then gets brought back to life. He gets to go back to camp withOUT going back for Calypso because HE NEVER MADE THAT OATH THAT GOT HIM STUCK IN A TOXIC RELATIONSHIP AND HE GOES BACK TO CAMP WHERE JASON AND PIPER AND EVERYONE ELSE IS MAD AT HIM BUT HAPPY HES ALIVE AND OTHER STUFF. He gets top surgery at camp bc I'm sure they have that available there maybe idk but then he goes with Jason (his best friend ever and love interest like he's in love with this guy ill never be convinced otherwise) on Jason's journey around the country to make shrines to all the gods but they're in NYC or somewhere for now. They get stuck far from camp and can't get back, so they're stuck together living on the streets and now in danger of being attacked by both monsters AND gangs or dangerous people.
Even though Jason would be in charge of keeping them both safe, he was raised by wolves and then by strict Romans so he doesn't know what dangerous parts of cities and people always being a threat to you would be. So then, Leo takes charge. He loves Jason with all his heart, and he also knows just how dangerous this type of lifestyle can be. He's lived it for years, though, so he can take care of him.
However, he's still keeping secrets about his past, and he's never really opened up about his life to anybody. Jason is stuck wondering just how much Leo has experienced and what, while Leo is traveling with his best friend and constantly worrying about what old parts of him could resurface.
Leo becomes more serious, jokes far less, and takes charge without trying to be funny. Jason had never seen this side of him before. Leo seems like the type to be really clingy and needs love and attention, but he also learned how to manage and handle getting none of that.
They come across a big problem one day. They see a gang that Leo had problems with and made enemies with in Texas, but now they were HERE. That gang, unfortunately, had dirt on Leo, and he remembers times when they would hurt other people with info they had. They knew about Leo being trans and Leo remembers how in Houstin Texas, that could get you hurt.
Leo hadn't told anyone he wasn't cis except Piper, his other best friend. He remembers his times in Texas and his foster homes and Tia. So he keeps Jason as far away as possible from that gang. Problem is: they're everywhere.
They find a place to stay for a few days, and while caring for a few scratches cuts they had gotten with tools provided by Leo, Jason stops and stares at his friend. He had drastically changed from the Leo he knew, and yet...it was strangely endearing. Jason's hair had grown out and so had Leo's, but Leo's curly black hair had grown fast, and was now almost to his shoulders, and now he kept it up in a messy curly bun. His old pale scars from an accident years ago were more prominent with the dark clothes and surroundings they were now in. He wanted to know what they were from. He remembers when Leo had told him about the accident with his mom once, and wonders if they were explosion scars. He sees the bandages on his wrist he never spoke about and his whole demeanor that had changed.
Json wasn't used to this Leo, but he knew that there was a lot of weight on those shoulders, and he wanted to help him carry it, and maybe even...maybe even have him love himself as much as Jason loves him, too.

He remembers when Leo had told him about the accident with his mom once, and wonders if they were explosion scars. He sees the bandages on his wrist he never spoke about and his whole demeanor that had changed.
Json wasn't used to this Leo, but he knew that there was a lot of weight on those shoulders, and he wanted to help him carry it, and maybe even...maybe even have him love himself as much as Jason loves him, too.
