When I went to MetroCon last month Lisa Villella had a booth there with a print of the Iwatobi swim club modeled after this Leyendecker piece.  Well I immediately bought the print because of my intense passion for both J.C. Leyendecker and Free! Iwatobi Swim Club.  Then I was bitten by the idea to do the same concept with Sailor Moon.  

I looked through some of my favorite Leyendecker pieces and settled on this one for a picture of Haruka and Michiru (Sailor’s Uranus and Neptune).  I treated the process as a sort of master copy to learn what I could from Leyendecker’s handling of brush strokes and shapes.

Color Palette Challenge

In anticipation of the upcoming remake I’ve been watching a lot of the original Sailor Moon series lately and felt compelled to draw my personal favorite senshi, Sailor Uranus.  I used Nao Takagi, who portrayed her in the live action musicals, as a facial reference.

Final design for Touchstone!  His outfit was a big step outside what I’d normally do, especially the kilt and the tights, but I had fun with it.

I’d been wanting to do an illustration of Lirael and the Disreputable Dog for a while now and finally got a composition I liked and worked from there.

Continuing on the Sabriel design front I’ve done some work on designing her uniform from Wyverly.

Trying out some hairstyles for Sabriel.  I want her to have very proper-young-lady Edwardian hair in Ancelstierre that steadily devolves as she travels the Old Kingdom.  Need to do more doodling but yeah.

I was feeling antsy waiting for my family to arrive for the holidays so I churned out a combo of two of my favorite things, Kate Bishop and winter fashion.

My half of a collaboration with Basia for this year’s DeanCas Big Bang illustrating her fic, Dreameater. It was so much fun to work on this with her and I’m really pleased with the results!
