You Should Be So Lucky by Cat Sebastian

yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
Darcy in his letter being like, "I suppose if you say so, your sister might have actually loved Bingley. I'm not sure though, it seems unlikely. I did look very hard at her for like, whole minutes at the ball. But whatever, it's already done and I still think I was right. Because your family sucks."
Elizabeth to Jane being like, "Darcy's friends who quite literally live with him think he's great, but obviously they are decived and blinded by his wealth. I talked to this hot guy at my aunt's house for a whole evening and I, Elizabeth Bennet, know the real truth: Darcy sucks."
They really are made for each other.
I want to go back in time so I can show this post to Jane Austen so I can hear her go “bitch exactlyyyyyyy” or whatever they said in the 1800s
adulthood notes:
The Rodeo Rule: you only have to do it for the first time once.
The Rohan Rule: if you are at a social function full of new people and you want to be liked, find someone doing important work like setup or food prep and offer to help.
The Tutorial Mode Rule: to navigate an unfamiliar situation where you fear you will mess up an interaction, preface the interaction by mentioning that you've never done this before, and let them know if you have a specific concern or question.
The Rocket Science Rule: most new things you want to try seem very complicated but are simple when taken step by step.
The [X] Will Remember That Rule: if you need to make small talk with the same person on a regular basis, try to save one fact or current event in their life from a given conversation and bring it up next time you talk.
The Cool Binder Rule: by wearing clothes and accessories that are to your taste instead of trying to blend in, people will be more likely to compliment you and show interest in you as a person.

it’s 2014 it’s time we moved on as a nation and stop reblogging this

using "what were YOU doing at the devils sacrament" to mean "yeah i made an embarrassing reference but you understood it which is also embarrassing" is very funny to me
my favorite part is that absolutely nobody says this except here. so if you use it in public, it's a dead giveaway that you spent the last ten years on tumblr. but then again, they recognized it, which means they were at the devil's sacrament
I tested this theory in the wild the other day at work. I was on a call with my department lead and a few other folks and I replied to an email the DL had sent me, thinking that, because he was on this call, he wouldn't notice when I sent it and would not catch me multitasking.
However, he replied to said email within five minutes, asking a question that required an answer. So I answered and was like "Also, I was going to apologize for answering emails during this call, but I see we're both here at the Devil's Sacrament, so I don't think an apology is necessary."
I watched him read that on screen and try not to laugh. And then at the end of the call as everyone started saying goodbye, he goes, "Hey, MJ, I meant to tell you. I like your shoelaces."
And I looked straight into my camera, stone cold serious, and said, "Thanks. I stole them from the president."
And the rest of the team was like, "What...the fuck...?" before he abruptly ended the call for everyone.
So now my DL and I know this about each other. He could be any one of us.
At a certain point, the appropriate response to "What were you doing at the devil's sacrament" becomes "stealing shoelaces from the president."
Reblog if you were stealing shoelaces from the President
there are places in the world today that are experiencing 40°C for the first time in recorded history. of course there's no way to know whether chucking billionaires into volcanos will appease the sun god but i feel we're doing the scientific method a disservice if we don't at least try
"going out to get milk" is a common turn of phrase used to describe a man abandoning his family.
the "milkman" is a common figure in stories depicting a woman's infidelity and adulterous affair.
this implies that the ability to provide milk would both decrease the likelihood of a man abandoning his wife and children, as it would eliminate the need for leaving to get milk AND would secure that man's marriage, as his wife would have no need to seek milk from an extraneous source.
therefore, all men should produce milk, through various means such as:
- being a cow
- being an almond
- being a woman
- being a coconut
- being in the omegaverse
- being an oat
(list is exemplary and not finite)
in this essay, i will redefine the nuclear family and explain the seductive and inflammatory nature of the 1993 "Got Milk?" commercials.
you shut your mouth.
see my problem is if i “listen to my body” it literally only wants to lie down and take naps, all the time
I really empathize with this kind of thought process, and it also worries me a fair amount. I'm not sure what yall are being given by way of tools to understand what "listen to your body" actually means on a practical level, but here are some introductory tools for this my mother and other caregivers have taught me over my lifetime:
Sensations, feelings, and embodiment experiences are biofeedback - communication from your body to your mind and back about what you may need in order to continue functioning as best you are able. While these are not direct 1:1 communications (e.g. "I feel tired all the time so I'm going to go lay down and nap until that stops") they will still communicate information (e.g. "I feel tired all the time so I must not have the embodiment resources I need to be doing what I'm doing all day, I should see what I need more of such as fuel [food/nutrition], maintenance [rest or decompression], or repair [medical or mental health treatments and other care]")
When I'm tired, my first go-to is food, specifically either a sugar or a carbohydrate, some water, and then giving it 20min. If I feel better, I try to eat a carb and a protein to cap it off and then continue about my business! If I do NOT feel better, or am still tired after, I will try to do something that makes me feel joy or pleasant sensations. Hot bubble bath! A chocolate bar! A puzzle break, or some time in the garden or playing with my dogs. A cute text to my wife. A chapter of my current book. Just something to switch up my headspace and do something I enjoy. This is "decompression" for me, and typically does the trick if food doesn't. If even that fails, I go for sleep/rest, and if even that isn't working out, I start assessing my medical needs. Am I sick? In pain? Overstressed? Address that and accept my limitations until that's done. Do tasks in no more than 15min chunks wherever possible to keep from getting overloaded until the problem is resolved
Do regular biofeedback checks! I do four each day. Once each when I wake up and when I go to bed, once at 2pm, and once at 9pm. I'll also run them quickly in my head when I'm feeling off in some way. Helps me notice needs I may have missed before. It's nothing too fancy! I try to focus on breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth, and just noticing things like pain, tension, discomfort, tiredness, confusion, etc. These are things that can tell me I may be missing a need as well.
I think a lot of us hear "listen to your body" and think "take my body's cues at face value", but it's usually goint to look more like noticing patterns in how you feel before and after meeting certain basic needs like food, rest, medical care, emotional security, etc. That helps you learn what your body is saying when it feels like that. There can be common responses! Like agitation (excitement, anxiety, anger, fear, stress, etc) will often look like shortened breath or a tightened chest, stomach aches or nausea, light headedness or sudden clamminess, irritability/reactivity, difficulty directing focus. But it will still have cues unique to you as well! My agitation cues also include pain due to a health condition, so when I find myself in a lot of pain, I will often respond to myself as if I am agitated in some way, and I'm usually right to! That won't be true for everyone, but many of us will have little variations like that and learning yourself is a lifelong process.
friend is trying to convince me this is a common experience and I do not believe her, so
Do you expect to be paid back if you pay for something for your friend while you’re hanging out? (I.E. a ride, a meal, a trinket.)
Yes, always
Yes, but only if it’s above a limit of money
No, never
I don’t buy things for my friends.
bald button
For a more illustrative example, say you go to the movies with a friend and you buy them popcorn, do you expect them at some point to send you money back via cash or through an app of some kind? Will you be upset if they don’t?
